Can you train cadence lift rhythm in an 8y with nice lope need more collection used as halter w/t color classes?

Hi @carolr6957 Absolutely, you can help a horse at any age. With body control movement exercises and strengthening exercises you can take any horse and make them better and make their job easier. I have a mayor that I got in training at 18 years of age who was very unconditioned and didn’t have a lot of lift and cadence and we have remade her into just a beautiful mover. She’s successfully competing at major shows. Remember a great lope needs position impulsion, and lift, and all three of those things can be greatly improved with my body exercises that I outline and some of my training and teaching videos. I know I can help you. I would highly recommend the whole collection but specifically I would recommend: Fundamentals Volumes 1-4 Headset Series Take Control Volume 5-7 Maximizing Your Western Pleasure Horse Volumes 1 and 3 Also the Take Control Volume 3 - Get the Lean Out would also be good Hope this helps! Please email us if you have any additional questions: [email protected]

Wow that's a beautiful mare! I love it when you can tell a mare from across the arena because she has such feminine characteristics. I just found you and now I'm going to go find more of your videos to watch. So thank your horse for catching my attention haha

Hello! I love your training videos, but I’m just wondering if you could give me some tips. I don’t know if you’ve made any videos covering this, but I haven’t found any (you have so many, it’s kind of hard to find what I’m looking for). I’m a western pleasure rider, but my horse is actually 23 years old and not what I would call a “fresh mind”. She technically doesn’t belong to me, but I can use her for free like she’s my own. So she may be a little up-there in age, but for someone like me who can’t really afford to invest in purchasing a horse of my own at the moment, she works. I have been struggling a lot on getting her to slow down her stride and get that signature western pleasure lope and jog. I also use her in hunt seat, so it may be confusing that one day I’m asking for a nice extended english trot and the next I want a super slow pleasure jog, but no matter what I do, I can’t get her to slow down! If I take up riding two handed and really put a lot of pressure on the reins, I can get her to arch her neck and slow down, but the moment I give her her head and loosen my reins to the length they should be, she practically starts sprinting. Please let me know if you have any tips or exercises I can work on… my trainer has 3 kids and another job outside of horses so I can only get her help about once a week, otherwise she’s too busy. It’s left me to try and figure out a lot of our problems on my own, so If you’d be able to help in any way it would be amazing!

Thank you, Dana!! I love how you talk about picking up on a rein and how it should connect with their feet (I think I feel that too)... could you do another video talking more about that while using a correction bit? I just moved my horse into a correction bit and I'm not sure how to use it and the things that I can do with it. I usually ride in a 3 piece ring snaffle and have shown him in a 2 piece snaffle shank DM lifter bit, which he used to like, but the last time I showed him... he chomped and chewed at the bit. So the next class I showed him in, I switched to a low port curb and the judge said he did better in it, but she thought that there was an even better bit for him... so I tried the correction bit the day after the show... and I think he might like it.. but I've never really ridden him with one.. or any of my horses with one except maybe a couple times or so. I just want to make sure that I'm not doing anything wrong when riding him. I am a Team Hokana member and have almost all of your DVD's... maybe you could also recommend something for me to watch from any of those? Thank you!!!

@akitaakita2 Okay haha... tell me how this horse is going to be lame. This is simply refined collection. How about you take your anger for abused horses to the TWH that are paded. Look it up on you tube... try 2011 Mississippi Charity Horse Show - Walking Horse Championship Stake Canter You will agree with me that there are other things you should be worring about besides good training.
