I discovered your triad videos 4 or 5 years ago and have now had your book for years. Not sure if I've ever left a comment but I come back to your videos every once and a while. Out of the thousands of guitar videos I've watched, yours have been the most important. Like serious game changer. Now I know all my diatonic triads in all inversions on all stringsets. It's taught me intervals. It's taught me how to categorize any pattern I see on the guitar (to learn songs easier). It's given me way more creative ideas. It's allowed me to create awesome chord melodies now that I can voice lead. When you know every interval of these chords, you can raise or lower all the different combinations to get so many cool variations that are still diatonic. I can see the chromatic voice leading relationships now in order to connect diatonic chords using different diminished or augmented chords. I can see how secondary dominants really work now. I can add other available notes to get some cool slash chord ideas. I can add any inversion from any parallel mode to get some cool new progressions. Currently working on being able to voice lead to triads from every key as well as voice leading in a similar way using different drop voicings. Oh and I need to practice all my spread triad inversions because those are beautiful!

Thanks for a great lesson! Fun way to practice all the diatonic chords in a key whilst making it melodic and not boring. I am however a little bit confused as to why you chose the Harmonic Minor. Sorry to say, but it's not really obvious to me as to why it makes so much sense to raise the G. My best guess is you just want that leading tone to be more prominent? Haven't checked just yet, but I guess you could go wild with this method with all of the modes as well. Thanks again!
@davidbeckertribune6074 ай бұрын
Thank you! To answer your question about the relative minor: In order to have a Dominant 7 chord for the V chord in the minor key, you have to raise the G to G#. This gives you E7 instead of Em7, so you wind up with the Harmonic minor instead of the natural minor. I hope this clarifies things for you!
@roolkit27084 ай бұрын
So if I'm in B major and let's lower the 1st instead of raising with the 5th. It would look something like: Bmaj7 (I) - F#7 (V7) - C#min7 (ii) - G#min7 (vi) - D#min7 (iii) - A#m7b5 (viiø) - Emaj7 (IV) My Relative/parallel Minor would be G#, and my 5th chord (Eb) is my dominant so I will make an Eb7, which will make my 7th raised to a F## (damn, that's crazy). And then I would play something like AmM7 - E7 - Bm7b5 - Fmaj7 - Cmaj7#5 - G#dim7 -Dmin7 . Please let me know if I'm on the right track!

I like DBT. I like ebow, but its rare to hear ebow. I don't know why (I don't play): maybe its infinite sustain makes it limiting to single string melodies? I first heard it by Stuart Adamson on the introduction to Big Country songs like The Storm, Lost Patrol, Restless Natives, Margo's Theme, Eiledon, One In A Million & I Am A Small Republic: seemed very effective for "Celtic rock"! But it's very rare to hear. I'd like to hear more. Ponty may have had a similar infinite sustain effect on some of his electric violin playing ("Plastic Idols"?) but I can't remember now
