With the 4" buffer what length buffer tube do i need
I appreciate the website and related videos you put out Sir! I was having issues with my recent 9mm PCC build with the KAK colt magazine adapter. Turned out it was the ejector not sitting right in the bolt and this video helped sort me out! heated, bent, verified positioning. Now it runs like a beast.
I just built my first ar9 using your grs and used a ballistic advantage barrel, it has a large chanfer for feeding which is nice but I can see the back of the bullet. Is that normal or is something wrong?
If you are worried about "pistoning" with those rounds? Drill some holes in the back of the buffer tube like H&K does for the OTB "Over the Beach" M16 modification. Lot easier than grinding tungsten.
Maxim defense is extremely underrated as a company
I'd love to see A5 tubes comparing the hydrolic buffer and 2 weights vs the KAK plus the TACCOM mini add on buffer spring.
did I do something wrong, I haven't had any problems with my AR9 I built from parts from multiple vendors
Does the K-Spec GRS variant have as much dot bounce as the hydraulic GRS?
Are these the 1”x3/8” pinewood derby weights for sale on Pur-Tungsten?
I am a competitive shooter - IDPA PCC. What system would you recommend?
I am a competitive shooter PCC IDPA. What system would you recommend? I am currently running a KynSHOT 5015HD with a 5.56 carbine spring. I use 160 gr 9mm bullets at a 135PF. Gun shoot fairly soft. MY 45ACP AR shoots as soft as a MP5 using the same spring and buffer.
Im using a standard 556 lower..so i bought the sylvan arms magwell adapter and that has its own ejector that seems to be short..doesnt reach the top of the channel of the bcg. Is there a magwell adapter you can recommend that would work better and accept glock mags?
Great vid! It will be interesting to see how these work long term.
This is proof of concept/experimental. For anyone curious, these are the weights I'm using, but they needed some air channels and beveling for reliability. pur-tungsten.net/shop/3-oz-tungsten-pinewood-derby-cylinder-weight/
Anyone tried this with a side charger ar9?
Excellent as always. Do you by chance have the link to which ones you used?
pur-tungsten.net/shop/3-oz-tungsten-pinewood-derby-cylinder-weight/ $16 on sale. Very low price for tungsten.
Your channel must be giving them some traction. They're back up to $26 now lol. Eager to try them.
Appreciate all the work and enjoy the experimentation. 👍
Looks like they are holding up fine so far. Nice! I have 2 of the pur weights on the way along with the K*spec 5.5 buffer and flat spring
I just ordered a K-spec 5.5oz. buffer for testing.
Same just ordered 2 tungsten and 5.6 oz buffer. 😊
If the new post May 2024 Wilson Combat Flat wire spring no longer fits the Kynshot, what buffer spring do you recommend as an alternative that will work?
Tubb AR-15, MidwayUSA, Spinta all fit really well. More here: blowback9.wordpress.com/2023/03/03/flat-wire-spring-comparison/
Just installed the gentle recoil system in my ANGSTADTARMS UDP-9 few days ago using the JRC buffer tube, with all the same parts you have listed. Yesterday went and shot about 200 rounds, what a difference it's so nice to shoot now and make follow up shots. used to kick like a mule with the standard tube and 6oz buffer. Adding a muzzle brake this week see if I can make it any better.
This is a really awesome product. I wonder how it would work with the Mean Arms bearing delay upper, basically a double delay. 😂 I have to admit I am kind of curious, especially if you’re suppressing it. Having that extra back pressure and having two delays might really help with the gas to my face. Although I don’t know if it would work having two delays.
It probably wouldn't cycle. Each mechanical delay is designed to dissipate a large part of the recoil energy. There wouln't be enough left over to operate the 2nd mechanical system.
Brownells has the K-SPEC AR-15 H3 BUFFER/SPRING KIT 5.5OZ in stock, I got it for 41 bucks shipped.
I just ordered one, it was 51 shipped. Did you order the right weight? there were 3 options.
@@Blowback9 Yes it was H3 5.5 oz.
The Gentle Recoil System utilizes heavy mass, hydrauilc buffer cushioning, and a flat wire spring to mitigate the snappy recoil of a 9mm AR. Currently the sytem uses Kynshot steel spacer weights between the buffer and bolt to increase the mass of the fairly light hydraulic buffer. Each weight adds 3/4" to the length of the system, so we need a longer A5 or JRC buffer tube to fit all the parts. Most people would rather just use a standard carbine buffer tube. These tungsten weights allow me to add the same mass in a smaller space, fitting the A5 sized GRS into a carbine tube: Kynshot hydraulic buffer RB5000HP (3.25", 4.8oz.) + two 3/8" 3oz. tungsten spacer weights (3/4", 6oz.) + flat wire spring.
So are you putting them in ur buffer??? I don't understand what ur doing because if they barely fit in the buffer tube I'm guessing it not putting them in the buffer so are u putting them behind the spring???? Pls let me know and what issues it helps to fix as well ide greatly appreciate it and thanks for another great video!!!!
The Gentle Recoil System (GRS) uses kynshot weights between the buffer and bolt to add weight to the hydraulic buffer, but it needs a longer tube to fit all the parts. These are smaller and weigh more, letting the system fit in a carbine buffer tube. More info: blowback9.wordpress.com/2024/06/13/tungsten-rounds-carbine-gentle-recoil-system/
Is tungsten too hard to drill with tungsten carbide coated bits?
Plain tungsten can be worked with normal tools. These rounds seem to be a very hard alloy and needed diamond tools.
Great vid! Thanks for the continued development you do!
I have bought tungsten weights for reg AR-15 buffers from PUR Tungsten before. Good company.
I was wondering if you have use the stern defense glock adapter on any of you guns?
I do not. It didn't work well for me, but lots of people use it without any problems.
@@Blowback9 thank you for you reply and thank you again for the great work you doing .
Just got everything to build a 9 with the grs including the jrc tube. You may have to glue them together, if the air cuts arent lined up it would defeat the purpose
Oddly enough the air seems to get around them, but I'll probably glue them together with Lexel.

I ordered a nbs super lite mlok qd handguard, it has no instructions. It's my first upper build from scratch and I can't find any torque specs anywhere. Is there a general barrel nut torque and for handguard screws?
@@tomrhodes4907 You could use the same barrel nut torque specs as for an AR-15. It should come up in a search.
Keep the good work and thank you for all the information .
What about foxtrot Mike barrel ? Are they any good ? I like there pricing
Yes. I use a 9mm barrel I bought on clearance from Midway - $69.
I order a kawvally its advertise for 9 mm and 45. With a 308 spring. 8 ounce buffer. She I avoid them. And just fork over the money and buy $80 buffer kit 10 ounce
You don't need a .308 spring. Just buy a $1 5.56 carbine spring. I have tried several buffer weights up to 10oz. Softest shooting is a KynSHOT HD buffer with the AR spring. I shoot 160 9mm bullets.
Instead of grinding the hard tungsten weights just drill 5 small air drain holes into the buffer tube, place them between the 6 adjustment recesses. Easy drilling, works perfectly. Best regards from Germany
Great idea! IIRC, the Aero Enhanced buffer tube has air holes drilled by the factory in the stock adjustment pin recesses. I swap parts so often (including tubes - I have many), that for me it's better to modify the weights.
Drill a hole in the middle where the buff tube hole is .
@@user-nu6zn1br6w The weights go up front inbetween the buffer and the bolt to add weight to the buffer, so that really wouldn't work. The air needs to flow around the outside.
I have an AR9. I fired it for the first time recently. 100 rounds. BKings BCG, Macon Armory barrel. BKings upper, PSA lower. KAK kspec enhanced 9.5oz. buffer. After firing it, the buffer face is getting beat up by the detent pin. The rear of the BCG got chipped, the firing pin tip is damaged, and the retaining pin is bent. Other than the obvious, that PSA's detent hole is probably off center (causing the detent pin to damage the buffer face) What do you think is wrong with the BCG that caused it to get chipped, and the firing pin tip damaged, and the retaining pin bent?
When you close your upper, does the rear of the BCG slightly push back on the buffer? That should definitely show whether or not the detent hole is not drilled correctly.
@@DogeMcLovin I'm not the OP, but how does the BCG pushing back on the buffer upon closing the upper indicate whether or not the detent hole is correctly centered?
@@MrBlahblahblee To my knowledge, the buffer should protrude slightly past the buffer tower. This is so when the BCG goes back into battery, the buffer detent pin does not take the force of it cycling, thus gouging the face of it. Of course a BCG that is too short could cause this too; causing the buffer to overtravel on the return stroke and smash into the detent pin.
Update. It was the detent pin from the PSA lower that did all of this damage, to include the detent pin chipping my bolt. I took my AR9 into BKings Firearms today and they confirmed this. They even gave me a brand new bolt under warranty to replace the chipped one. I then junked the PSA lower, and bought a BKings 5.56 mod-0 lower (I use endomags for my AR9), and everything is working good now. Just say no to PSA lowers. Their misaligned detent pin (which is a known issue with them) damaged almost $300 in parts on my gun. So get this, I go to PSA's website, click on the item I bought, and gave them a 1 star review. It was an honest review, no disrespect, just facts. They sent me an email stating that they would not post my review because it was negative. Go look at all of their products. All of them are only 5 star reviews. They literally censor any negative reviews.
@@-kepha8828 this would make the most sense. A misaligned or too rearward of a detent pin would mean that the pin is hitting BCG every time it fires instead of traveling through the detent channel on the BCG, which could also in theory cause the firing pin to experience impact as it comes out of the hole. There is something called an “offset detent pin” that sits more forward in the buffer tube so that the BCG can sit atop the pin when the upper is closed

What’s the model/ weight of the Wilson combat spring ?
Wilson changed their spring recently. Mine is the older version that fits around the buffer. The new ones may not fit. Tubb AR-15 carbine flat wire is a good replacement option.
@@Blowback9 thank you Sir
Great info, thank you
Did any of the barrels have the enhanced feed cone?
They did not! It looks like my receivers/barrel/mag height all line up properly for good feeding (this doesn't always happen). The Angstadt has a decent cone and was well polished. The MidStateFirearms barrel was standard.
👍🏼
How do you think the k spec A5H4 would work with an 8 inch cmmg rdb kit? That's what I want to build.
Not sure. CMMG is mechanically delayed, not simple blowback. It's a completely different operating system, so it's not my field of expertise. Sorry!
Screwing a comp on will make a big difference.
Wilson combat has a 9 mm recoil system that uses 1911 springs. Have you heard about that or know anything? It would be pretty cool to see a detailed video on that type of setup. The concept of using 1911 springs sounds pretty interesting
In my experience, and for others as well, a lighter spring reduces felt recoil while heavier springs make the felt recoil experience worse by slamming the bolt closed much harder than necessary. AR9's use a 12# 5.56 carbine spring. I'm skeptical that their 15, 17, or 20# springs will improve the recoil experience, BUT I'm open to trying it. Let me see what I can do about getting one.
Does Kynshot make a buffer that fits flat wire springs? Mine does not.
I have a Wilson Combat flat carbine spring. It wasn't supposed to fit, but it does.
There are several flatwire springs that fit the Kynshot buffers. The SI is a poor fit, and some folks have problems with the new Wilson springs. Here's all my fit testing (15 different flat springs): blowback9.wordpress.com/2023/03/03/flat-wire-spring-comparison/ Top 4 in the charts would be my choice.
I've been using the GRS and I'm loving it. Have you tried the Taccom recoil system? Curious to see how their setup compares
I bought the Taccom 3 stage air recoil system and stuck it in one of my AR's. I didn't tell my daughter and handed it to her. After 2 shots, she handed it back. It might not have as much muzzle bounce for competition, but felt recoil was 3x the gentle recoil system. The Taccom setup lives in a drawer now.
@@2dchopperx Great "blind taste test" experiment! Thanks for sharing this!

Bought two of these. One black one fde. Neither will work with the PSA AV9. The bolt catch is to high. Removed. It still will not fit. Because magazine is to high. Then there is the tall feed ramp that also prevents these to be used on PSA AV9 Lower at all. Not even close enough to modify. The PSA AV9 is absolute junk. Don't know how the two Matador 9 uppers work. I don't plan on putting them on anything else
What do you think about using a standard AR 15 receiver with Means Arms Exomags?
The only problem I have with them is that the ejector is built into the magazine insert, so removing the mag removes the ejector. This can be a concern when clearing a loaded firearm. The loaded magazine needs to be removed and an empty Endo/Exomag inserted to clear the gun and eject a chambered round. Otherwise the round may remain on the bolt face when the bolt is pulled back, and re-chamber again when the bolt is closed. Since this process changes the standard "manual of arms" to make a firearm safe, I'm not a big fan. However, many people use them without incident.
Yea doesn't work.
Used the spring that came with the firearm, do not twist it on it WILL bind.
