Van Halen did not abandon Roth, Roth abandoned Van Halen. Roth had already been practicing with a new band (his) with Eddie (seemingly) being replaced Steve Vai. Van Halen was caught by surprise when Roth failed to make it to a rehearsal and finally told them the news. Van Halen was introduced to Hagar by chance when the Eddie and Hagar struck a conversation at their mechanic's shop while both their Lamborghini's were being worked on. No disrepect but please do research before you make a video trying to tell the story. There are multiple interviews with Eddie and Hagar explaining how he joined the band.

He shows up with his roadie. He has a room that no one is aloud to go into setup the hall. He has his amps, guitar equipment and his movie screen setup. Staff is not allowed to talk to him or look him in the eyes. He uses the halls sound system. Any communication is done through his handler/roadie. He does over two hours of solo music. He does have different face coverings when he has the audience tap the guitar buttons. Reminds me of "Chuck Berry" hiring in random bands that knew his songs (Bruce Springsteen was one) doing a gig and driving off into the sunset. Yes it was a great experience and a tiring one too. Strange was there wasn't any merchandise like shirts or anything on sale. There was one little thing but it seemed to be left over from another gig. Anyway.. it was an interesting show. Had some great videos of my daughter tapping buckets guitar .. YaY ..

I still have my Easter egg cards he gave me in April 2019 in Orlando HoB. I was wearing a black 2112 shirt and he did a double take, looked at me (it seemed) and reached toward me and flipped it into my hands (I’m 6’2”). I was like a 10yo boy again. Always wondered what he thought of Rush and Alex Lifeson since then.

  • @guitarmeetsscience

Rush is just one of those bands that so many love. Alex lifeson is a real hoot - I saw him on trailer park boys which is a hilarious show. The whole group had a good sense of humor. I could see buckethead being a fan for sure. That is a very cool story - thanks for sharing that!

Roy Buchanan did what jimi fid without the pedals and levers. Hendrix refused to meet or play with Roy. Didn’t make me like the music less, but lost respect for the man. Try Roy’s ‘ the messiah will come again’. Peter Green and Jeff Beck. Jimi’s in there. Clapton and Page. Not quite. IMHO. BTW. Roy Clark was insanely good and Glen Campbell did a duet with Clark that showed his chops. Best. All individual opinion.

Great video! I would have loved to see you acknowledge Evan Johns in this video, a protege of Danny’s. Evan was the front man for The Danny Gatton Band on the Redneck Jazz record. He also penned the Title Track of that record “Redneck Jazz” as well as some, or possibly all of the B-side to that record. Evan was an amazing guitar player and direct musical descendant of Danny Gatton. I was roommates with Evan in Austin, Texas in the early 90’s. And saw him and his H-Bombs tons of times. Ivan Brown and Mark Korpi being notable amazing musicians in that band. Evan had Norma Gatton (Danny’s Mom and namesake of NRG Records- Norma Rae Gatton) send me a copy of Redneck Jazz on Vinyl. When it showed up it was a Clear Red pressing. Evan signed that for me and it is one of my prized possessions. Anyway, he had such amazing stories he told of his times with Danny. Evan was one of the first on the scene after Danny;s suicide. And while I knew Evan, he could never bring it up without it breaking him down to tears. Danny was obviously a great and loving man, and I could see and hear it in everything that Evan ever told me about him. RIP to Danny and Evan. Two unique and amazing guitar players who really never got the praise or attention they deserve.

The souther musician was far better than any others. But the did bot get recognition. The desparity of south and north was poor at best. However while I was in College the red neck police would through you I jail over no law. I was the academic type, I could not play ANY musical instrument. I was bless in other ways. Living in Memphis I saw almost everyone in concert. Back in the 70’s was the best time to be a person who appreciated profoundly great music. So many of the best are gone. And as the days of my life are shorter I thank God for letting me live and achieve many accolades in academia.
