The dungeon designer can put in wards and embedded devices to prevent certain things... like goodberry and light cantrips. Spells like heroes feast, etc. can produce spoiled food. No flying or scrying.... whatever you dont want to work. Or only a low percent of success or for shorter duration. Perhaps tiny huts shink over time and dont grant full benefit maybe for short rest only. Certain areas may have strong anti magic devices, psionic creatures, or devices that unattunes items that characters are attuned to (just in certain areas) and perhaps a falling ceiling block or bolder traps the characters from retreating. No teleport or dimension door. etc. Maybe misty step works. Food can be gotten from mushrooms, plants, fish, or animals in the dungeon (ala Delicious in Dungeon anime series)

Fun fact: The Fateforge materials became free/ pay what you want in response to the whole the OGL 1.1 debacle, when the Kickstarter (and similar) communities were unsure about how that would play out. They continue to release high quality materials and installments to this series, and their others, through Kickstarter and I highly recommend anyone who is interested in these books to support them in their Kickstarter launches because the quality, and communication, is top-tier and won't leave you disappointed.

I noticed a few things in the Letters from the Dark issue (GREAT zine, by the way) that seem to have gotten past the editors. Sharkfolk have poison? Two entries for the dragon turtle. And some of the ability descriptions on the NPC classes seem out-of-balance or oddly worded. Anyway, still looks like a great product, but I hope the quality isn't slipping due to the rapid pace at which they're releasing them. And I too skpped the last one - Hell just doesn't interest me that much - but may go back and get it one day for completeness sake since I have all the rest.
@RedMageGMАй бұрын
Chris actually clarified the Dragon Turtle entry in another comment. I think the quality is quite high - this one is definitely worth getting!
@ShinyMissingno97Ай бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for the kind words. The sharkfolk's poison ability is only for their blowfish attack (if it wasn't clear, the sharkfolk use fish as weapons). The description on the Sea Monsters page explains the dragon turtle: if the players want to fight the dragon turtle in a cinematic naval battle, I provided a stat block that presents the dragon turtle as if it were a boat, same as the kraken. The footnote on that page also explains where you can find those monsters' stat blocks if you want to fight them in traditional combat. I totally understand and appreciate not wanting the Hell issue. To pull back the curtain, commenters have consistently told me that #5 (Hell) and #3 (Fey) don't interest them, and those are the least popular issues as a result. I'm also rarely interested in RPG Hell settings, so for that issue I set to create my own that appealed more to me. Even if you don't run the adventure all the way through (and #5 is more of modern, narrative adventure path than a typical OSR setting), I think there's plenty of cool content in that issue to use for your own adventures!

Ok… real comment now… I’ve been tempted by letters from the dark before, but I think I’ll pull the trigger on this one. Running Cursed Scroll 3 right now, 4 sessions in, and they’ve been fighting pirates since session 3. Plus I need inspo because I want the other side (feywild/mirrror side) of the map to be a Peter Pan style adventure. So I need some pirate material. It’s gonna be lore accurate, of course, so Peter will be a charming demon Demi-god that keeps a tight grip on the islands, and Hook will be a former lost boy that escaped and wants to free as many as he can, and take down the evil trickster Pan

Even if you don't run the adventure all the way through (and #5 is more of modern, narrative adventure path than a typical OSR setting), I think there's plenty of cool content in that issue to use for your own adventures!
@@ShinyMissingno97 Nice. Thanks for this! Like I said in my opening post, I think your zine is great. My group treats it with the same esteem as Kelsey's Cursed Scroll zine. Even if the Hell topic wasn't my cuppa tea, I'm glad you're making stuff for all tastes. I'd be curious to see your take on sci-fantasy, a la Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, for Shadowdark.
@@spaceranger7683 That's an awesome idea! The success of the Borderlands zine proved that people really like the classics. I just need to find a good way to make Barrier Peaks (which I've actually never played or read) into something new and fresh.
DAMNIT!!! I have a time crawly thing going on in my campaign. It inspired me to make my hexcrawl for Frostmire a time travel campaign where I outline each hex according to its features during the present and the past.
hahaha it sounds like great minds think alike!
The 30HP dragon turtle is for use in naval combat, meaning it effectively has 300 hit points.
I realized my mistake after I finished the video. :D It makes sense!
I don't play solo games either, the other stuff is very interesting though! Thank you for always bringing cool stuff to our attention.
My pleasure!
Sounds awesome!! You should check out Neverland! Even though it's for 5e, the ideas are awesome, and it totally leans into the fey side of things!
If you want some evil fey creatures, please check out volume 3 as well!
Most definitely! ^
@@ShinyMissingno97 for sure. I’ll probably buy all of them at some point. They all look great.
Totally screen shotting the Peter Pan stuff!
