Emulation is awesome! So there’s this and TouchHLE. Man I would love to play CoD Zombies on my Anbernic RG556. Wish Archetype lasted long enough but then again it wouldn’t need emulation, just a nice upgrade to modern iOS and Android as well… but ofc it’ll come with a damn battle pass 😅

It's like these publishers actually WANT us to be happy about not owning our games... In fact, I like to think that if you worked at a major AAA game publisher like Ubisioft, EA, or Activision, and you used words such as 'game preservation' or 'pro-consumer', you'd be fired.

Same thing happened with Square Enix when they re-released all the Final Fantasy games. Any previous licences became null and void. Konami also did the same when Master Collection came out. Digital copies of MGS 2, 3 and whatever other games were simply taken offline. This is why digital only will never work. Essentially now you're not paying to own a game anymore, you're just paying for a license to play it.

game preservation is important! Not only for historical purposes but also for education. Its a great showpiece for technology at that time and teaching new developers or people that are curious. Its also a great time capsule

I never modded my Xbox 360 (Granted because I CAN'T lol) but I wanna know. If you turn off your Xbox 360 during those RGH attempts, would it cause problems or birkc the console, or would it still work just fine? Just so I know before getting an RGH'ed Xbox 360 or meeting someone who can RGH it for me?

I will be absolutely honest. I pirate games today as I used to download demos years back. I bought Elden ring as I loved it and many other games over the last few years,. But for F's sake, I have pirated games I had really high hopes for, and after an hour I completely deleted them from my PC.

This is what Adobe did with Flash. Many bought Flash along with Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. And Adobe was like, everything you did, you can't use anymore, you can't use the software anymore, nothing will ever run this ever again. How is that legal? Not supporting something is one thing, makiing sure it will never run again is another. Thank god for hackers.

To hammer home how The Crew was basically an offline game with always-online forced onto it like an abusive marriage, I was driving an hour-long race, which there were a few of, aand at the end of the race I was presented with a disconnect screen. I checked and found out thag I lost my internet connection over half an hour ago. So the game was perfectly happy with letting me continue to drive offline and only once it wanted to update my profile with the completed race, I got kicked from the game.

Owned anything not a single one of you unless you own a publishing company or developer that owns an IP you never own anything you haven’t since the first software was delivered on floppy disks. Read your license agreements before you talk about shit you know nothing about read your license agreements, you purchase a license to use the software and to put it so merrily your license can be revoked at any time for almost any reason Without giving you any money back you literally a one-sided deal you pay 30 bucks 50 bucks 100 bucks for a license to use a certain piece of software in this case of video game just so long as the developers or the owners of the IP want you to use it? They come pretty much shut you down for almost any reason they choose, you’ve never owned what you own when you take it home from the store is a plastic jewel case if it’s in a CD or a DVD or some kind of optical medium do you want the case you disc that it’s written on but the actual code on the desk doesn’t belong to you so stop whining I mean seriously it’s a ridiculous and worn out argument. I have 400+ titles with Sony and the ones that are standalone single player titles. Those will never be taken from me unless the developer not Sony but the developer decides that they want those tiles shut down in which case as long as I have it installed I’ll be good but it’s possible I mean I have titles in my list where the software has been shut down for years Defiance is an example. I can still download and install that it’s still available to me the Sony catalog but it’s an MMO with server requirements and the servers are gone doesn’t matter whether I have a physical copy or a digital copy. I still can’t play it and I really don’t care about too many single player games standalone non-server related that are getting shut down by developers. What’s getting shut down our games that require a server component and the servers are being shut down because the people that play the game aren’t making the company any money Yet when they do shut it down there’s literally hundreds of thousands of people complaining about it but when you look at you know same number there’s like eight people playing in the game at any given moment so who the fuck are all these other people in any case you’ve never owned any piece of software, unless you wrote it yourself or bought the intellectual property from the person who did it right and when you buy a disc at the store, you don’t buy the actual property right you buy a license a limited licenseto use the software at the owners whim

This type of policy is far more important than video game access, and if we want legislation to be actually be passed against this practice we need to frame this like what it really is, a software and productivity issue that can potentially disrupt the entire economy on an international scale. What’s stopping Adobe or Microsoft from making their software “online only” and pulling access to millions of businesses and employees that rely on it to make critical business decisions and processes? Moreover, what’s stopping them from stopping support for their current versions and then putting a “updated” version behind a new paywall. This doesn’t just apply to computer software, you’ll be getting a bunch of hybrid cases of things like people’s internet, satellite, printers, TV’s, etc. having the risk of being disabled because of useless DRM and companies deciding they’d rather make current things obsolete to make a new, more profitable product
