    A) Alvin and the Chipmunks (Their punk phase is brutal) B) Bennie and the Jets C) Cookie Monster (He's the artist on the list that I most identify with. Honorable mention: CB4, California Raisins, and, of course, Camel Lips) D) Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem E) Ellen Aim and the Attackers (Can be seen in the movie Streets of Fire) F) Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes (Can be seen in an obscure sci-fi flick) G) God (People have been debating this one for years. Some claim it's not a real artist) H) How Now Brown and the Moo Wave (Their song "Danger's No Stranger" is a banger) I) Iron Fist (Can be seen in the movie We Are the Best!) J) Josie and the Pussycats K) Kaptain Kool and the Kongs (GG Allin's favorite band) L) Limozeen (Glam metal giants) M) Mok (Can be seen in Rock & Rule, a movie that also has songs by Cheap Trick, Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Honorable mention: M&M's, the candy, just because they're so dang good)

    It was an exaggerated take on the grunge scene. We dont realize it now that it's written in history but those who witnessed the scene remember grunge and crust punks were physically disgusting people. Dirty clothing, smelled like garbage and cigarette smoke most of the time, normally didnt take care of themselves just nasty nasty stuff. In my city most punks and grunge/alt fans looked like homeless junkies. Not sure how it was in Chicago but in New York I remember totally thinking Stanley was some exaggerated caricature of alt bands since at any punk show you'd see at least 4 or 5 guys that were just as crusty and gross as him.

  • @BriansFunHouse
    @BriansFunHouse6 күн бұрын

    I guess that's one take on it. Our crusty punk scene was pretty much just going to hard-core shows. So Seattle type bands or pop punk bands, those crowds really wouldn't have any. Reminds me of a story..I was in a band and we picked up a very crusty punk hitchhiking after playing a show in San Fran. We drove him home and he ended up living in a very rich area outside of the city.....

    @@BriansFunHouse Dude the SAME THING happened to me in 1997. I was a teen and would wander the streets broke and aimlessly, well one night I meet a group of "homeless" teens maybe a year or two older than me with thick southern accents who claimed to be from Georgia. Well they hang out with my group of street kid friends listening to music in music stores, eating at charities/churches, hanging out in the park - the typical broke teenage punk thing. Well at one point one of the Georgia girls gets sick of being on the street and demands to go home. We think "home" is us all helping her get a bus ticket back to Georgia. No, turns out they were all rich kids and had driven up to NYC in a BMW that was parked in a private parking lot and were staying at the Midtown Manhattan Hilton. There were larpers even back then lol

    I was told back in the day, and not exactly word for word. But that Stanley was found next to the recording studio. So they hired a drunk homeless mentally challenged man to cut the vocals. Supposably he wore the same suit the entire time. And I think it was recorded coincidentally in Tulsa Oklahoma. And I'm like yep there's a bunch of homeless drunks there. I thought they were an interesting band. Gimmicks add to the art.

    I won't lie. I was born in 70. Bon for me is the man. But to this day, there has never been a better replacement of a front man than Brian Johnson. Some would say Sammy Van Halen. But the album For Those About To Rock.... I'll say say it was all good in the era of 80's when glam came in AGAIN was wrong. So sure, those and future works are good. I recently bought Free Design's 1970 album Sing for Very Important People. I think it pairs well with Black Sabbath's 1970 debut. Many people probably don't consider Free Design to be a dark or heavy band, but just check out the cover of the album. It's a crying clown with Kruegeresque fingers drawn by a deranged child. I think it's as creepy as the Black Sabbath cover. Now for the songs. Every time I listen to Free Design's version of the Sesame Street theme, I throw up the devil horns. It's worth noting that Ozzy also took inspiration from the Street. I'm sure you're familiar with his song "C Is for Cocaine," with its lyrics, "C is for cocaine / Is good enough for me / Though I once snorted ants / For a Crüe called Mötley." The song title "Scarlet Tree" is clearly a reference to Satan. "Love You," the band's most popular song, has the subliminal message, "I love Lucy's fur," which, whether said fast or slow, is obscene. "Kites are Fun," the band's biggest hit, has the subliminal message, "Drugs are fun. Drop LSD. Drop a baby on its head." The album is full of messages like that for the attentive listener to pick up on. I picked up a first press of the album for $25 on eBay. Not a bad price. The vinyl was NM and the jacket was VG. I could see that the cover was a cutout. That's one of the advantages of buying from eBay over Discogs. I think the person who sold you the Queen single should've mentioned the black permanent marker. The median price on Discogs for the Free Design album is $38.50. That's much easier on the wallet than a NM Sabbath first press. Frankly, it's a steal . . . though it may steal your soul. Thanks for reading. Stay sick.

  • @BriansFunHouse
    @BriansFunHouseАй бұрын

    I for sure gotta check out Free Design. Black Sabbaths influence musically, emotionally, visually, is unreal. I for sure strongly prefer ebay over discogs for that reason alone. Strange that discogs hasn't realized people dont want to ask to see photos, they want them immediately. Thanks for your comment and stay well hydrated this summer.

    I still have the same CD I bought in 1992 a couple of months after it came out. Almost completely worn out inoperable. A friend of mine introduced it to me one day when he said something along the lines of "There's this new band, you're going to LOVE this." I thought ok, just going to listen to it to make him happy. No idea that what I was about to listen to was going to be one of my all time favorite go to hard rock albums that I would repeatedly listen to ad nauseum over the next 30 plus years on and off, no joke or exaggeration at all. Especially during misrable college and employment situations. Pure misery. That album fits right in with GNR's AFD, Metallica's MOP and Black album, Skid Row STTG, Pantera's Vulgar, Alice in Chains "Dirt" just to name a VERY small few of the rock/metal genres. There are many concert regrets in my life of bands or solo artists that I did not see or only saw one once. LSD is one of those as I never saw them ever in concert even one time. LSD had something, some intangible quality that I secretly thank God was recorded both on audio with their Silent Majority album and of course whatever concert video exists. I sincerely apologize for the ramble. Music and especially hard rock/metal got me through things that no amount of money would be enough incentive to go back and repeat.

    great comment, and really that is why bands (well most) make music. To get us through tough times, life long events. I always tell people if it wasn't for music i do not know where i would be in life.
