    you do have to factor in the tide and wind as you would use less fuel when running with the tide and more fuel if your pushing against the tide stronger the tide more push needed etc also if the weight load on the boat is more ,then that will effect your fuel consumption . someone here said put a 50hp on the boat however these boats are not rated for that size engine . a mate of mine had a 30hp on his strikeliner and ok yes it do go a little faster but always with the bow well up and out of the water , it looked very unstable tbh.

    She is very underpowered which will be giving you bad fuel mileage. If you can't get on the plain then you will use 3 times less fuel. I'd say at least a 50hp for that boat.

    Well that's shocked me as I had the distance at 33/34 ml, reason why i got to this figure is I have a fast liner 19 with a Honda 50 on it and that will do 55mls on a 22ltr tank and that's running at 20-24 knott,s so that works out at 2,5mls per ltr and TBH I thought yours would be a bit better,,

    Sounds like you’ve got enough power to get on the plane, whereas I’m always limited to semi-displacement - only halfway onto the plane. It’s definitely a lot faster and cheaper if more of the boat is out the water!!

    Hi, did you replace the keel band? If not did you have to buy a new bow D ring for the winch strap?

  • @mattryland949
    @mattryland949 Жыл бұрын

    I didn’t install a new keel band. I prefer a boat with less holes in! And have no need to rest on the bottom. I reinstalled the original D for the winch after cleaning it up a bit. I used Sikaflex as well as the original bolts with washers. The outside washer is a long one that incorporates both holes.

    Look like you need to trim the outboard up. Is the new prop getting the outboard rev. in the recommended range at WOT?

  • @mattryland949
    @mattryland949 Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your comment/advice. Yes, it’s now nicely in the recommended range at WOT. Just under 6000rpm. I’ve played around with tilt and trim to find a better top speed and that ‘midpoint on the gauge’ position is the best position when there is just me onboard. The best way I’ve found to increase the speed is to have more weight distributed further forward. Also I appreciate that it’s a semi displacement hull on this so never going to be a speed boat!

    I bought it mainly because I wanted a depth gauge and to know my speed over ground and it’s good for those things. I bought the detailed maps as an extra so is a good navigation aid too. Haven’t used the fishfinder yet though. Fishing will be on the cards next year. I find it nice and simple to use even though it’s not touchscreen. And I found the 7 is the perfect size for my dashboard and plenty big enough to see the detail and use easily.

  • @mattryland949
    @mattryland949 Жыл бұрын

    Hi Dermot, I’ve left it without a keel band as I don’t need one with the way I use the boat. As far as I know they are designed for when you let the boat sit on the bottom when the tide goes out. A keel band will certainly stop the gel coat getting abraded by whatever’s on the sea floor. I do prefer having less holes in the bottom of the boat now. The old keel band was mild steel and had separated from the hull in places and water was definitely getting in the hull through the screw holes.

    Hi, The boat came with an 11 x 9 prop but I could only get about 4800rpm at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and a top speed of 12 knots with just me on board. I swapped it for a slightly larger diameter 9.8 x 9 prop. So that’s 0.8 inches extra diameter but 2 inches less pitch. Now I get 5800-5900 rpm at WOT and that’s nicely within the 5000-6000rpm range the outboard manual says you need. The highest speed I’ve had is 15-16 Knots with just me on board. The 25hp is a 3 cylinder so will produce more torque than a 2 cylinder 20hp so I’d say yours might need a slightly smaller diameter prop than mine. You could try a 9 x 9 perhaps. Getting the outboard into the correct rev range is most important as the top speed varies so much depending on weight, weight distribution, wind and tide. With 4 people on board I only get 6 knots and yesterday I went out on my own and only got 14 knots as there was a bit of wind. I generally cruise around at 4000rpm which gives me about 8 knots on my own or 6 knots with 4 people on board. Hope this helps, Matt

    This could be the subject for a future video! I paid £4500 for the boat, outboard and trailer as you initially see it in the video. Plus £200 to insure it all. The boat is from 1990, the outboard is 2009 and the trailer is 2018. Personally, for a modern 4 stroke outboard in excellent condition I’m willing to pay £100 per horsepower. And I reckon the trailer is worth about £1000. Hope this helps.

    For the summer season at the boatyard - 1st April until 31st October - I paid £768. And that includes a full year Poole Harbour dues and unlimited use of the slipway. The boat’s kept on a trailer on the hard and I launch and retrieve it each time I use it. The fees also include use of the large bins and oil disposal point for waste disposal which can be quite handy and use of the toilet block and showers too. Winter season was about £400 and something, I forget the exact amount.

    Hi, I would recommend the Suzuki 20hp - it was a good outboard in my opinion. Back when it was new in 2013 it was the only electronic fuel injection 4 stroke at 20hp so was the best you could buy. But now most of the manufacturers are making EFI outboards at 20hp too so isn’t necessarily still the best available!

  • @mattryland949
    @mattryland9492 жыл бұрын

    Hi Daniel, Thanks for watching the video! I initially thought the same as you with it being air cooled but before doing this video I read the instruction manual in minute detail in order to avoid giving out misleading info. I found on page 54 that it clearly says to run the motor in a bucket with water 6 inches above the anti ventilation plate. And then there is a notice that states: “Running the engine without water can cause overheating and damage.” The first outboard I owned several years ago was a short shaft one of these and to be honest I didn’t run that one in water and never had a problem!

  • @danielhaglund244
    @danielhaglund2442 жыл бұрын

    @@mattryland949 Well, obviously the manual isn't incorrect but it doesn't allow for common sense. I realize that the bucket will provide cooling for the lower unit and resistance for the propeller, but that can't be a problem when running at lower rpm for a short time.

  • @mattryland949
    @mattryland9492 жыл бұрын

    Hi Steve, I’ve enquired about the window seals and Orkney can supply them. The rubber they use now is slightly different though so won’t match exactly. The seals would need to be changed in a warm environment so they bend easily. Could be impossible to do when cold. For now, I’ve used a bathroom sealant I had in the cupboard to fill the gaps where the seals had shrunk in length over time or because they weren’t cut long enough originally. This has kept the cuddy area dry so far.
