Thank you, Adam! How gloomy were these Victorian houses! The dark and ugly wallpaper did not help either. The embossed wallpaper in the dining room is awful! 🤮(LOL) The Great Hall is nice and bright (pity the wallpaper...😁) The chapel is nice and the cross at 20.47 is gorgeous. Regards!
Oh yes, I love the little chapel in this place. And yes, this place was particularly dark due to them closing too many curtains etc. Some beautiful features around the house and estate though. Thanks again, Adam :)

I discovered this building nearly 30 years ago when I bought a book about 19th-century British architecture and I always wanted to visit it; something that now, THANKS TO YOU, I have done. The builder, Mr. Gregory Gregory, was a bit of a maniac obsessed with building a huge house more for show than for living. No wonder his successors did not like living there. When the last descendant of Gregory Gregory, Philip John Sherwin Pearson-Gregory, inherited the house in 1935, he sold the contents of the house at auction (the sale took 3 days!) and put it up for sale immediately. Quite a house! I have a question. You show a column rising up from the floor. I guess. Looks like a vaulted ceiling i think. what is it?
Yes, I believe that was part of those winding staircases. It was the central pillar that eventually reached up to the roof. The stairs wrap around the lower portion of the column. Very beautiful I thought. Thanks, Adam :)
Very nice video, thank you! One thing that these mansions of 19th-century billionaires have in common is the vulgar and tasteless display of wealth in the form of rooms crammed with furniture, statues and paintings. The message is: "LOOK HOW RICH I AM!" Don´t get me wrong, most of the pieces are wonderful, but filling rooms with them turns the house into a warehouse or a huge antique shop. The only place that is a beautiful exception to the rule is the former residence of Henry Clay Frick in NY, now the home of the famous Frick Collection. Thank you for this beautiful tour!
You're very welcome! Yes, I totally get what you're saying. It can get a bit much when they're totally stuffed with stuff. Sometimes less is more. I prefer it when each room has maybe one standout piece that you can focus your attention on. However, this place was pretty much just built for displaying his arts and other pieces and for partying, so i kind of understand how it ended up like this. I do love that little Rotunda that has bits of gold and mother of pearl with little crystal pillars. Definitely a place worth having a look at. Thanks again, Adam :)

Looks terrifying like a horror film
What an absolutely smashing location for an international three-day-event this would be. It could bring in oodles of pounds which could go towards maintaining the old pile and the publicity would generate worldwide interest in it as a tourist venue.

terrible Christmas decorations. Clearly a major failure of who ever is in charge.
The house is only open a few days of the year because the students are in residence most of the year. There is a yearly summer school which people attend for a couple of weeks a year. The building hosts events as well. It's all worked in around the school year calendar.
Used to love being able to walk around the grounds on my time off.
Just in front of the car park at the back of the school. Is 2 trees which were planted by King George V and Queen Mary. There there saplings when planted. They are huge trees now.

The gardeners are kept very busy all year round. The ponds get cleaned as and when. Everything has it's schedule.
The terrace where the church is includes a Haha. Its a drop in the landscape, where the staff of the house could pass infront of the house without being seen by the Holford family.
The picture of the previous houses are displayed in the Headmistress office.

It hasn't changed much at all.
I remember most of the rooms. But the bedrooms are upstairs for the pupils. The ghost does walk around up there. There is bats in the cellar. I know that dinning room well.
The ghost is Lady Halford
An episode of Antiques Roadshow was filmed out on the back lawn. The Two Fat Ladies filmed in the kitchen.

I believe the longest private house frontage is of Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorkshire, now being restored.
You could well be right. I had read about that, but I'd also read the same about Stowe. I might look into it a bit more and try to find out the official measurements for the two. Thanks for watching my video, Adam :)
