    Hey thanks for commenting. My supplier changed my minimum order to like 5000 which is a little high for me so unfortunately I had to stop carrying them and I haven’t been able to find a good source for them since.

    Apparently, you shouldn't use water. Leads to rust. Better to use very light oil..e.g. Trend lapping fluid.

    Might try laying the cut out on a large nut of appropriate size, place ball end of your hammer on it and tap it down until you have the crown you need. I’ve done this a few times to make a kind of standoff washer. Works pretty good.

    Thanks, this was very helpful. I’ve been putting handles on my tools that don’t have them. I have an old draw knife that looks like what you started with but no handles or caps. I’ll use copper pipe for the ferrules and will need to make end caps. I had thought about using epoxy to hold the handles in, but doing it the right way makes more sense. My knife also has a maker’s mark, “WYE74” and USA on the next line. I haven’t found anything yet to provide more info on that. I know it has to date back to at least the early 1900’s based on our family history and where this came from.

    did you see the tech sheet on that C-tough? - "Note: Shear strength will increase significantly if bonding parts are allowed to cure 24 hours at 25°C(77°F) followed by 30 minutes cure at 120°C(250°F) after the initial 24 hour cure at room temperature (if possible)."

  • @MikejonesknifeandtoolTk
    @MikejonesknifeandtoolTk3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I didn’t bake these because I wanted to do a direct comparison, and I don’t think I’d want to be baking handle material when it’s glued to a knife. I can’t imagine ever needing more shear strength than this already has.

    how do you keep the grind line distinct from the flat? I guess hand sanding softens the line? How do you do your finish grinding and sanding on the flats?

  • @MikejonesknifeandtoolTk
    @MikejonesknifeandtoolTk3 жыл бұрын

    machine grinding creates the distinct line, hand sanding usually blends that a bit. Most of my outdoor knives are machine-finished (except damascus) and most of my kitchen stuff is hand sanded.

  • @WuTangClanForever88

    @@MikejonesknifeandtoolTk Say I want that distinct line. Should I sand flats then bevel? What grit progression do you use before and after HT?
