Water storage container failure

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here is a reason why it is important to routinely inspect your supplies which you are storing. This was a lid failure in one of my several aqua-tainers.

@GaryMule..Right, they are not meant for stacking. Each weighs about 50lbs(7gal) and I do not stack. Right now its just a space issue, so I use these containers tucked in dead corners, etc around the house. I am trying to purchase some rural property with a well so have not been overly concerned with the 55gal drums just yet. Maybe in the future. Current home I set up three 60gal rain barrels but plan a much more extensive system in the new place which will serve for laundry, toilets, etc.

Great piece of advice, as I have quite a few of those 5 gallon Aqua-tainers! Thankfully, none of mine are leaking as of now, but I will make sure to keep things off of them. I've heard that they can't take a lot of weight on top of them.

Same thing happened to mine that I bought a few years ago. And it had nothing to do with weight. Just screwing the spigot into the container will crack the old ones.

Sometimes if you call the company they will replace things like that spicket for free. When working after hurricanes we had lots of those containers for water and I got a few replace a few years ago. Idk if they still do that or not though. Couldn't hurt to ask.

@SultanOfShinola Sad thing is I did not have much weight on them, just maybe 5 lbs. It was not leaking out on the floor luckily. It was only when I turned it on its side did I detect the leak and investigated, had I not touched it I would never have known.

It looks like the spigot was overtightened in the lid. I am 99.9% sure that weight was not a problem. There is not any direct weight on the lid when stacked. Great heads up though, made me check mine as well.
