Really enjoy these videos! I have two suggestions, have you considered splitting it in 2 parts? I like the videos but hour long videos scares me. It would be interesting to see how she would do in moving but without googling. Not sure it would be enough of a handicap if you'd play nmpz, but maybe with a harsh time limit or even blink?

Little tip: put a low cut filter on your audio. Whenever you're typing it sounds like thunder.

Your sister using all the correct words to search for a flag and then being bombarded with "Ireland" left and right is one of the many reasons why Bing isn't there just yet.

wonderful! writing with a great smile. glad this is back. you guys keeping it real! fun and uplifting to watch healthy dynamics between brother and sister. she's a natural. what Jake doesn't tell you: His sister just changed her field of study to geography and is only one more challenge away for lining up the roads herself! watch out for the comeback ✨

the rings should be more translucent so you can actually still see the entire map, that would frustrate me if I tried this.

Ohooooo ... the struggle in Spain to transfer the marker from the website to the geoguessr map was tough to watch. I will never understand how some people operate and not instantly go "Approx. the latitude of Madrid, 3/4ths to the west, okay got it." I know, people think in different ways but i will never understand. Unlucky. On finland she zoomed in like a pro tho.

When I saw the location for round 3 in the second game, I immediately recognised it as the UK. (It helps to have lived there for almost four decades) I also knew that the railway could only be one of 3 lines as it was rural, powered by catenary and had 4 tracks: The Great Western Mainline between London and Didcot, the West Coast Mainline between London and Crewe (although there is a section that's only 2 tracks just South of Stafford) and the East Coast Main Line between London and the North East. (There are quite a few places where that line isn't 4 tracks and providing details would be tedious, even for a pedant like me.) Update: While typing this out I remembered that the Midland Mainline between London and Bedford would also fit all of the criteria I mentioned above.

Thinking about it, using the compass and the terrain would eliminate most of those as that section of the GWML runs generally east-west except where it runs alongside the River Thames as it cuts through the Chiltern Hills and those sections of the WCML and MML run through more rolling country than there was at that location. This leaves just the ECML which has most of its 4 track sections South of Grantham and around York. It turned out to be the latter of those options.

Part of me is surprised she didn't pick up on Ventspils in her search while she did pick up on Suomussalmi. That might just speak to my level of geographic knowledge, though. I believe the reason was that "Ventspillī" was in a title she didn't pay much attention to for some reason, while the other place name followed a comma in the way one would say what town a given smaller place is located in a few results. Regardless, she was close to a win throughout until that Anna fiasco.

That was very entertaining. It would be even more entertaining if she knew the basics of google maps. Like a compass. Looking south into Belgrade she plonked south of Belgrade. Or that the flag button brings you back to the start which she can do if she gets lost. And what top level domains are (literally dot LV domains on the websites) and that there are other scripts than Roman :D It would make for a fairer matchup and she wouldn't feel so much like a fish outta water. Needless to say, just like with Rory and his gf, your content with your sister is by far the most fun and needs to be a constant on the channel. Once a month if she's down would be goated.

She’s super unfamiliar with the game in general, and I think those are all very understandable mistakes to make, but I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to have given her a few tips up front!

Love the noob vs pro/1 vs 100 etc. (And lov your sister). BUT. In typical geoguessr vids; you start off against a "weak" opponent, and give them odds, then when they RRRRRREALLY cant beat you, you give your self worse odds by switching from NM to NMPZ etc. BUT. you beat your sister the first round, and then gave yourself better odds next round (by going NM to M)= Weird take IMHO. feels like a show off in stead of a fun vid :) Just a friendly take on a friendly vid :)

  • @jakelyonsgeo

Yeah I’m not totally sure what we were thinking there (time limit was stricter at least), but at least it made no real difference in the end 🤷‍♂️ next time we could definitely try NMPZ or something
