Similar experience to me. I think the main issue is that the course is just not a good intro to drawing if you dont know anything yet. Feeling like you need to slave away at 250 boxes before getting to interesting stuff is just stupid. I think its much better to build up a base of skills, like obersvational drawing or something, that you can learn fairly quickly, so you at least have something to fall back on while doing drawabox. People who are learning to draw want to get right in and draw cool things, or at least try to, and drawabox wont have you doing that. I plan on spending at least a few months of observational drawing learning and practice before I touch drawabox again. And when i do go through it, instead of feeling like I'd need to finish the whole thing in 6 months, I'd just go slowly and do it on the side, slowly chipping away at it, while at least having fun and improving with drawing in other areas.

@InnermanArts11 күн бұрын
From wat im seeing, Frunsi is a standalone tablet meaning you don't have to hook it up to another computer. So I don't think u need to follow this process.

This is a very good way of practicing. Many people believe you shouldnt trace what so ever, but the reality is that tracing CAN help a lot if you make sure to learn from the reference. Building a good "catalogue" of angles and images in your head can help tremendously. What really made it click for me was thinking in 3D. But overall, good job man, keep going!

I usually never comment on anything but this DESERVES my unwanted opinion and experience. NEW ARTISTS PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS "ADVICE." REFERENCE IS A MUST! If you are drawing without reference you are replying on your construed memory and and distorted understanding of shape language and visual composition. The goal of reference is to train your mind and eye you understand how, in the real world, the shapes and values in the world work together. As an artist you are allowed and encouraged to break those rules BUT YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THEM FIRST BY LOOKING AT THE REAL THING. The only time you shouldn't uses reference is when you DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO IT. Of course if you don't use reference you'll be spam ctl-zing because you don't have confidence in any of your shapes and lines because your mental memory bank and understanding of efficient lines is STARVED. Use reference to train your hand and mind. Delete your lines if you don't like them but understand why they don't actually work the way you want them to. ...I won't even talk about the wrong layer issue 😮💨
