This short video outlines some basic modelling and research for a model of the un-named refinery that is seen exploding in the Opening Titles of the Gerry Anderson TV series 'Thunderbirds'.
This was made for a friend intended as part of a training series on Special Effects Photography where this model too would explode. This did not happen, but some of the models were used in the production of a short promo film for a proposed TV series called 'Mob Street'.

Its fascinating looking through the videos seeing parts of different model kits appear as texturing on vehicles or parts of scenery. Same for model replications of Star Wars craft where you can spot bits of old WW2 vehicle model kits on them.

Yes. 'Star Wars', '2001: A Space Odyssey', 'Alien' and 'Outland' are all big kit part movies. 'Space :1999'TV and 'Battlestar Galactica' . There's an Italian made Sci-Fi movie made in the wake of 'Star Wars' starring Caroline Munro called 'StarCrash', njoyable junk. They used loads of kit parts on the ships and they are so obvious! A great example showing it is not that simple...
That's really cool! Well done

Thank you! Cheers!
It always amused me as a child that they had built this model set just to blow it up! It never appeared in any episode.

@@Matteline When Lew Grade of ATV had watched the pilot episode he said "You haven't made a TV show, you've made a feature film!" and told them to go back and remake it at twice the length.

One building was the black rock laboratory from supercar.
I love your channel Matt- you always make my day when you put something out. Your enthusiasm is inspiring! Your models are probably better built than the originals were!

Yes. The octagonal.buildong I mention is the Supercar lab. I didn't realise this when I did the video(or built the model). And it's curved,, not angled like I did it..
I think I saw on a Fab Fact that they used the Black Rock lab from Supercar somewhere .

It's on the right hand side...in the background. I had to look really hard to find it.
