I reckon if O.F.I.T.G writer - David Renwick had put his mind to it, he could have given Jonathan Miller a role in the form of victor mildews more chirpy, friendly, and more successful brother - Hector Mildew

I'm surprised that no-one here is pointing out the fact that all The Goons were straight, white males. Which completely invalidates everything they ever did, in the eyes of some people.

One concert I got backstage, and asked Gordon, "How does one make the big time ? " He said, "Go to Hollywood and start knocking on doors". He added, "Just give them one or two songs; nobody should get all your stuff ". Guess that was the voice of experience!

What a lovely documentary! I have pretty much all the surviving Goon Shows on my phone, and I wouldn't be without them: they (perhaps ironically) keep me sane. While listening, I've often thought to myself that Spike Milligan might very well be the funniest person who ever lived.

These old documentaries are gold. Hollywood brings out movies like Dunkirk and the new Masters Of The Air shows, but this is where you find the really small details that don't make it to the big screen.

I discovered the Goons on LPs, when I was a teenager. Bonus: My high school's library had the book of Goon Show Scripts. To this day, I'm the only member of my family who can understand what the Goons are saying. And Bluebottle is the most annoying voice in my repertoire of impressions.

I was a very young kid in the 80s in Ireland listening to re-runs of the goons. I absolutely loved the shows. They helped form my zany humor and my love of comedy. I loved the way their jokes surprised you in a kind of obvious but surreal way.... Once you heard The Goons surreal joke you thought "ohh yeah, how didnt I spot that". Like the Mirage joke or the "I got the wall as a present" joke in this documentary. Its just Spike playing with the obvious. As a result of The Goons whenever I hear a sentence my first thought is wheres the obvious/literal somewhat surreal joke thats in that sentence. Whats the double meaning etc... And its amazing how often its there and how funny people find it when you point it out to them. I have The Goons to thank for teachin me that. Its a lot of fun !(:
