    Great interview! I was hooked on Iolanda’s song the first time I heard it and must admit to being a bit disappointed that it didn’t win, but the votes don’t always come down to merit alone. As an immigrant to this country her outlook and perspective makes me super happy I chose tontice here ❤

    The North of Portugal has many descendents from Swabia, Visigoths but not just. Vandals, Buri, Quads also came along with the Suebi. Most are hidden away in small hamlets and villages in the hinterland and hills of Portugal, where they hid from the Romans and other invaders. It's really quite amazing when I run into one, as there are plenty in the Minho (NE area) where my heritage is from.

    The reference to the Fifth Empire appears in the Bible and becomes a myth through interpretations that have evolved over time. In Portugal, Bandarra (1500?-1556), Father António Vieira (1608-1697), and Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935) reinterpreted the myth.

Thanks for watching Jose and for your comment. I am not sure how you reached that conclusion. What I got out of this conversation is that Simone, who I'm pretty sure is not a cult leader or doesn't belong to a cult, feels that Portugal is a place where people feel like they have the freedom to express themselves and be. That's a good thing I think :)

    What might be considered a cult for you, might be not be for many others! In Portugal we have freedom of religion whether you like it or not! It's very subjective! By definition the catholic church is also a cult and it doesn't seem to bother us! Personally I think Christianity has gone ashtray and I'm glad to start seeing people practicing advaita vedanta which in my view point brings a lot more sanity than other christian group, we even have a garden about it!

    It's interesting her mother-in-law's name is Coutinho. I'm Portuguese and In 2017 I traveled to Goa with some friends. This one indian guy helped us at the airport and told us he had portuguese blood and his surname was Coutinho. Next day we find him sunbathing while sitting on his porch, on a house with the 'Coutinho' tile (in Portugal people often use tiles with their family names to identify their houses). So, either we found a relative of your guest's, or Coutinho is a very common surname in Goa.

    When one moves to another country, the first thing to admit is that it is a privilege one must never forget. I've been in Portugal for 6 years and sadly have met too many non Portuguese who carry a degree of arrogance & privilege simply by the fact that many of them are 'financially much healthier' than the average Portuguese. We must be aware that there are positives & negatives to foreigners moving into a new country. Issues such as causing an increase in costs of accommodation, especially in working class areas. The Portuguese are mostly incredibly friendly & helpful people but it is understandable that those impacted by foreigner's influence on such a basic thing as increasing local accommodation costs cannot be ignored.

  • @dylanherholdt7970
    @dylanherholdt7970Ай бұрын

    Thanks for watching and for your comment. I agree! It's a privilege to be here and as foreigners who have been lucky enough to move here we should be grateful for the positives and be aware and sensitive to the challenges. I must say, for my clients from so many different parts of the world, they are aware of the issues that you speak of and I've never felt an arrogance but I'm also not in places where this may be more prominent.
