    I see they also offer heads only (I've got R89 rosegold first and R41 head after couple years) but in quality and price-value ratio def. my #1 razor brand. I can only imagine how the slant could turn out to be ☺️ Luckily I have entire range now to cut waiting, R89, R41 and R94 supplied for lifetime

    I'm surprised the blade remained in place given it has a major design defect, I.e. No blade support posts. Whilst shaving, within a couple of strokes, the blade gets pushed inside the head by my stubble. Pearl are apparently working on a fix.

  • @Wicked-Whiskers

    I had couple comments on this, even shaked my razor on first video without cap and magnet held it. Could it be true, I don't know, reports are there, so if there's place for improvement - I'm all in. I just didn't saw any video on it besides one guy who pushed the blade with fingernail 😁 In my feel, even the top-bottom force is just fine to hold the blade regardless of magnet. Dang... would be such a shame for such great little razor if they really have inconsistency in manufacturing ☹️

    Just tried my Pearl SE razor for the first time today. Other than figuring out how to load the blade and tighten the handle without it moving the blade, once it was aligned and locked down, the shave was similar to how @wicked-whiskers mentioned. Kind of felt too familiar (kind f like disposables- not in a bad way, just intuitive) and I shaved too quickly. Not super efficient, but not bad either. Had more audible feedback than I expected cutting the whiskers. I was not sure if this was designed to ride the cap or ride the bar. I tried both ways but it seemed to work equally. I also felt it worked better ATG than the initial WTG pass. For the price I would recommend this. Compared to the Parker SE, it's too early to say, but my initial thoughts are I prefer the Parker. Compared to the Twig/Thorn, I feel the Parker and Pearl seem more familiar like traditional razors. I love my Twig and Thorn razors, but they do seem different and not in a bad way. BTW, I used a split Personna Lab Blues blade that I've used over 10 times rotating it between all the previously mentioned razors before I used it in this Pearl SE. I'd rate this a 7.5 out of 10

  • @Wicked-Whiskers
    @Wicked-WhiskersАй бұрын

    Fair review 🤗 I liked the Leaf's fig purple colour, so nice, but I never considered SE razor as I disliked cartridge razors in past. I do think that loading could be more intuitive, as it actually locks surprisingly well, no blade chatter, but "helping finger" could ruin so much, it def. locks much better on its own. I kinda ride the top cap, seems much efficient, riding bottom part makes handle too close to my skin making it less comfortable to hold. I don't know... if it's below 20$ and one likes that cushioned feel of cartridge razor I'd say it's more than a fine razor. Thanks for sharing your experience it's certainly most valuable 👍

  • @ivanmuniz3288
    @ivanmuniz3288Ай бұрын

    It seems Pearl tried to take the Parker concept of semi slant to the limit... :D The Parker has grooves on the comb and cap that makes it performs as a "semi open comb" (somewhat similar to the Fatip Gentile line), and so it's safe to use, but pretty efficient and close, like the Fatip Gentile Slant. I'd say Pearl has gone too far on the mild side for a slant... :-)

  • @Wicked-Whiskers
    @Wicked-WhiskersАй бұрын

    Yeah, I agree for the mildness, maybe bit unnecessary. Parker by looks seems as slanted in traditional way, but I haven't tried that, for me FOCS does all the work. For Pearl, I could argue the idea all day long, but even today, I see no skin issues, so it really plays with my emotions - great shaver but at what weird concept 😁🤔

    Thanks for the fast follow up video 👍 As suspected a razor with a hard to find use case. They should have called it the Parker (Semi) Tilt. If you are looking for a mild slant: Merkur 37c or GFS Legione are a better choice imho. I don't have enormous beard growth and usually shave every other day. Merkur 37c gives me no problem as i would expect for daily use on faster growth. The Fatip OC Slant is a level up but sometimes the tolerances drive me crazy when trying to allign the blade. I just can't do your method on the Fatip and say this is so bend/skewed anyway leave the blade as is in the Fatip 😅 What product is coming next?

    Tilted* I just gotta steal that word from you 😁 Well, I just do this as a hobby, mostly if I find something worth sharing, solid advice etc. Still have to check couple gifts from Pearl and then we'll see. Definitely it needs design improvement to hold the blades while locking the blades. The knurling must be horizontal also it must be included at bottom for tightening the blades. The failed to complete with parker and leaf twig or Thor.

  • @Wicked-Whiskers
    @Wicked-WhiskersАй бұрын

    Well, I would agree with maybe stronger magnets. Still, once tightened the blade is locked (for me) in ideal way. Some razors with bullet pins have same wiggling so I don't take that as big issue. For knurling... depends, in terms of weight balance I find it just at right spot, but I guess it was more for visual design. Who knows, maybe there'll be an upgrade of this razor 🤔

    Curious to know how it shaves compared to the Twig. You are right about the look and feel to the disposable Gillette Blue. Its great for a quick shave because I am so familiar with the disposables. BTW, its weird that I get more shaves out of SE razors in total.

  • @Wicked-Whiskers
    @Wicked-WhiskersАй бұрын

    I don't know, tbh 😁 No, really, I could see it as a travel razor as it is more compact for storing. Does require 2x rinsing, half-blades are bit husstle, but for people who like "BIC"s i.e. this could be cheaper, more quality option. I guess. Feel is as with disposable razors (head footprint) but DE blade does cut much better. This one has pretty nice blade hold and cutting angle so I'm really ok with results, although feel of SE razor is bit different

    Great long-term review! I really appreciate the progress and insights. Geofatboy recently released a video explaining that the Merkur Progress safety razor, set to level 5, offers a shave comparable to the aggressive Merkur R41, while at level 3, it provides a milder shave similar to the Merkur 34C. This highlights the impressive range and versatility of the Merkur Progress, especially useful for those who don't own these razors and want to understand their performance.

  • @Wicked-Whiskers
    @Wicked-WhiskersАй бұрын

    Well, by design R41 and Progress are so different that only end result can be comparable 😁 shave angles, blade feel, head footprint, totaly "apples vs oranges" but, as said - for a razor that wasn't love at 1st sight I tend to use it quite frequently and that mean something. Of course, for me #4 is ideal, #5 not much gain but likely to catch loose skin, #1-#3 borderline efficient, almost as waste of time. Who knows, maybe I change mind until next recap 😊🤞

  • @RafaelHupfeld
    @RafaelHupfeldАй бұрын

    I also like that I can change the blade quicker than on a three-piece razor. The only downfall for me is that I should have taken the longer version. Really interesting video, thank you! I often do one-pass shaves. Usually, I use canned shaving foam for that if it’s just one day of growth. Maybe I should consider an open comb slant razor for that.

    Well, having one off-camera shave in meanwhile, I'd say it's solid reasoning. When you know that tomorrow all stray whiskers would be cut again, there's no point on pushing N-pass shave daily. Maybe as a weekend treat, but for daily "quickies" I'd always use anything that works well in straight-down pass (OC, SB, Slant... no matter) Thanks for watching 🍺🇩🇪
