WOW - this interview has me in tears for many reasons. Duff has an “old sole” and I mean that in the most endearing way. Thank you Marc Brackett for sharing. I’m a huge advocate for mental health awareness. I have ADHD, depression, and anxiety. God Bless us all!
Emily is one of my favourite people🥹Was planning to meet her this year at comic con in Manchester but unfortunately I'm not able to anymore😭 I'll try some of these tips on how to manage my feelings around that lol
Some irony with some of the audition things... She probably went to some auditions thinking "well .. that sucked .. felt like it sucked.. no way getting THIS one.." An they watch her wind up WITH said role... An she was GREAT on TWD... Shoulda lived ALOT longer if not to the VERY END... Her death was the DUMBEST Forced death excuse just to have one EVER seen... An it was unnecessary an retarded
Growing up, dialogue wasn’t a default go-to during times of emotional upheaval. We usually slept it off or watched our elders isolate, which has its benefits but without actually sharing and being heard there were gaps in this coping mechanism that saw the un-processed emotion appear in other domains. Over time as we grew up, as I learnt strategies I started to do the listening myself, say overtly “I want someone to listen to me” or ask someone who is visually going through something emotionally heavy if they would like me to sit down and listen to them. With my family I started to create the environment I wanted for myself.
I absolutely loved this conversation! As a South African Indian, I was able to resonate with the various love languages of my elders: food, ritual …these are their emotional tools, these are their coping mechanisms. My key takeaways: 1. Micro-actions for boundary creation create micro-successes 2. Claim your own permission 3. Stoicism is not the only option available anymore for emotional regulation! This is a huge lesson for me I’ve actually experienced the Co-sharing of a task with people in my own culture and how that serves as a quiet dialogue of connection. I wish more people I knew watched this as it could be helpful and hopeful for them. Thank you both!
I just replied to your other comment on my other video! Thank you for sharing your experience, and I hope more people you know find these lessons helpful and hopeful.
Beautiful conversation! So much resonated with me. Keep it up Marc your work is making a difference in my life daily.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that our conversation resonated with you and is making a daily difference in your life. Your support means a lot. Keep engaging with the content and applying these insights to your journey.
I really love this episode because it made me think about a lot of my childhood memory. I recalled for many moments that I really wanted a "uncle Marvin" when I was young. It was so challenging to have someone truly understood me as a child and listen and respect my thoughts and feelings. If I could name a movie that describe what I learned about emotions growing up would be "A wise and ancient soul resides within a child's body." I wished there was someone read me well.
Will forever love Emily Kinney ❤️❤️❤️🌷🌷 this is beautiful
Thank you for tuning in 🙏

Emily is such an amazing soul, I love how open and honest she is about her emotions. Her music is raw feels very relatable. Love her❤

Thank you for your thoughtful comment and for tuning in. Emily’s warmth and talent shine through in both her acting and her music, making her a truly special artist.
emily kinney is beautiful so talented I admire her a lot and also the walkin dead
I've been watching TWD since season 1 I watched all spin offs and everything, but I only became like a true fan around season 6 so I never really paid much attention to Emily on the show, today I stop to think about it and I regret so much not knowing more about her and her work, especially her music. I struggle with mental health, I'm in my 30's and I don't feel the will to live and do stuff, it's like I gave up on my life and dreams, and I really never accomplished anything. Last year I was feeling really down and depressed crying on my bed, and then just out of nowhere I thought about Emily and wondered...does she really sing?? I started googleing her and her music, and I just fell in love immediately, the way she writes is so profound and poetic, you can feel the emotion in her eyes when she is performing. I never really followed any artist's work the way I do today with Emily's, I'm always trying to interact on instagram, twitter, tiktok and etc, I listen to her songs everyday and put them on repeat to help her numbers grow, I go to sleep listening to all her songs, I watch her shows on Veeps, which are amazing for someone who doesn't live in the US, like me. I'm always trying to find her movies and tv shows to watch too.No matter what she does, from now on, I'll forever be a fan and a follower of everything related to her, her music, her work, her essence, everything is so beautiful and make my days much better. Emily I wish I can go to one of your shoows one day and meet you in person, it's probably never gonna happen but, who knows. Great interview by the way, always good to know more about Emily's background.
This was brilliant. I adore Emily and her writing. Her music has soundtracked the most important years and moments of my life.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the interview! Emily's music indeed has a powerful way of connecting with people during significant moments in their lives. Her authenticity and talent shine through in everything she does.
I loved Emily on The Walking Dead and have been a fan of her music for almost a decade, I grew up with her songs and her presence musically has been a part of all the best and worst moments in my life, she has always made me feel seen in her beautiful writing, I’ll always be grateful for her talent, vulnerability and light 💛 This was a wonderful interview, thank you!
It's amazing to hear how her music has been a meaningful part of your life through both good and challenging times. Her ability to make people feel seen and understood through her art is truly special. Thank you for tuning in
It should be flat out illegal NOT to love Duff! My absolute favourite rock star of all time. If I could choose one famous person to spend an afternoon with, it'd be this amazing man! 🥰
Absolutely, Annette! Duff's incredible talent and genuine personality make him a legend. Spending an afternoon with him would be an unforgettable experience!
This really affected me. Thanks for being so honest Duff!
Duff McKagan, I am crying happy tears. I have loved you as a musician, brilliant human and listening to this on a day where the darkest thoughts knotted my innards, it helps. So very much. What gifts you have given! Always light through darkness. And I wish I could meet the little you who did not deserve any abuse, whether psychological, emotional, dis-interest in who you really were. This is a gushy, long-winded way of saying: thank you. And if you ever need a listening ear, place to cry, scream, chatter, be silent, I'm here for you always xx
Excellent interview!!! Fantastic question to name a movie title that describes your emotional development!!!
Thank you for catching on! I’m glad you enjoyed the interview. The movie title question is a fun way to explore emotional development, and it often leads to some deep and meaningful insights.
Duff looks great for 75.
You seem really smart for being so……starts with a D and ends with a B

Good job letting this guy tell his story without interrupting. Interesting and helpful stories.
Thank you, Dennis! Duff's stories are indeed captivating and insightful. We're glad you enjoyed the conversation.
I wonder what the boots on the ground employees would have to say about this? Typically upper mgmt is FAR removed from what actually is going on. Speaking from experience in an organization much, much smaller than Amazon. Mission, vision, values sound good. That's where they end.
Favourite one so far Marc! Love the honesty and practicality. Super interesting, Jewel was too! Your work is making such a difference in my life. Ive been implementing it in my class in NZ!
Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed this episode and found the honesty and practicality valuable. Jewel was indeed fantastic. It's incredibly rewarding to know that my work is making a difference in your life and that you're implementing it in your class in New Zealand. Keep up the great work, and thank you for your support!
Like Mr. Hua said regualting your negative emotions are key. I am working on regulating my emotions when it comes to the negative emotions of being hard on your self. It is tough to do.
Regulating negative emotions is definitely challenging but also incredibly important. Recognizing and working on being kinder to yourself is a significant step. Keep up the good work-self-compassion is a journey worth undertaking.
Duff is my savior thank you my friend
Why was Rich not asked what his future wife saw in college him? What was in it for her? What was Rich’s dating history prior to meeting her?
49: The #1 strategy is learning and internalizing what humans are actually like (including how they live naturally).
Terminally fascinating how white men are hailed as beacons of excellent citizenship and quality fatherhood while these kind of white men made their fortunes writing and singing about degrading and raping other peoples'' daughters and then broadcasted those kinds of messages to the masses to normalise and glamorise it. "Turn around bitch I got a use for you". Did he read his lyrics as bedtime stories to his "precious" offspring while they were growing up?
9:11 "To value emotions" ! A fabulous, direct and insightful statement and declaration! I will quote this! Thank you so kindly Marc and Rich! Bringing SEL to people in corporate environments make perfect sense!!! so needed. Rich, Amazon is llucky to have you !!!!AWESOME!!! Another AWE insight is that we can learn the SEL skills as adults even if we didn't "get them" as children. (A seniors age wise 55+ community too) I believe is an underserved community (I'm offering SEL umbrellaed under Relaxation/Stress Reduction this fall UCONN OLLI -I'll bring your book & videos to attention as primary resources TY!!!)
Thank you so much for your enthusiasm! Valuing emotions is indeed a crucial part of SEL, and I'm thrilled to hear that you'll be incorporating these principles into your program. The fact that adults, including seniors, can learn these skills is something we’re passionate about spreading. Your work at UCONN OLLI sounds incredibly impactful, and I’m honored that you’ll be using my book and videos as resources.
I like your libraries behind you and of course a quality interview 👍
Thank you for tuning in! It’s always a pleasure to create a conducive environment for quality conversations.
Been a fan of duffs since I was a kid. He speaks really well here. Love the vid!

39:40 Not a word about sex (which should be #1).
Great interview. Love it! As an immigrant myself, I think she’s really nailed it down.
Thank you! I’m delighted you enjoyed the interview. It’s wonderful to hear that you found Emily’s insights particularly resonant as an immigrant. Her experiences and perspectives truly speak to the diverse challenges and triumphs of navigating new environments.
Thanks a lot for this sharing! It’s helpful and encouraging. I agree that we need to respect our feeling and other’s feelings as well, no judgement, and we can also shake “things” off and learn, and move forward. And what we can do more, tell our own stories of growing to help. Sophie’s sharing is great, so is this webcast work! Thanks!
Loved him before, love him even more now.🙏🏽💜✨️
Thanks for tuning in 🙏
Inspirational guy - we could all learn from his life lessons
Thank you, Shaun! Duff’s life lessons are indeed inspirational. We can all learn a lot from his journey.
Thank you Duff. You make the world a better place.
Thank you, this was great
Everytime I hear Duff, I cry, I am so grateful to have read his book and understood I was in trouble as I recognised myself in his descriptions. He is so inspiring. Thank you for that incredible exchange.
Duff's willingness to share his journey is a gift to us all. Thanks for watching and for the support

Sobriety is hard...but a thousand times better. That meditation book called 30 Days to Sobriety by Harper Daniels helped my mind.
Duff is not only my role model on bass, but on life. Our paths are eerily similar and I respect that. My favorite part of this is the "good day to die" segment. Now I know where the line in Longfeather came from
John, it's amazing how Duff's journey mirrors yours. The "good day to die" segment is indeed profound. Thank you for sharing your connection.
Good for him❤
I love Duff!!
Feeling grateful to witness two men talk about their mental wellbeing openly. Really powerful interview!
