    Sounds great, don't it? By the boat or by the cabin what's the difference when you've been screwed by these guys? Once you sucker-up and sign the contract they have your MONEY, and you are now betting that money that you won’t be SCREWED by these people waiting for them to delivery on their promise. Good Luck. You might, randomly, get very lucky, and get a boat that is newer and not a chartered-out and broken POS but good luck with that, don't count on it. Picture yourself standing in the hot sun at the marina with no place to stay, no provisions, no communication with them about the broken boat you've contracted, and you'll get the idea. They LITERALLY DON'T CARE. And don't think that your credit card will protect you, tried contesting the contracted charge for non-delivery and was denied because "the merchant is not liable for "the quality' of the rendered service." Can you believe it? I was SCREWED by these people.

    Hi Bruno, although I am now retired for over three years, I can tell you that your exact experience with the charter company can be significantly reduced by a good charter broker. They usually know which boats, which companies and the like to be avoided. If something does happen, like in your instance, they can negotiate for you. It should not be forgotten that brokers book lots of charters for each charter company, so they have more bargaining power than a single client. Just a thought!

    @@ProteusYachtCharters Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice shame on ME. NEVER again with these people even if it were FREE I wouldn't trust them. That's the point of my review, my experience happened because of a systemic and chronic ignorance of their business practices from the head office on down the chain. Does Loic Bonnet KNOW what's going on? If he doesn't then he's ignorant and just syphoning off the money, if he does then he's a crook and just syphoning off the money until the company goes belly-up.

    Hey scott, I really enjoy your videos. One question I have is do you know anywhere that would let someone singlehanded-bareboat charter in the BVI? seems like most places understandably require 2 people on board

  • @ProteusYachtCharters
    @ProteusYachtCharters Жыл бұрын

    Hi Josh, I have had this question a few times over the last 30 years or so. You will not find a reputable charter company of any type allow single handing. This is predominantly that insurance will not cover it, and almost every fleet is composed of yacht owned by individuals and leased back to the charter company. In all honesty even chartering to a full crew is a big risk, for many reasons, but single handing s charter boat increases the risk exponentially. You might find a private individual who is willing to charter to you, but they will not have proper charter insurance and the risk to you is higher as well with a private individual rather than a professional charter company. I am sure this is not what you wanted to hear. Scott

    Blah Blah Blah. You won't be allowed to take out the boat on your own. Want counts is time on the water as skipper. Period. There is no such thing as a bareboat "certification." Your experience in your logbook will either let you rent a boat or not. The charter company wants to see how much time you have as skipper. There is a great amount of lying and resume inflation on the charter company qualification forms; how else do you think all those drunk yokels you see on the water get to skipper a boat?

    This sounds like more government red tape and indirect taxation. No discussion concerning sailing should ever require uttering the phrase “United Nations”. Sailors by definition sail/travel the world...the entire World. This is like have a designated place in the swimming pool where pissing is allowed.

    is it time to redo/edit those videos and adjust to current conditions or removing them all together ? As example , the Bitter End Marina ... as highly recommend in the video, it no longer exists due to the hurricane. What else was ruined ? ... - If not relevant (and I have no way of knowing if its so or not) - maybe consider removing those videos? what is the point in educating viewers with facts that are sadly no longer relevant?

    awesome videos. I never charted a boat and never been to a Chart briefing. This feels like IT. But I do have a question/feedback. As someone who is just starting to look at chartering in the BVI, I was looking to get a sense of times. How long to be in specific spot (recommended) and more importantly, give a sense of distance/time from point to point. I am sure that I can figure it out using a chart but for the video, would have been great to add "captions" illustrating distance. - Will be looking at the rest of your videos to learn more.

    You don't NEED any of those, if you know how to sail... They'll ask you to submit a resume of your sailing experience, then send you out with one of their skippers for a couple hours when you take delivery of the craft, to make sure you are competent. As long as you didn't lie about your competencey, you're golden.

    EU does not work like that. Here you need a licence to ride a bicycle on the road. To be able to sail offshore you will need a serious training, pass a bunch of theoretical and practical exams and sail 500nm before you can apply for an off shore skipper licence.
