  Aside from what this scene is obviously portraying (getting distracted and wandering onto other paths, losing focus, dangers of hoarding, realising what's truly important, etc.), when I was younger, I always thought the "Junk Lady" spoke to Sarah in an almost maternal way, as a mother might speak to a very young child... I'm probably way off here, but could she have been an allusion to Sarah's (absent? dead?) mother in some way? Like, the selfish, worthless treasures of her childhood before Toby arrived were ones she was clinging to simply because Sarah missed her mother?

  loved this movie! Bowie had a very nice package indeed! 😀 when I saw this movie in my teens.I used to fantasize that he had captured my baby brother, and I would go to rescue him, and just able to stare at Gareth's crotch for hours. 😛
