    Good question. If the wisdom teeth were completely visible and the Dr didn’t need to cut the gums to access it. Then yes it is normal to leave it open. The blood will clot and that will turn into tissue. Just stay away from straws and stick to a liquid diet for a week.

    I got all of my wisdom teeth out 3 weeks ago as they were really impacted. There was some nerve damage on the left side. I don’t have taste on left side of my tongue. The sensation on my gums was gone for 2 weeks now the sensation is back. But on my tongue I’m slightly feeling some taste on the back and side of my tongue but burning sensation on top. Dr. how much time estimated will it take to get the taste back considering I’m already feeling some sensation back in my tongue.

    Great question. Depending on your age, it can take up to 9 months. Past that point there is little to no progress beyond that. Swelling can cause compression to your nerve which can give you your symptoms. The fact that you are regaining sensation are all great signs. Be patient, up to 3 months is the avg that I see. But can take up to 9 months. So treat your body well, drink plenty of water and get good sleep. All combined will help you recover faster. Keep me updated, take care!

    When you say Shaking, does that mean it’s moving? If it is, that can be normal IF it was used to move the wisdom tooth out. If you have periodontal disease, the wisdom tooth could have been holding that tooth in place and now moving. I would give it 3-4 wks to heal and then see if the tooth is still moving. If it is go see the Dr who removed the wisdom tooth. But a little Movement to the tooth can be normal so don’t sweat until you’ve had time to heal.

    What about oil pulling? Also i notice that certain foods irritate my gums, like coffee, bread, biscuits, sugary foods..so i avoid these. Using salt water to brush is also good. Have also heard that plain calcium carbonate can be used as tooth paste ..😮

  • @advancedhealthdentistry
    @advancedhealthdentistry4 күн бұрын

    I’m no expert in oil pulling. In my research, it is a dental practice that it originated in India. It is believed to help with gum disease and help reduce bacteria that causes bad breath, cavities and gum disease. But I was not able to find definitive studies/research that back up the claims. I know people have used it with some success and some with no success. I cannot make a recommendation for oil pulling because I have no research to back it up. My general opinion, if it works for you then go for it. However, when I make recommendation I try to make sure I have several sources of research and the science is repeatable and testable. Yes certain foods are acidic and sugars/carbs is turned into acid by the bacteria in our mouth. So it makes sense that your gums are irritated by them. But there are also other factors like immune response to those foods and or any system and genetic predisposition that can make a person more or less sensitive to those foods. I say, use trial and error. If it makes your gums worse, then find a different substitute. Salt water is fantastic for controlling bacteria, I recommend it after surgeries. It helps reduce dry socket and localized infections. The reality is, the act of brushing/flossing is a mechanical removal of plaque off our teeth is all you need. Do you need tooth paste, if you watch what you eat/drink and diligent and consistent with oral hygiene, then no you don’t need it. But the fluoride and anti-microbial additives does help those who have less than perfect oral hygiene. I hope that helps! Take care

    I take out wisdom teeth at any age. But the biggest thing you need to find out is if you wisdom teeth is going to create problems in the future. Even though that is hard to do, for me the one determining factor is if the wisdom tooth is completely covered by bone. If it is not, then there is a high probability you can have problems later in life. Know that the only way to know if the tooth is completely covered by bone is with a CBCT machine. A standard panorex will not be enough. Yes you can wait to see if it gives you problems in the future but the biggest problem in my experience is your ability to heal is less as you get older and risk of nerve damage that can leave your jaw numb for the rest of your life. Now this is very rare but I have a personal friend that had hers removed in her 50s and half of her jaw is numb. She knew the risks because she worked for an oral surgeon but they had not choice but to remove it due to infection. She is the reason why I recommend removing it when you are young. 21 yrs old is still young, I’d get a consult from your oral surgeon and then make an informed decision. Take care!

And then after sometime I noticed my upper molar teeth are growing on both sides.. But I'm feeling heavy pain on my cheeks, can't able to open my mouth wide even for eating or talked..hurts when I smile and this pain is been there for me for the past 3 days.. How to check if my upper molars are growing in normal position or the pain is due to shifted more laterally and poking my cheeks

    So the only way to check if they are coming in straight is with an X-ray. But what you are feeling is very common symptom as the tooth tries to erupt through the gums. It causes inflammation and aches. Get a consult from your dentist or oral surgeon and they should be able to guide you. I have plenty of young men and women with the same symptoms. After we removed their wisdom teeth, it all went away.

    If you can see the nerve, yes 100% get it removed. You’d have to perform a root canal and restore the wisdom tooth if you were trying to save it. I don’t know very many doctors in the US that is willing to do that.

    How long ago did you remove the wisdom teeth? If you can see or feel a hole, that usually means it is a ‘dry socket’. The blood clot that is in there is not gone. I recommend gentle warm salt water rise and take ibuprofen if you can take them. Typically it is temporary and usually goes away after 3 wks.

  • @sirRustyiron

    Hey doc, so my situation, I take care of my oral hygiene religiously, brushing flossing with interdental/string floss. So overall teeth/gums are healthy. However my top right wisdom tooth acts up randomly sometimes, like the teeth has almost fully erupted but not enough for me to be able to floss. So it swells up sometimes and becomes tender, mild pain but then after few days to a week it goes away. It keeps reoccurring randomly. Do you think it’s best just to keep it and take care of it or potentially remove it. I’ve had the top left removed awhile back and that side is amazing.

  • @advancedhealthdentistry
    @advancedhealthdentistry14 күн бұрын

    So wisdom teeth, even if they are fully erupted contribute to less than 1% of chewing. Also, when you open your jaw, a portion of the bone called “Coranoid Process” of the Mandible. This gets on the way when you open your mouth making it hard to brush the top wisdom teeth. This is the primary reason the top wisdom teeth are removed, because they cannot be cleaned properly by you or by your hygienist. Since I’m not your dentist and can’t see your charts, I cannot give you a thumbs up. But I will recommend seeing your oral surgeon and/or dentist. But from personal experience, it sounds to me like you should have them removed because the problem usually gets worse and complications can occur. Best of luck! Keep us updated!

I’ll ask my dr if there’s an acidity exam I can try but sometimes doing the basics does nothing to help . Very frustrating

    Look up this website: Dailydentalcares.com I’m not associated with them or have any financial affiliation. The Dr who made it is a microbiologist. Made it bc her mom who was in a retirement home developed periodontal disease and rampant decay. Prior to that her mom had no dental issues. The lozenges is designed to help reduce acidity in the mouth after eating and prevents the harmful bacteria from getting to the sugar and carbs we eat. It is also great for dry mouth. In your case, it’s hard to guide you properly without knowing the dental history. But have you had an Oral DNA test done? It’s a saliva sample that looks for high risk bacteria in our mouth. Also, have you ever had anyone treat you with laser therapy to kill the bacteria? If anything give those lozenges a try. They are safe and I use it daily and I also give it to my 3 yr old daughter who loves her sugar. Keep me updated, take care!

    So from the same Dr who created the lozenges, with her microbiology background, their studies show that certain bacteria develop resistance to xylitol over time. I know it’s touted as helping with oral bacteria but they do develop resistance over time. The lozenge primary job it to prevent the uptake/consumption of carbs/sugars by the bacteria. As far as the test. Look up, oraldna.com. Your dentist just takes a saliva sample from you and it is sent off to the lab for testing. When you get the results back it shows the bacteria that is the highest risk and have recommendation

  • @advancedhealthdentistry

    There are several companies out there that test bacteria in the mouth, this just happens to be what we use in my office. As far as getting this test in Canada, I’m sure there are some that do but like in the US, not all will test. You will have to call or do research, their website may have the info.

  • @advancedhealthdentistry

    Lastly, laser therapy is very common use in the US for treating periodontal therapy. Do a Google search for this: ‘Laser in Periodontal treatment research’ That should give you an understanding of laser in dentistry. There many different lasers in the market so do your research on them and who does them. In the US it is heavily regulated so for dental use they have to pass specific tests otherwise the laser cannot be used. I hope this helps!

    Usually wisdom teeth pain is associated with inflammation. If you are not allergic, take 1000mg Tylenol and 800mg ibuprofen together. Ibuprofen will be your friend, it will help with swelling of the tissue around the wisdom tooth. Warm salt water rinse 3x daily, especially after eating. If you are having pain now, it can get worse. See your oral surgeon or dentist to have it looked at. Keep us updated.

  • @advancedhealthdentistry
    @advancedhealthdentistryАй бұрын

    So whenever you have that discomfort when eating, it usually means the gums covering your wisdom teeth is high and the food and/or your teeth is hitting it. Without a X-ray, I can’t say for certain, but I’ve had plenty of patients in your situation and removing the wisdom teeth solved their problem. The other thing to consider is your TMJ. Pressure on the joint like grinding and or clenching can cause TMJ disorders which can contribute to ear pain as well. Less likely in your case because the pain is associated with eating only. Check with your Oral Surgeon and have it evaluated properly. The X-ray will give the Doctor the most information about your pain. I hope this helps, keep us posted! Take care!

    Most heal within 3 wks from personal experience. Research says it can take up to 45 days heal over. If the thousands of surgeries I’ve done, I’ve had a few take a couple months. Most were older and had significant medical history. Can you see or feel any sharp edges like a butter knife edge? Depending on how the surgery went and difficulty of case, you can have bone spur and/or root tips that emerge to the surface of the tissue. Sometimes you can physically see it, sometimes you can see it with an X-ray. If I have delayed healing, I normally take an X-ray just to make sure there is not root tip remaining. Sometimes that can give you pain for a few months. Root tip doesn’t mean good or bad, it can just irritation if the body decides not to heal bone over the top of it. I hope that helps. Keep me posted, thanks!

    Going under surgery is always scary but it is typically no deep sedation, which is where medical complications can occur, so the risks usually far less. As far as the surgery, it usually doesn’t hurt any more or less vs less complicated extractions. The biggest difference is usually swelling. Keep your activity level to a couch potato for the next week. Be regular with ibuprofen/NSAIDs and ice it well. The hardest is the first week, usually gets better after that. Take care!

  • @advancedhealthdentistry
    @advancedhealthdentistry4 ай бұрын

    It depends, if the tooth has not broken through the gums there is a chance you may not have to. But if you have pericoronitis, it could mean that food and/or bacteria is getting under the gums even if you can’t see it. Is there a tooth next to it? Trauma from brushing, hard crunchy foods and biting can cause inflammation at the site but doesn’t mean you have to remove it. Without seeing the history and proper diagnostic test, I couldn’t tell you if you should or should not extract it. Best advice I can give you is check with your dentist and/or oral surgeon for their best advice. For me, looking at a panorex and cbct is how I diagnose and determine if it is or will become a problem. Keep us updated, take care!
