Sadly, the quik drop at my local D&B has been busted for a while now. Something must be off with the chute since button presses and balls released are so inconsistent. The jackpot has been capped at 1k for at least 3 months now.

Huh? There is that one version where it gives 290 tickets jackpot and it doesn’t change the jackpot value and i won like 5 times in a row

I don't think my arcade has it rigged, with a lot of practice I can consistently win 3-5 times in a row and only lose 3-5 times before getting a win. It's a lot of good profit for me. Glad I havent been banned yet

If these machines were programmed only to succeed a certain percentage of the time I'd be fine with that, but only allowing it payout after meeting a wagering requirement should be illegal.

we have been playing this one every time we hit up the Chuck E Cheese to use our summer play pass. Sometimes you get lucky and a kid has swiped multiple times and left them unredeemed. I went back once w/o the kids to use up some credits and I noticed its much much easier as one player, as mentioned in the video. But I still can't beat the Mega Spider...

Someone else already said it, but there was an arcade game almost exactly like this that I grew up with. Apparently it was called Buzzy Buzzy Bee or Buzzy Bee, I don't really remember the name. The balls were black and yellow striped, and they'd fly around in their enclosure. You had to not only catch them, but then also dump them in a honey pot in order to count it as a point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Buzzy Bee handled tickets better because each point was equal to a ticket, so your ticket gain was way higher than this popcorn game. Still incredibly neat, I love seeing arcade games like this. Thanks for the video, man. It was nice to see this.

My local mini-golf place with a tiny arcade attached has had this machine for at least 16 years. The kinetic energy of all the ping-pong balls flying everywhere captivated me as a kid, but it was never a good machine for tickets. The handle on my arcade's machine is also broken, leaving just a little metal piece which doesn't help with aiming.

I miss getting physical tickets at arcades, it feels so much better to carry around a huge wad of paper tickets instead of having it all on a credit card. And the credit card machines still take forever to "dispense" your "tickets" so you don't even get the advantage of instantly being credited 500 tickets all at once due to the digital nature of them

If they used something that floats down slowly instead of ping pong balls, that would make it more feasible to catch more

these are definitely the machines designed for the parents to sit at while the kids are doing other things. its always the parents on them! (my mom enjoys the star trek one when we went to d&b recently). It's also one of the few things you can get physical rewards as in cards now after tickets moved to digital, so there is some more 'umph' from getting these even if mathematically its not the best return. its not the worst return either especially if you don't have the reflexes for pop the lock or other more technical games.

There should be a jiffy pop version, where instead of catching popcorn, you have to time when you take it off the heat. And when you lose you get shitty burnt popcorn, but when you win, you get mediocre popcorn

yay, capybarski uploaded! this is a cute little game, i haven't seen this one around. do you have Ice Man at any of your local arcades? i'd love to see a review of it, it's a game where you blast targets on a screen with actual water guns! the sides of the cabinet have rip off Plants vs. Zombies art on them too, it's hilarious. i don't really know how good the ticket potential is as i've only played it once, but it's a really unique game

I saw this on my front page and was hit with a blast of nostalgia....I remember playing this at my local arcade and I loved it immensely. All of the 'popcorn' was very appealing to young me. I could understand putting this so low; the length the bucket is makes D a very reasonable placement. But then you put Spider Stompin' down that low! For shame! lol Having stepped into ticketed arcades again for the first time in 20 or so years, I can say that, yeah, these wouldn't get much play in a Dave and Busters today, or any other establishment with tickets. Man, even *tickets* are prone to inflation....our generation's really got it rough lol

For what it's worth, Segasonic Popcorn Shop runs great in MAME besides the lack of physical popcorn. There's also a map based on it in Doctor Robotnik's Ring Racers, which is like basically the same thing right...?

Seems like the simplest option to make things more skill based would be offering more degrees of freedom. Being able to move in and out would probably be the most valuable.

I had a very loose strategy to this game as a kid, but it might have been completely placebo. The trick was to actually let your popcorn bucket get partially filled. I don't have true evidence of this working, since I was 9 years old when I came up with this strat, but I swear if two popcorn balls collide in the bucket, it sometimes counts them both. That's right! The ball that landed on top of a ball, and the ball that was already in the bucket. But maybe my local arcade had the sensor just cranked way too high or something. Anyway, that was one of the games that I remembered being a sort of turning point as a child. Where I realized that, even though game = fun, fun ≠ tickets. I lost some innocence that day, when I decided to no longer play my favorite machines, but instead play the not very fun ones that gave way more tickets. All so I could win maybe a parachute soldier along with my spider ring.

Mercy tickets is useful for some arcade stores. By default Intercard would block another player from playing the game, unless 2 minutes passed or at least 1 ticket have paid out.

Heeey, there I am, Gary! Absolutely awesome that you had a local machine for this, I haven't played it since that Funtime America location I mentioned shut down. Fun to learn it was a Baytek game, and that the name literally WAS just "Popcorn". :b
