    Thanks for watching. Yes, they did, A kit that falls short of what it could have been and should have. I posted a series of videos showing 'my build' which involved a lots of customisation to make it more accurate. This involves chopping most of the hull, replacing and sctatch-building interior details and adding figures. images.app.goo.gl/wv2G6jeuQQF8vGh77 There are a few modules.in this series that have subsequently made as kits - either mainstream or limited run garage kits. Some good. Some not so good. These videos imagine kits that I wish had been available when I first the films or TV shows... . Either the original release or in many cases seeing them on TV.

    As watching part 11 again I thought of some more kits. How about the spacecraft from George Pal's The Conquest of Space and the diving bell from Krakatoa also any of the guest space craft from Space 1999.

    I actually have a work in progress of 'The Wheel' from Conquest of Space. I haven't touched it in a while though. I think a kit of the Moon ship/Mars ship could be good too. And possibly a larger scale astronaut sled. I think there's a sort of shuttle craft too. This film is a fascinating snapshot of potential space travel.

    Since Catesby and the othet Gunpowder plotters (except Fawkes) dued in a burning barn,, Hammer could have finushed their version with their usual burn-up.

  • @Matteline
    @MattelineАй бұрын

    If someone did a film of the gunpowder plot, 'something' would have to get blown to pieces at the end. I had this notion that tunnels had been dug into the basement of Parliament... but through some rouse the tunnel actually lead to a different underground cellar. The bomb goes off as planned ... but somewhere else...Fawkes realises the scam and makes hi way to the real parliament cellar to blow that up... maybe with or two small barrels of gunpowder - all that he could carry - and he is caught red handed!

    Hey! Just out of the shower, I had an idea for your collection of What If Kits! About 15 years ago, the Top Gear guys (Hammond, May, Clarkeson, forgive me if I assume you're familiar with them) did a bit where they built a "Space Shuttle" out of a Robin Reliant. The video is on KZread, if you're not familiar with it (Top Gear Space Shuttle) I think their assembled "Shuttle" on the launch pad, would make a great Airfix kit! Ha! With luck, this will make you laugh as much as your videos have made us laugh.

    Excellent episode sir, but one issue. Really, the deep sea diver when you could do the phantom space man? That damn laugh still makes my skin crawl 50 years later!!!

  • @Matteline
    @MattelineАй бұрын

    Ahh, I had to look up he phantom space man and I remember him now, Yeh he was creepy! For me, the diver was the best choice doe to the luminous quality of his suit. Also the classic pose seen in the title sequence felt similar to the 'square' Aurora Wolfman box art. I was introduced o the Aurora boxes in the square boxes. I thought about the Amusemant Park robot - too sci-fi as a standalone image - and the green ghoulish guy from the first episode - too much like Frankenstein - so the diver just seemed like the right image to connect with the real Aurora monsters and also be instantly recognisble from the show.

  • @keithlocke2205
    @keithlocke2205Ай бұрын

    @@Matteline: Understandable. And far from a bad choice. Simply not my first choice for that. The square boxes were also my era for the monster kits, though I was never a huge fan. Always liked my airplanes and tanks better. My favorite, (And the only one I still keep thinking about building) is "The Forgotten prisoner of castle Mare' " Built that one twice as I recall! I also vaguely recall using the base from the Mummy as a diorama for a bunch of my Airfix vinyl 1/32 scale Desert rats! Regardless, keep up the good work.

    Interesting & entertaining as always. Ever thought about doing a few kits from "Red Dwarf"? - all versions of the main ship + various others? Your artwork alone would be spectacular, let-alone your "background/history" descriptions - although I admit that would be a LOT of work!

  • @Matteline
    @MattelineАй бұрын

    I am afraid I never really got into 'Red Dwarf'. I am aware of the Starbug and the enormous Red Dwarf ship itself. Were there other ships that would qualify for 'model kit status'?

  • @Heavy-Metal-Spike
    @Heavy-Metal-SpikeАй бұрын

    @@Matteline There were plenty of ships scattered throughout - the model-makers on the show were very talented (as were the designers). But if you are not a fan, it would be unfair to expect you to spend valuable time researching & painting. This is supposed to be fun for you as well as us so no worries 🙂

  • @checkpointcharlie1788
    @checkpointcharlie1788Ай бұрын

    Oh man, I'd be lining up for the model of the 'Batavia Queen'! As a kid I tried to convert one of my wooden sailing ships; I couldn't count how many times that ship rode out Krakatoa's fury. And the 'Time Machine', what a great kit that would be; and in typical Aurora fashion, on the base they could include the end table with the candle and the clock. And finally, yes, as a nine-year old, some episodes of Scooby-Doo actually bordered on slightly scary. The diver would be fantastic!

  • @Matteline
    @MattelineАй бұрын

    That sounds great. Did you make the diving bell too? Or the hot air balloon?

  • @checkpointcharlie1788
    @checkpointcharlie1788Ай бұрын

    @@Matteline I tried to make the balloon - a number of times - using string and a real balloon; it was tough, never quite worked right. I guess I never thought of making the diving bell, which would have been far easier! How about the movie 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' (1959) with James Mason; now that would yield some good 'Aurora' type figures. I sure wish they had made some of those. Or John Steed and Emma Peel from 'The Avengers', that too would have been a great 'Aurora' figure set. Your 'what if' model boxes and illustrations are unbelievably cool, amazingly well done, and fantastic choices to wish had been released!

  • @Matteline

    Interesting, How does it look? I think any kit of the Mothership is pretty well doomed as it is all about the lighting. It has such a distinct look from (I think) being shot in separate passes. The ship itself and several passes for the lighting, which was done in heavily fogged up studio. And all composited together. when you see the model itself with none of the lights switched on it looks almost complete different, a dark gray jagged mass. I guess some of the lights could be painted on.
