Welcome to Outdoors With Geoff! I'm all about great barbecue and great flavor. From low and slow to smoking, to grilling and searing, I cover it all in search of the best tasting items off the grill.
I utilize Char-Griller Grills for all of my cooks, but you can follow along on any cooker at home. Currently in the lineup, I have the Char-Griller Gravity Fed 980 and the Char-Griller Akorn for some Kamado style over the coal cooking. Take a load off, relax, check out a cook and get a recipe or two while you're at it!

Hi Geoff, great video! Pizza turned out great. Just curious… do you remember how you got your Akorn up to temp? How long did it take and how would you set your bottom and top dampers?
That looked amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Came back to say this is still the easiest and best method for ribs that I use! Hope all is well since you haven't uploaded a video in a while
Thank you, mine is on order, cant wait.
@@craigdickerson9706 thanks for watching!
Brother wtf?? 😂 so we eat raw meat like caveman now??
More like cooked to perfection bro! Cooked to 120° and seared to 133° internal. No other way for me. Thanks for watching. 👍🏾
Thank you for posting this! Really helps. Love the foil idea too!
Yesssirrrrrrr
I’m in the market to get a griddle. I like chargriller products and just bought another barrel charcoal grill. Is the Flat Iron working Great for yall and did yall try or had any other griddles?
This is the only griddle I’ve had but I love the size, storage beneath in the cabinet, and the lid for it so it checked all my boxes. I’d recommend it to anyone!
We back!!
Cool vid, love the background music too.
Thanks!
Are you making a comeback?
To long format. Yes. I started focusing on short form content for a while but I will be getting back to long form.
Oh yeah?? 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Looks delicious 😋
Great video. Thank you.
You are welcome!
I was about to buy a pizza cooker and found this video. I never thought about using my acorn to make pizza. Great video!!
You should! Thanks for watching!
LET’S START A FIRE 🔥 AND START COOKING SOME MEAT TOM modern day warrior mean mean stride TODAYS TOM SAWYER mean mean pride ❤️AND HUCKLEBERRY FINN STYLE 🤘. I watched this video for the first time 2 months ago and I have been pretty high since 😊 It is a good thing
Glad we could inspire you. It's really a great cook. I have a friend of mine who is trying it soon. I think he will use Teriyaki sauce instead of soy and I think it will turn out great. Appreciate the support 👍🏾
I'm glad to see someone on here use thick chops and actually season them. Great video thank you!
Thanks for watching! Yeah I can't do the thin chops. Only good for frying.
Beautiful smoke color on that meat... Great idea with the foil in the chute... I'm about to purchase the Masterbuilt 800, making the switch from my pellet smoker...
Hope you enjoy! It's a great cooker!
@@OutdoorsWithGeoff absolutely loving it so far, the ability to add actual wood chunks as far as smoke flavor goes, far surpasses an extra added smoker box in my old pellet smoker
Thanks for the video. Just put mine together. My only issue is one of the heat knobs on the far right pulls off easily and not tight like the others. I've tried switching knobs around, but it's the same problem.
I'd hit up CG for a replacement. They're us ally pretty quick. Thanks for watching!
Can the chargriller be converted to natural gas?
Unfortunately Chargriller does not have a kit out for this. However there are some aftermarket options online. I’m sure it will void any warranty on the unit though. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Is it possible to make this griddle am inbuilt system (get rid of the trolley and just have the griddle inbuilt with a table etc?) I am currently building an outdoor kitchen and want to implement this griddle with my benchtop
I think you could, but it would be some work. Also there isn't a heat shield underneath it cause it gaps into that open cabinet. Just a thought!
Nice job on those steaks.
Thank You!!
Great video! What is the width of this bbq without the shelves and when the shelves are down
The foil in the chute is genius. Thanks!
Do you still like your 980 grill??? I’m thinking of buying one???
I did like it but I sold my 980. I had it for roughly two years.I went through a few flap burn ups and while they're easy to fix, it's inconvenient if you have one go bad during a cook. I suggest ordering a couple from Chargrilled to keep on hand just in case. The other issue I had was an internal temp probe that went bad, but I replaced that. It's a good cooker, but not a forever grill. Thanks for watching and your support!
@@OutdoorsWithGeoff were you put wood chunks in the ash box??
How do you like the grill???? Thinking about getting one for myself!!!
Your making me hungry.
Those were some great pork steaks! Thanks for watching!
Great video man! Thank you!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for your support!
This video was amazing! Followed it step by step and the grill looks great!
Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy your griddle!
Another great job 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Geoff, I really enjoy your videos, very well presented, thanks for sharing😊
Glad you like them! I appreciate your support!
That looks soo good! Awesome video bro!
Thank you !
Nice job well done thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for your support!
Thank you! Awesome video!
Thanks for watching!
Finally 😂😂😂 Gracias Tio !!

Great video... quick question, when you are done with the cook and close the vents to snuff out thr fire. Assuming you didnt use up all the coal for the cook that day, those older coals sitting in the bottom of the hopper light ok the nexf day?.
Lump charcoal, they light up very easily. The older briquettes take a few minutes with the fire starter. You do have to shake the grate and get the ash off the coals that are in lower portion of the chute. I do 100 PERCENT with this grill or any of the new gravity units recommend that you only use the charcoal that you need for the cook. I always found that for a hot and fast steak, 1/3 of a chimney would do the job. Add as you need for longer cooks. It is possible to do. Thanks for watching.
@OutdoorsWithGeoff ok that helps. Yea bought a pitboss850Pro and thrn came across this MB900 (MB800 w/pizza)at Costco. The pitboss is still in the box so definitely leaning returning and buying MB900 as it does Auto Ctrl with Charcoal. And your video def helps here. How long does it take for the coals to smolder off typically when you close off all the vents/doors?
@@nikbadshah it will take some hours to smolder when you put the slides in but it will be cool enough within 90 minutes for you to put your cover on.
@OutdoorsWithGeoff oh really hey. That's a bit longer than i expected. Thanks for answering my questions.
WyTF is it so compilated???
I've worked in retail and we always had the same questions from folks who bought the big bags of dog food. In talking with those manufactures, what awe were told was to handle the stresses of shipping. It's sewn on to make the top and bottom of the bag the strongest points. However Kingsford just has that adhesive on theirs which is much easier and I never saw their bags busted open. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video man. I’m currently trying this cornstarch method on my flattop griddle. I was going to comment on your order of tasting but you confirmed it on the sweet chili tasting. I knew it haha
Thanks for watching! And how did it turn out on the griddle for you?
I just bought this grill as a first time smoker and have this video saved for this weekend when I try it out! Thank you!
Thanks for watching and I know you will enjoy the 560! Cheers!
Wait how many hrs do u leave the tri tip in the smoker for
It’s not really based on time. I was letting it smoke until I reached 120° internal, then I took it off to rest before I seared it. It wasn’t long. About 45 minutes smoking then a quick sear. Thanks for watching.
@@OutdoorsWithGeoff yeah totally I just bought my self a smoker just like u have and I’m learning from u guys how to smoke all kinds of meats n I definitely gonna copy u on that tri tip u made
Appreciate the time and effort that you invest into your videos. I’m torn between purchasing this grill or a pit boss. Question I have for you, have you encountered any issues with how the temp probe is set up? My understanding is that it can pinch the wire somewhat which has caused some errors and what not.
I haven’t had any issues with the probes at all. Have you?
Wow that looks so good😊
Thank you!
Chicago deep dish guy here: That pizza looked FANTASTIC!
Thanks for watching! I love deep dish myself!
Looking forword to trying this pizza the summer. It looks great and you do a good job explaining the process.
Thanks so much!
So you just wipe off the soapy water with a rag before seasoning? Thanks!
Exactly! Just to clean off any dirt or old oil from shipping to start the process fresh. Thanks for watching!
Hey Geoff I just tried this method but I have a propane grill instead it’s only a 2 burner propane grill. I still had quite a bit of flaky cornstarch on my wings. Any thoughts to why that is?
Hello @easimpson ! It may just be that you have to let the wings cook longer. It’s a sure fire way to get some crispy wings with a smoke flavor. But when it is cooking, you will hear a sound almost similar, but quieter than, the sound of chicken frying in a pan in oil. Thanks for watching!
Witch grill do you think is better the chargriller or pit boss
That would be hard for me to say as I don’t own a Pit Boss, but I do like some of their products and I also like the Gravity Fed Unit from Chargriller. Thanks for watching!!
Hey Geoff! Did you hear that a new player has joined the charcoal gravity-fed grill/smoker game recently? The new Oklahoma Joe’s Tahoma was just released and it looks like it just might give the Masterbuilt and Char-Griller Gravity 980 a run for their money. If you buy one, I’d love to see how it performs and get your thoughts on it. Thanks!
I’ve seen that! I saw a couple of videos on it and I’m going to head out to see one soon. I like what I’ve seen from the design so far. If I come across one in the store, I’ll reply back with my thoughts. Thanks for watching @coreym3675 !
@@OutdoorsWithGeoff sounds good, man! Day to day, which grill/smoker would you say you use the most? The Akorn, Gravity 980, your Masterbuilt, or something else?
Hey Geoff! Have you smoked a brisket on the Char-Griller Gravity 980 yet? If so, do you cook yours fat cap up or down? Thanks!
Fat Cap up seems to work better for me on the 980! Thanks for watching!
Gm, do you still feel you same we after 2 years or is your view still the same? I plan on getting one this week. Please let me know!
It’s a great smoker. I will tell you that you also may want to check out the Tahoma from Oklahoma Joe’s. It’s the newest gravity unit on the market. Thanks for watching!
