TL;DR: Your original chickpea video got me a girlfriend. I really enjoyed the original chickpea video recipe and took it to heart, so I always had a can of chickpeas in my pantry area, even when I was living in the dorms at university last year and was cooking in the lounge kitchen. One night right after moving in, I had no ingredients and it had gotten late so the dining hall was closed. Me and my roommate were hungry so I busted out the chickpeas and spices that I always kept on me. We ended up running into some girls while looking around for a lounge and we started chatting with them. We became friends and started hanging out, and one day I met a mutual friend of one of those girls, and we hit it off. We have now been dating for over a year since and I still credit "Why I always have a can of chickpeas" for this romance. Thanks Net Shaq! Maybe this latest video will get me a free car!

The sentiment that a home cook's level is determined not by their highest effort dish but by the rise in quality of their lowest effort dishes is so perfect. I've for a long time been able to execute "impressive" meals because I can follow recipes but the biggest boost in confidence as a home cook I've experienced comes from improving the basics of seasoning , being happier with what I can throw together at the last minute

“I think with time, every home cook eventually realizes that your true mastery is measured not just by the success of your highest effort, most elaborate project meals, but also by the gradual raising of what’s barely acceptable: the gourmet grilled cheese that you can still make while intoxicated; the ultra-flexible stir-fry that was born out of fridge clean-up day; or even the pellet-shaped protein in a can that, if it weren’t for the world of alternatives, you could reasonably eat every day.” I never really figured out how to describe my cooking ambitions to others... but thankfully you have summed it up to a tee with this profound quote about dog food. thank u, my friend

Since ur old video on the versatility of chickpeas, I’ve been making a chickpea burrito probably 3-4 times a week for the past two and a half years during the school year. My roommates were getting worried about me because I was eating it so much. It’s the easiest and best tasting meal I’ve came across for around 2 dollars total. I don’t even used a spatula anymore, I just shake the pan to stir them and drop them on to a tortilla when they’re done. Less dishes that way. Long live the chickpea. Thank you

Real talk, the original chickpea video saved me this past semester of college. I could make a quality meal quickly, easily, and cheaply. I bought a can of chickpeas like two years ago for a recipe I never made and finally cooked them tonight. I knew hummus was mostly chickpea, but I didn't realize I'd enjoy them this much. I even tried one straight out of the can and it was tasty! I went the barbeque wrap route with caramalized onions, mushrooms, and bell pepper. I also sliced up a chicken breast as back up, but it wasn't needed at all. No prep time at all and I had a tasty filling meal! Man, I wish I knew how to cook back in college!

The original chickpea video was a game-changer for me and led to the creation of a franken-salad containing roasted chickpeas, a can of tuna, salad, sweetcorn and some salty cheese. It's a beast of a meal that really keeps ppl satiated and I have you to thank for it.

Chickpea wraps are in my weekly rotation now. Crispy chickpeas with cumin and garlic or garam masala, stuffed in a homemade flatbread (usually yogurt-based after your yogurt video) with lettuce, onion, and whatever other pickles and olives I have available. It does need a sauce for moisture though - usually a yogurt sauce, but tahini if I have it.

The 'Made In' cookware - it's made without PFOA, and they don't specify what kind of non-stick it is (only that it's 'safe') so I'm willing to bet it contains PFAS (PFOA is just one fluorated chemical) but they want customers to think it doesn't. Highly dubious and very misleading marketing for them to say it's PFOA free.

I discovered your channel yesterday and felt in love with it immediately. I love your approach to home cooking, the acknowledgement that it's all about making mundane, day-to-day meals taste better, be more healthy and easier to make. Sure, I can spend 3 hour cooking some gourmet shit, but I only do that on very special occasions. But I have 4 meals a day to eat every day, so I'd rather be good at cooking them. Also, just the general message of the channel which is "love what you love" is so relatable. Your videos on coffee and wine made feel so liberated and open to the experiments in the kitchen.

My hubby knows I love crisps/potato chips, and am trying to break my addiction and so I have substituted crunchy chickpeas. Usually 45 mins in the oven. I had not thought of crisping them in the microwave! But i will be giving the, a go this evening! I agree having tins of chickpeas on hand for quick and easy meals is essential. Ranging from a curry (my hubby’s favourite way to eat them, to adding to salads with some other seasoning on them while crisping them up by way of a crouton substitute, or mashing them up a bit to make a mock tuna filling with egg free mayo, chopped onion, pickles or whatever one used to put in their tuna, and you have a quick, high protein, animal free lunch ready to go, to using in soups, stews, grain salads, ground up and seasoned before coating in breadcrumbs to make mock chicken nuggets, and so much more. The possibilities with those amazing little beams are endless! And just a few changes on what herbs and spices added to them changes the whole flavour profile giving you yet more options and taste sensations. They are so versatile and yeah, even making a huge array of hummuses…my current favourite is avocado hummus, spread on toast with some vegan bacon mayo and slices of tomato, cucumber and some lettuce leaves or shredded raw cabbage for a great sandwich. Although I am keen on chocolate hummus for dipping fruit in too. We use them so much that I buy them by the case as well as having dried chickpeas on hand for when I have time to cook them up in the instapot.

Here are a couple of great chickpea recipes from a cook viewer from France. These are classics from my family's recipe list or staples that saved my life as a starving college student (who also happened to be a vegetarian so the added nutritional value was a must). So here are my recipes for cooking pois-chiches! (I love their French name, sue me) Salade de pois-chiches: -1 can of cheakpea per 2 people you need to feed -1 soup spoon of olive oil per person you need to feed (or use any neutral oil if you don't like the taste of olive oil, I suggest colza or sunflower) -a couple pinches of large salt (I'm sorry I don't know if this has a proper name in English, it's salt but in large chunks, maybe google "gros sel" which is the French name and look at pictures to see if you recognise it from your stores. It's not the same as flaky salt) -freshly ground pepper -cumin powder -red or white onions, depending on how spicy you like your food • rince the chickpeas thoroughly in a strainer and dry them in a kitchen towel • in a ceramic bowl (trust me, it adds to the fanciness of a very cheap meal), add your chickpeas and put your salt, oil, pepper and cumin and mix well to marinate a little • chop your onions extremely fine, maybe even diced? your choice, but you have to barely taste them. if they're too spicy for you cause they're fresh, rince them under cold water after chopping • add to the dish, mix some more • ideally, let marinate like an hour or two and serve pretty cold. but eating straight out of the bowl when in a hurry is an acceptable play Galettes de pois-chiches -1 can of chickpea per 5 galettes you want to make (2 will feed a child, 3 an adult, 4-5 a starving college studen) -1 can of red beans (optional) -a glass full of oats (optional) -1 egg (only if you add the red beans and oats) -1-2 soup spoons of any oil of your choice (including tasty ones like sesame) per can of chickpea -salt and pepper and any spices you like. personally, I add the kebab mix they sell in France or for a different flavour, some paprika, chili powder, cumin and ras-el-hanout • in a bowl, crush your chickpeas (and red beans if you added them) until they form a rough paste • add your oil + egg until you get a smooth paste that can be formed into balls. use the oatmeal to add crunchyness, nutritional value or to save a dough that was too moist (if desperate, add some chickpea flour or any other flour if you're completely desperate) • add your spices • form into round and flat shapes, about half a knuckle thick (or 0.5cm if you understand the measurement, but it's not an exact science. you just want it to be flat enough that the egg will cook through and not make you sick, but thick enough that you can bite into it like you would a thin burger patty. this is not a tortilla, it's a galette) • cook on a hot pan with some oil until both sides are well coloured and smell nice and if in doubt, split in two to make sure the egg is cooked (but you should be fine just waiting for the sides to be brown) • eat alone, or with a salad, or with a sauce/chili con carne, cold or hot (though always better hot) • they're super useful to pack to lunch for class or for work or for your kids, incredibly cheap, so nutritious they're usually enough to fill you up wiwthout eating anything else, and if you nail the spices, they taste incredible and are so comforting and satisfying to eat. Enjoy! Love from France.

I resonate with the home cook talk at the end so much. I simply don’t have the time or will to make elaborate dishes anymore; I even find ways to cut corners at dinner parties. My average cook time has come down from 90 minutes to just 30 min but i would say the quality of food and flavor has largely stayed the same.

We've got our SHAQ chickpea magnet in a conspicuous spot on the fridge. Sometimes I find myself giving it a little nod when I'm reaching for produce. Tonight I think we'll do something with crunchy 'banzos, thanks Netshaq.

There is no other KZreadr where I regularly pick up tips that I use from then on. My running total: Canned chickpea meals, bourbon marinades, jaimaica tea (life changing), pasta primavera, shrimp shells for stock, pink gloves for dish washing, owning a fire extinguisher. And these are just the things I use at least monthly (fire extinguishers exempted)

I have definitely served my cat his crunchy cat food out of the same type of bowl I served myself crunchy chickpeas. Kibble is an apt comparison. Thank you for passing along your wisdom and passion for this humble bean. Strongly seasoned beans + rice + leafy green = my favorite low effort meal.
