I made a Hunter Star quilt using Deb Tucker's ruler and I can understand this is a very difficult pattern but well worth the process .Your fabric is beautiful and I enjoyed your teaching method .

Why do you press open instead of to the dark?
@Carlaklop8 ай бұрын
If you sew a long seam and press both to one side, the seam will have a curve. You can correct by pressing in the other direction with the next strip, but then you have 2 curved seams going in different directions. If you press open, the seams are both straight and flat. This makes it much more accurate to position your long ruler to cut the rows. Hope that helps

Yesterday I bought the Short Cut Sheet PDF Binder. Last night I did your seam test to set up my machine. I love geometric patchwork but haven't done a lot since I didn't have triangle rulers and doing HST's more than 2 at a time took too long. Once I finish my current quilt I plan to tackle all the star patterns that I haven't done yet. You are wonderful. Thank you for sharing these tools.

Hi in the short cut sheet for QSTs, can you explain the Step 1 Calculations? Is this the step to calculate how many units you’re need for any quilt or just for a quilt with QSTs in the block? Thanks

I highly recommend buying the Shortcut Sheets binder! This just made sewing so much easier and faster. I'm mind blown!!! Thanks Carla <3

This may be fast but please be aware, every single side of these are on the bias. Beginning quilters beware! Seasoned quilters know how to handle bias but it can be very frustrating for a beginner quilter when those blocks go wonky. Try starching your fabrics first.
@Carlaklop Жыл бұрын
Yes, these are bias units, but they are small and easy to sew together without any stretch. Unconventional, but they work, even for beginners.
@lw984 Жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but doesn't every side end up on the bias?
@Carlaklop Жыл бұрын
yes, all my methods end up with bias units. I don't have a problem with them as they are already pressed and trimmed. They are small enough that when sewing units together, stretching isn't an issue. Yes, this is breaking the 'rules'. Unconventional but it works.

@Carlaklop Жыл бұрын
I understand your comment. However, all the waste is around the outside of the sheet and triangles are big enough to use somewhere else if that is what you like to do. There are often extra units though. Arguments for both. thanks for your feedback.
