They do make an adapter for oval stove pipe to round pipe. You can shape round pipe to fit this stove also. I've only burned wood in mine. Would like to try coal but does anyone know how thick cast iron should be ?

Coal burning stoves also burn wood. Wood burning stoves can not burn coal. Before the butane torch they started all coal stoves with wood by adding coal as the wood burned down open the ash bin door wide open until coal is well lit then dump more coal in filling the coal pot to its brim close ash door open air ports for another 20 30 minutes then close air vents and damper the flue to 90% closed and you won’t have to touch it for at least 6 hours for a coal shake down and use poker to pic grate clean and clear in between. Should get another 8 hours at least from that one cycle till refilling again.

if you cut the entire lid off a sterno instead of just removing lid, complete game changer

Choose a nice day, with no worries or any top of Rush and use what they call stove blackening it's basically like gun blueing but a lot more of a mess if not careful. But again outside, some patience and fair expectations it'll turn out great hit up that hardware store or the nylon rope looking gasket that comes with glue that never works I find it heat treated RTV or something of choice and do quality job because it determines whether the heater Burns wood 2 fast or even well at all. Air flow in the draft or the draw of air is the key to a piece of metal with fire inside! Sorry for the length of comment. Hopefully any helpful intentions were found. My Gpa scolded me when I was a little boy, as I had no business messing with the heater, "You don't ever let nobody mess with you heater!" said "why - Papa,* he said "you'll go cold son" Meaning: if u put the material in the fire. Then, I (or u) know or have an idea of the time frame and also the amount of "Stoke" of how hotter one type of wood is from another. I usually cut up smaller limbs and makes a hockey puck shape chunk of wood they can easily be handled, judged and sufficiently gained from. God bless

Definitely a keeper! DO NOT ever get rid of that stove. It's been a blessing for many times in ur family. Making it even more priceless. I'd lightly blast it just enough to get crust off. Older hardware store is where I score item for wood heaters. Also, more than fair in trade usually.. There is 2 size of smoke pipe.6 &8 inch. They looks like a 6"". Turn pipe where Sean is in middle in front or towards rear of heater. Alowws lightly squeeze and with lil patience should be able to wiggle it down and around outside of the lip. Normally without any mods. Just support depending on ur route and extension. I felt so dumb when I was a witness to my rookie ignorance.. I find the very bottom of the stove where a square shaped peice of metal makes up for ash pan. Are not as thick as I prefer. The legs and each section being bottom square shaped is usually bolted together using ear's" or tabs originally having a flat beaded bolt & a square but often recessed in the mold and a bit more of a good seal,/ bond and amazing structure strength. Once more at the top of the round middle belly section and then the flat top is the same design but usually difficult due to the heat and on the bolts and they tend to break. Helpful tip later on and held together this long!

If you get the right size round pipe it will squeeze to fit that oval. It should be the size for the damper.

It's a reproduction potbelly for wood the Coal one's were thicker cast and had a 3 or 4 inch stove pipe that came out the back of the stove not the top.

Not a wood stove at all but strictly coal. Probably nut coal. It would not be even remotely efficient as a wood stove because of its size and design.

Sterno is horrible fuel. I have one of these stoves and used it once. I was so put off by the rediculous boil time, that I ran out and bought a MSR Pocket Rocket. The folding stove is in its box and I carry it in a pannier as a kick-stand base for bicycle touring when on soft ground. I am buying a Trangia alcohol burner for fun and may use this folding stove as a pot base if the Trangia fits.

Lorne Smith I use my military Trangia burner in all my sterno stoves. Fits in can holder perfect. I do like newer sterno grill top stove, the older flower top seems to steal the heat from flame.
