What's Martin Doing Today?
This channel may have videos about my working in the yard or maybe cooking something on the smoker!
I'm into lots of different things and only recently started making videos too.
Let's see where this goes.....!

Keep up the great work
Thank you for the comment Nate. Your compliment is appreciated. I'm really trying to improve the videos as well as our yard.
Congrats! Bet it felt good.
Yes sir!! I'm hoping the groove I found doesn't remain elusive when the season starts!!
Thank you for all your work you help me putting it together
Hey Terry, thanks for the comment. I'm so glad this helped you! If I were to do something like this again, I'll try to do more detail on each of the steps.
How does the skylight panel seal? I'm sure you probably caulking the end with a pivot point is but what about down the spine?? How would it not keep the window shut or crack on trying to open?!
Thanks so much for your comment/questions. First - I was frustrated that I could not figure out a way to send a picture to you - so let me quote the instructions. From page 62, Step 14, Attach Roof Assemblies to Frame Part 3, section F: "Apply silicone caulking on the top of the Continuous Hinge so the silicone completely covers the pivot joints." That seemed odd to us, but since the silicone remains flexible after curing, it doesn't inhibit the movement of the panel. Secondly, if I understand correctly, there really isn't an attempt to completely seal, that is, make the roof vent water tight. It's my belief that the rationale for applying sealant where they advise it is to keep water from collecting/pooling against wood, thereby inhibiting rot. Since the lower edge of the vent panel is left "open", a little bit of water is expected to drip down into the greenhouse, which my wife just confirmed on ours - a couple of spots on the floor directly below the corners of the bottom edge of the vent panel. Just for reference, the link to the online version of the manual I used for this reply is here: yardistrystructures.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/YM11945_6.7_x_7.8_Meridian_Greenhouse_July_29_2022.pdf I hope this answers your questions. Thanks again for your comment. Martin
Shades of 2001 Space Odyssey!!!
Yeah Suzie, last two posted videos had music from the same movie! It's what was rolling around in my head while shooting. And, after compiling the segments, it was the same length as the video!! Some of the music phrases matched the video transitions. A lucky coincidence!
@@martinleif2872 My daughter Kim and I loved the vent opening. That was funny!
@@suziewojtkiewicz9966 we cracked up too!
Where did you get the vent screen? We have wasps in our greenhouse.
Hi Sue - it came with the kit. Which I think was something Yardistry added between 2022 and 2023. Here's my rationale for the thought. We found the manual that came with our kit was dated from Oct. 2023. But the online versions for the same manual were from mid 2022, as I recall. The older manuals did NOT have the installation instruction page for the vent screen. In my manual, it's part information is: "Vent Mesh", (Y20118-852). My hope is that you could request one by contacting Yardistry directly. I hope that helps. And thank you so much for your comment.
@@martinleif2872 I got my kit in October 2023 and it did not come with a screen.
That's quite strange, and blows up my theory. However, it's still my guess that contacting Yardistry directly may help purchasers get a vent mesh.
Too funny!
Thank you Suzie! Exactly what I was going for!!!
Maybe when you put a different shim behind the sliding latch you could also put a shim behind the bottom magnet.
That's a great suggestion! We'll keep that in mind.
Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed the build. Congratulations on a successful project.
Thanks Dubi - it was fun although because of my OCD, I really strove for perfect accuracy - which along with avoiding working when it got too hot - made this build take as long as it did. Then - having to work outside in the mornings, the release of the videos was delayed by having to pick all the cut points and deciding what to a) keep, b) keep at normal speed, c) speed up to 4x or d) make even faster than that w/o audio. Then find and time music to go into what I call the "hyper speed" segments. So much for the "editor's blues"! Really appreciate you comments.
2 questions. If there a handle on the inside of the door so if you are inside you can pull the door closed to the magnets. And if you are inside and it is really windy out if there maybe a hook and eye inside. The door closer probably is enough but just thinking of different scenarios. I had to do that for my greenhouse in South Dakota.
You know, one of the videos we watched mentioned adding an interior handle. We'll see what Brenda wants based on her experiences with the building. So far, I've apparently adjusted the vent to open only around 75 degrees, instead of the low 60s it was doing before. I'm going to waste some time and some day do a time-lapse of the vent opening and closing!
It's a good thing you had to move the greenhouse away from the shed otherwise it looks like the runoff from the roof would have been constantly hitting the side of the shed. Great build.
OMG - hadn't even crossed our minds! You're so right. One more full length video, and a short one. I'm trying to talk Brenda into having me "interview" her regarding what she experienced in the build plus the features she likes and her plans for use of the greenhouse.
So cool! I love it Dad!
Thank you Tara! That was a fun build!! I think I shot it in 4K and may have posted it in 1080.
Good idea putting down a tarp. Less likely to loose hardware that way. Nice project.
That was a great bonus too! It was also there to protect the factory stain/finish on the parts. But boy oh boy, the aggregate surface of the concrete deck! Murder on the knees!!
Brenda needs a mic
She had one but it was "merged" with mine on the receiver so there wasn't independent volume control. More to learn....
I had that flower growing here that has the lacy ferny leaves. It was phacelia.
Brenda appreciated that.
Your beets look great I think those are just old leaves dying.
Brenda has read that it could be one of 5 things, one of which is over watering. We've had lots or rain recently. We'll see if that's it.
nice bamboo. I had to go buy some yesterday so I could stake up my dahlias.
Sounds like a great idea.
those first light purple flowers were cosmos, and yes some of those in that other planter are definitely 4 oclocks.
Brenda concurs.
Awesome 👏
Thank you for the compliment/comment!!!
I appreciate your video!
Thank you very much. My wife's the real gardener. I just try to build stuff for her!!
This was a lovely clip. You can improve on the audio, but I could still understand it. Best of luck with the garden and your channel
Than you for your kind comments. We've already implemented a solution, even for videos shot on the cell phone. The next garden update video will have the completed blueberry palace!! ;-)
What fun! It's starting to be great weather for volleyball!
Thanks so much for your comment. It's been hard to sit out for winter indoor play, but am working the arm to be ready to play really soon.
You definitely need a bigger container to mix that in. I think Brenda's idea of 2 roasting pans is definitely needed.
We went looking at a thrift store today. Nothing found for that, but she found 3 books with lots of pictures she can use for her art work!!
Very nice umbrella. Curious how it holds up in the wind?
Me too Dubi!! There are no statements regarding what wind speed to avoid so we'll be cautious. I didn't really finish my 'outro' when that little wind came up!!! Time will tell.
Can't hear you, plus I don't care
Well - I still appreciate your comment. I've addressed the audio issue in the next cell phone video I shot, today - using the wireless lav mic and recording the audio on the transmitter - then putting it together with the cell phone "portrait" format 9:16 1080 image - required for a KZread "short". So - my apologies - probably won't happen again!!! We keep trying to improve.
Garden looks amazing.
Thanks!! We're working hard on it.
I’d be complaining to the mulch company and ask for a partial refund.
Thanks for the comment Suzie. We can comment/complain but it's free so we kinda roll the dice. getchipdrop.com/
I use my battery powered drill. Much faster
If I had known before going up there which but to use, I would have too! I'm going to go with being distracted by setting up two cameras and wireless mic!!
Atta Boy!
Thanks brother!
Congratulations! Hoping you have an amazing day
Thanks so much for the well wishes. The day your comment came in I was working on the tractor moving a load of mulch. Long form video is in editing.
Congrats my dude! May you get decades more use out of that arm and keep on keepin on!
Thank you very much Mathew for your encouraging words. That's how we're feeling about it too.
Place is looking great. Maybe some kind of big angle brackets for the corners of the beds
Thank you Debbie. That's one method we're considering. Another would be to put 4x4 posts on the inside and connect new boards - but flame them this time.
@@martinleif2872 all good options
i'm thoroughly enjoying your channel, my friend. Very glad to hear you're doing so well. keep it up!
Thanks Bill. I really appreciate your kind thoughts. It's surprisingly fun!! Sure miss the gang at the house ultrasound built! And I hope you are doing well too.
Nice project. Suggestion, fill the umbrella base with water instead of sand.
That's certainly a consideration. I think the manual, (yes, I'm one of "those" that reads manuals!) said to use a mix of sand and water. Appreciate the comments.
You don't have to tie that down in any way?
Good call! Yep, that will be today, while smoking some ribs!!
Good luck! Can't wait to see it! 😊♥️
Preliminary edit is done - just have to run it past the exec producer! Should post this evening! And thanks so much for the comment!
Didn't you know you were supposed to pull weeds at my house first? Fun video, thanks
Well Dubi, when I bring the ribs, I'll do some weeding!
Cool
Thanks Debbie! The more I think about it - I've seen and done videos where time was "sped up" compared to "time lapse". Since the audio in a "speed ramped" video is more or less useless, the fact that time lapse, or as my camcorder calls it, "Interval Recording" doesn't record ANY audio, it's nice to have smaller files to work with.
Whatever footage was on the right was smooth :)
That's camcorder. To be fair, I'm probably not quite giving the dslr/stabilizer a fair shake.
Interesting project, fun video to watch. Amazing how things change over a single decade. Congrats on the rebuild.
I got the school of the real world with framing-level carpentry, simple single phase electrical for outlets and lights plus a beginner's exposure to simple composite roofing. I can build fences too, but really suck at gates!!! Now, another plumbing task is kicking my a$$! Gonna call a pro. All the $$$ I saved fixing the PVC pipe in the front will be diverted to this. It never ends!!!
In this instance, definitely the camcorder. It was more stable and had better color quality. Maybe after fine tuning the DSLR I'll change my opinion.
Thanks for the comment Dubi. Next time, I'll add getting the focal length to match better and slow down a bit overall. And I need to give the dslr/stabilizer a bit more attention.
Aside from the fact that you went really fast, I think I prefer the camcorder.
I'm leaning camcorder too, but I should really give the dslr stabilizer a fine tuning.
That was quite the project. I enjoyed the music.
It was quite a learning experience!
I remember going there. Your shot transitions are cool.
Thanks Debbie. I was having a bit of fun. Seems to fit the 'Charlie' videos well ;-)
PROBLEM WITH YOUR SOLUTION. I have used many "Ringo Rangers" in Amateur Radio and Commercial radio. The antenna requires a counterpoise. It will perform properly if you put it on a pipe greater than a half wave long. If you read the directions this would have told you that. 73 KV4WM a US Navy Nuclear Submarine Veteran and Amateur Radio Operator.
Thank you so much for your helpful comment SX939. I'll take that into consideration when I find and install the better screw-type house clamps. 73 KI7TEQ.
I don't think they make vent pipes that substantial anymore. Hose clamps might have been easier.
Hose clamps would make the antennae mast more secure. They are available in many sizes.
You're totally right, they're plastic now!! When I finally got everything up there, I used 18" of strap. So far, I've only seen hose clamps to 15". But I'll keep looking....
@@martinleif2872 I have put 2 clamps together in the past to make a longer one
@@debbiegallett1125 And, it was pointed out that I goofed up. I was using circumference instead of diameter! I think I've seen at both hardware and automotive parts stores clamps of sufficient diameter.... Some days....
@@dubiloo734 , I'm going to get some really soon. Hopefully a video with better audio too!
Nice looking hostas!
Thanks Joshua. They're Brenda's favorites!
I used to put a trickle charger on the battery of my lawnmower in South Dakota during the winter.
I've considered a trickle charger for both the tractor and the rider. So far, I've only occasionally needed the jump starter for either. Rider is on its third battery; the tractor still has its original.
I liked your new montage intro. Plumbing is the worst job. Glad it went smoothly. Your shoulder seems to be in great shape.
Thank you Debbie!! You're right, maybe that's why I've left plumbing to last!!! I seriously expected a fine spray at the very least!! And thanks for the compliment on the opening!
