I've stayed away from the mail shredding since the colors and bleach are probably carcinogens and I'm hesitant to put that in the ground with my veggies. Also CHEST FREEZERS ARE AMAZING AND GREAT FOR POWER OUTAGES

Hey Shaq, I would really love it if you helped us hone those cooking talents. Maybe a video dedicated to recipes to cement some of those good kitchen skills and another on base recipes that really provide something great to rely on time and time again.

I don't need "poultry" sheers, but I do need a good pair of kitchen sheers that don't struggle to cleanly cut other food. Weird choice to name something for a specific use when it's just a better version of a more general tool.

It's the shape that's specific. The angled head keeps your hand up over the bird while the blades cut straight up the back, and the curved blades keep them from sliding backwards on bones.

As someone who doesn’t bake a lot, bread knifes are essential for whenever I make a cake on someone’s birthday, if not due to the blade shape, due to the fact that you can buy a relatively cheap one and it can be long enough to slice a 9 in cake into two rounds if you buy it right. Then don’t use it for anything else or get a pull through sharpener and it’s always sharp when I need it. Also, I’ve found that even sharp non-bread knifes will destroy soft bread texture. You may not need a bread knife, but if you’re buying more than just a basic or budget load out, it’s good to have imo

The berbere, like most spice blends, seems iffy to me. I have, or have had almost all of the ingredients separately. Even the grains of paradise (mild black pepper) and ajwain (bright, woody & vegetal, slightly bitter). Rue is an exception, but apparently it can cause gastric distress and should be used sparingly. Think I'll pass. Kosseret is the other, and it seems to be similar to rosemary, mint, and maybe mexican oregano. I have those too.

Hey sir. What food processor would you recommend? I had inherited an old vintage Cuisinart from the 80s. It was very powerful yet quiet as a mouse, I loved using it. Unfortunately, I broke the main blade and found it impossible to find a replacement. I bought a new processor, but found the noise of the modern machine to be absolutely unbearable, and it completely turned me off to using it at all. Please tell me I just made a poor choice of product, and that a better selection will set me on the right path!

I’ll be honest, I’m no longer on team bread knife… I’ve recently had to refurnish my kitchen from scratch, so I’ve got new, extremely sharp knives. And both my chef’s knife and utility knife have done great work against tough crusty breads. Maybe my tune will change once I get lax on keeping my blades sharp, we’ll see!

  • @blairhoughton7918

Bread knife take: They don't need to be sharpened. Bread doesn't dull knives the way banging a chef's knife into a maple board or scraping a boner along chicken femur does. And if you don't keep your chef's knife hair-whittling sharp, it will not cut bread as well as even an old bread knife will.

1:51 funny you say this because my Bosch immersion blender that just so happens to have a whisk icon on it- does NOT have a compatible whisk attachment… I contacted their customer support directly and apparently they don’t make them for that model ??? never buy an ergomixx you will only be disappointed (and end up spending 5 minutes whipping ((blending)) cream instead of 30 seconds)

Do the worms break down plastic? Most mailer postcards you get (like the ones you showed) are coated in a thin plastic layer. It would be interesting to get your compost soil tested and see what's in it.

Where do you keep your chest freezer? I remember when I lived in Phoenix, I had stores tell me that they would not honor the warranty if I kept it in the garage (like I had in other states). I guess I don't blame them.

I adore using a big laundry basket that's like 1 meter tall or so as my go to basket for throwing plastic trash away. One thing that's inevitable from happening in the kitchen ( or outside the kitchen) is producing plastic trash. Every day there's tons of products using plastic and it piles up quicker than people care about. It all seems small but it piles up quick. With a big enough basket I can put in a large plastic sack and have a better overview over how much I throw away. Its also easier to sort my trash based on the containers my food came with. Rinse, fold and play a little every day life tetris game to stack my trash up properly to reduce my trash taking too much space and the day before the garbage collectors are coming, its one quick grap and knot away from being collected. Its a mundane little thing but I prefer that over the tiny buckets most people hide under the sink. It did end up being far more convenient than other standard methods of house hold garbage disposels and if you live alone, or with several people , you can conveniently place that anywhere in the home and it don't stand out like a sore thumb. Cheap , light and aesthetically pleasing to your home styles.

A scalloped bread knife is the best alrounder to have. Its great for bread but also for vegetables like tomatoes or peppers since it makes the sharpeness of you chefs knife live that much longer. I dont have one now but i had one at work and it was one of my most used tools.

I am so in for a guide to the perfect freezer loadout. As an aside, are ice cube molds still the best way to freeze things in single portion sizes? I’m stuck in the no man’s land between my ice cubes of bolognese sauce picking up lots of freezer flavor because of the increased surface area, and defrosting a whole quart of sauce when I’m making 2AM drunchies for one.

I have to respectfully disagree with the serrated bread knife. Bread knives are cheap, the tojiro bread slicer is $30 and works great. It is cheap enough that even if it eventually manage to dull it after tens of thousands of uses (assuming you don't use it to cut root veggies), you will have more than got your money's worth. The point of a bread knife is that it cuts without applying downwards pressure, which flattens a loaf, crushes the delicate gluten bubbles, and makes your sandwiches poorly formed. Or you can use it for slicing tomatoes, since it won't crush them and the sharp blades can easily break the skin. And slicing bread as you use it is much better than pre-sliced, since it prevents the good tasting and smelling volatile fermentation alchohols from evaporating out of your bread and leaving you with a strangly bland loaf. And from the ease of making gourmet sandwiches on fancy bread for lunches, it made the money back in a month, and I've had it for a decade.

I reckon you already know of this spice mix since you know Berbere but I personally LOVE the exact same oven roasted Broccoli with Ras el hanout! Looking at the ingredient list it's pretty similar, but it's absolutely brilliant! Mix it with some sour cream or joghurt and lemon juice and now you also have a fresh dipping sauce for the aforementioned Broccoli tossed in the stuff that brings a whole different level of complexity and earthyness.
