I surf Lake Michigan and I’ll never get to experience this like chicken joe did but it looks like a hell of a time.
Its hard work as the swell is so powerful when it comes from a cyclone! Surfing a lake is incredible! How do you find that experience?
@@AngusKennedywell you know it’s not an ocean. Over the years the surf community has started to grow more and more here on lake MI. I surf the Wisconsin side. We got a tight knitted community that cares for everyone. Obviously the waves arnt that of an ocean but you can get some surprising power off them. The first time you ride a wave here your surprised because it has way more power than it looked. We can get up to 9ft tall waves here.
@@astrobastro565 wow that’s huge I had no idea a lake could do that!!! I’ve only ever surfed in pacific ocean so I can’t even imagine what that’s like. It’s awesome there’s a little surf community too, that’s what it’s all about.

Old memories I don't know if it lines up like it use too?. Still I loved 1st pnt out the front right of keyhole.
I have moved away from the coast 2 years ago now so I'm not sure how it lines up these days. In my experience surfing it from around 2012-2020 it rarely lined up very well for short boarders, it was a nice long boarding wave but very fat and it was rare you'd find one that walled up. When did you surf here?
@@AngusKennedy from the 90s to 2010 around that time frame. Yeah it does get fat and the sections don't line up much.
I've had some incredible waves out there from time to time but also a lot of disappointing sessions where my arms and back are just toast from all the paddling haha.

@@AngusKennedy I loved the place though the turtles clear water in winter pretty magical spot and it can handle the bigger swells. Some of the waves I have seen break out on that outer ledge were pretty heavy but bloody hard to paddle too.

It's not a good wave for beginners as the dangers the rocks and reef present. However if you are a competent surfer already, a soft board would be fine.
I walked around to this surf point the other day but very choppy, whats the right conditions for it cheers@@AngusKennedy
@@anguscameron561 Point Cartwright works well on a southerly wind or even a south easterly which is the common wind direction most of the time. Normally when most other beaches look choppy and crap, carties can be good.
Know the spot and how cold it can be in the surf in winter there. Moved back north. Lol.

Love the feeling of getting them all the way in and then jumping off the rocks again to get back to the line up quicker.
Yeah for sure! Can surf for way longer that way too, if I had to paddle back each time I'd be done after 3 waves haha

Can I ask, what's the round things on the front of your board?
GoPro mounts to attach the camera to the front of the surfboard. Some of my other videos use that angle for filming.

I have been riding a 6'8 20 year old McCoy nugget and just bought my first new board, a new 6'6 McCoy nugget! Haven't tried it yet as I only got it today but I'm sure it will be as fun and as fast as the old board. Thanks for sharing your awesome video.

you should hit the rock jump towards the right of the wave for easier access and less paddling
I used to always do that but I got absolutely smoked on the rocks once a few years ago so I just paddle out now haha

I've always enjoyed going to Agnes and 1770, there's better waves down south but in terms of wave quality to crowd ratio Agnes is right up the top for me.

@@AngusKennedy did you go to Sentosa or wild wild wet? Cause I couldn't even see anything at Sentosa but they changed the name to wave house by Sentosa but it's not in Sentosa I guess. I know they were going to open something at wild wild wet before it became the quarantine zone. And I haven't seen anything on social media after the owner/founder passed away. I'll only be here for a month so I was hoping to enjoy some artificial surf while I'm in town.

Hey mate this was in Sentosa when I was there a few years ago, I’m actually not sure what’s happening there lately, I live in NZ. I heard a rumour that the wave pool in Sentosa has closed but it’s just a rumour so I could be wrong

Mate I wish I went out there at least once hey, I've moved away from the Sunshine Coast now and don't have that opportunity anymore. My friends and I always talked of going out there but we never got around to it.

Glad to see McCoy still around. My first board was a McCoy, back in the 80's. Got it used and dented for $20, bit it worked fine.
Yeah my dad is a collector of McCoy boards, I had great fun riding this one Amazing to see the boards have survived the test of time from back then to now!

It's a tiny surf town with plenty of room, I'm sure you'd find somewhere to stay!
3 mins to beach 5 mins to the surf break. The town is full of body workers yoga teacher surfing nature

Was good fun but so difficult, felt more like water skiing than it did surfing. The water is only about an inch deep onto the bottom so I was battered and bruised after this session haha
My home. I miss the great waves down there 2 cold for me know.
Yeah skinny fella like me had to get a 5mm wetsuit made just to be able to survive in the water haha Loved the waves up that east coast!
