Elina Charatsidou

Hey guys, it’s Elina, your friendly nuclear physicist 👩🏽‍🔬 ☢️ Nuclear physics shouldn't have to be all doom and gloom. My job is to make it understandable, fun and exciting!

On my channel, I dive into three interesting categories EXPLAINS, DEBUNKS and REACTS. There I create content explaining nuclear physics facts, debunking myths around the nuclear industry and reacting to movies, series, cartoons and videos related to nuclear physics.

Welcome aboard this fun and informative adventure!

If my memory serves correctly, the "rule of thumb" has been debunked, as it's prevailing winds, not the size of the initial cloud that you need to worry about. Regarding the distance of the first blast. First light occurs at about 73 seconds prior to the glass shattering. Assuming a constant of 343 meters per second, or 1125.33 feet per second, the blast wave originated at a point approximately 13.66 miles (21.99kM) from the house. I think, with this one specific aspect of physics, the showrunners actually did their best to depict it realistically. I can't say for certain if the location for the start of the show was exactly 13.66 miles from where that first nuke went off. But from photos I've seen taken about 15 miles from downtown LA, the perspective from the starting location seems to fit that distance pretty well. I am not a physicist, however. Let alone one trained on nuclear weapons physics. So take everything I say with a grain of potassium iodide...

XD I watched the show before I played the game, so I also was like why on earth are you stabbing yourself when she used the stimpack haha. Can't wait for more episodes of the react series, and more of you playing the game!!

The authorities offered generous cash incentives to those willing to go in to clear up the mess. This is at odds with the socialist dogma that money belongs to the state and private property is despised. At the end of the day they know that people are incentivised by material reward.

Where I grew up, THE FIRST useful reactor was built to prove the viablilty of the SECOND useful reactor that went into the Nautilus, which was the first nuclear submarine. This first one was at Shippingport, PA, It began operation in May of 1958 and ran about 25 years until it was the first reactor that was deconstructed and during the 1980's, it was relocated to the Hanford Reservation. This location is still in use as the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station Units #1 & #2. I just participated in the NRC mandated semi-annual Plume Drill for that plant last week.

Just a little info about the vaults in case you're interested, all of them are difderent, some are like Lucy's (civil) and in some others the company that created them conducted sociological, biological and psychological non consensual experiments and studies.

Honestly, with her liberal use of gun bashing and decent special stats for it, she might just want to go for a melee weapons build. Without spending any perk points on base stats, she has access to basically all of the important strength perks even if she didn't max it out, and Science! is great for melee weapon upgrades. Endurance was also a great choice to put points into, and she has just enough Perception for the Locksmith perk. Honestly, not bad for someone who's never played Fallout 4 before, and has no frame of reference for what the stats actually do in practice. Only notes, I'd definitely recommend first person perspective when using guns because the camera control tends to be better, and I'm pretty sure you can't aim down sights in third person. For melee, first or third person view is up to preference, really. I think there are some moves you can only do in third person for melee, but I think those might be hand-to-hand only. And Hand-to-hand is... well, it's a choice, but not one I'd make, personally, even with weapons like the Power Fist. Not sure if the series is still going, but if it is, I highly recommend trying out melee, especially for a new player who's still getting used to the controls. Melee has a pretty generous hitbox, so you can practice precision aiming after looking around feels a bit more natural. Don't forget to check out the weapons workbench! Most settlements like Sanctuary and the Red Rocket will have one from the start, and they can be used to make weapon modifications for just about any weapon in the game. And with perks like Science! and Gun Nut, it really translates those points in intelligence into damage. Oh, and do keep an eye out for Vault Boy bobbleheads - you can find one in the Museum of Freedom in the room where you meet Preston and Sturges. I think you might find that they're worth the effort to seek out. 😉

Hi. An old sci-fi series, Space 1999, has been playing live on KZread for the past few weeks. The first episode features a disaster that involves 'magnetic radiation' and risks of dumping radioactive waste on the Moon. If you ever check out the episode (entitled Breakaway), please give your thoughts about it.

It’s a shame that we haven’t taken advantage of nuclear for more than we have. People were so indoctrinated to fear the N word for so long that they would refuse NMRI scans even if it could significantly increase their chances of treatment and survival of disease. So much so they had to remove the word nuclear and shorten it to magnetic resonance imaging.

Fallout 4 is a great example of a game that, while it was theoretically made to be ported to consoles, clearly suffers for it in the controls. It's far faster and intuitive to play it with a mouse and keyboard setup. I noticed the same thing when I watch let's players posting videos of them playing Baldur's Gate III on consoles. Yes, Larian did their best to modify the control systems for the different platforms (and did a far better job than Bethesda did with Fallout 4), but it's still a massive downgrade in efficiency.

Between 9 hours work day 40 hours a week and 1 hour traveling between home and work the time I have is to spend with my kids. How the hell you have the time to make KZread videos ? Well that was painful to watch in places. :))...Still, not bad for a newbie. I recently started playing Fallout 4 again after a long absence, and I'm thoroughly enjoying my second playthrough. I'm on PC and use mods and as a result have some pretty well developed outposts by now. My Sanctuary Hills is basically a wooden fortress with a junk fence perimeter completely surrounding it, with crenellations and MG turrets every few yards. Even got mods to deliberately create attacks in large numbers just to test my defences. Had 150 Supermutants attack The Castle (Minuteman fortress and player outpost mid-game) just for laughs. Left a massive pile of Supermutant corpses. Lots of fun. :)

Do people not understand the concept of slow motion? When Cooper is watching the first explosion it's in slow motion, he's only actually standing there for a few seconds before the blast wave hits them.

And still - there is not solution to the waste problems. The economics remains abysmal and will never come close to breaking even with wind, solar or geothermal. The waste costs and decommissioning will be foisted off on the public. And to minimize costs the waste will be handled, and buried in the least safe way that it can possibly be. Plus the catastrophe hazards remain nation busters.

The other show I know of which starts with an episode titled "The End" is Red Dwarf, so your theory holds up. That's also a show where lots of people are killed by radiation and a handful of survivors emerge afterward.
