Das ist die ideale Kombination : stupende Schönheit, wunderbare Gesangskultur, Intelligenz und fröhliche Offenheit. Eine der faszinierendsten Persönlichkeiten dieser Welt. Danke, dass es sie gibt.

The only thing better than Susan Graham and Renee Fleming individually is the two of them together. ❤

Very few opera singers can sing popular songs in the right style and the right voice. Unfortunately, Joyce Di Donato is not one of the few. I much prefer this song performed by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Helen O'Connell, Judy Garland, Judy Collins, and Frank Sinatra. Joyce should stick to opera, in which she excels.

In her master classes she stresses to her students.. "Don't try to make it more than it is..". Great advice, but here I think she fell into the same trap that she warned her students to fall into.. Listen to Cecilia Bartoli. When it comes to Händel, I feel Bartoli is perfect. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJWr3M-keLfaotY.html

That ending “come to mama DO, my sweet embraceable YOU” is Just vocally Stunning. I envy how she gets her voice up there so seemingly effortless.

She is lovely but somehow the wit, yes wit, of the lyric is missing. This Gershwin is not a torch song bit an 'invitation.'

Joyce was dismissed as without charisma by many conductors and directors. Thanks God she did not listen to them.

Все делают чудовищное ritenuto (,,черты далёкой бедной девы)раньше и ,очевидно,больше,чем это написано в нотах.Голос прекрасный,кто же спорит ,интерпретация -привычный шаблон.Не знаю,одобрил бы С.В.

Completely agree ! On the other hand it is surely a strange thing, but I once realized, that in order to produce such heavenly music it was unevitably necessary to cut some trees to build all these marvelous instruments, then to kill some animals to get the colons used for the strings and also to cut the tails of some horses to get the hairs for the bows. It seems humans, even to achieve their most beautiful efforts, are somehow doomed to bring destruction to some extent upon nature first, and living beings other than humans have to pay the price for it. And for all kinds of civilization, that humankind achieves, nature has to bring a sacrifice first ... That's the strange and really dark way it is, and nothing will ever change that unfortunately....
