    I'm going to check out the SLO-100. I use the MX5 with a Mesa 1x12 cab and an OwnHamer cab sim. A lot of the time, it sounds good at home, but bad at gigs, very thin and sh!tty, esp if I take an output to the PA even with the ca sim. Also, the whole thing of having to use 2 of the same amps to switch between clean & dirty without lag has become a hassle, and the levels never really match. Maybe I need to just use a clean amp and a couple of these overdrives as you show here. Thanks!!

    Does the Mx5 not have already a "freeze" pedal, called hold among the available effects?

    Maybe a bbd (bucket brigade delay) supposed to work that way? You should have compared it with the analog and digital delays on the same pedal to compare it.

    I have the MX5 as well. Would you sill need to have an amp active in your rig when using an external overdrive? Would be nice to just have a clean fender twin, etc in the rig and use an external drive to go from clean to dirty. This also would eliminate the known delay in any of these modelers when switching from a clean to dirty amp.

  • @DaveBode
    @DaveBode8 ай бұрын

    You don't need to have an amp. When I had the MX5 I did not notice any delay switching between 2 amps. You have to have 2 separate amp blocks for gapless switching. If you switch the amp via the preset fuction with a scene, there will be a gap.

  • @sbrave
    @sbrave8 ай бұрын

    I have a scene with 2 Soldano amps, 1 clean & 1 dirty. Only one is ever on, but when I switch off the clean and enable the dirty, via a scene change, I definitely hear a gap/delay. Am I missing something? Thx!@@DaveBode

  • @DaveBode
    @DaveBode8 ай бұрын

    @@sbrave I don't have my MX5 anymore but I do not recall a gap in switching on and off amp blocks unless some other effect is switching a preset within the scenes function. Any block preset change via scenes will cause a gap.

  • @sbrave
    @sbrave8 ай бұрын

    @@DaveBode Actually....there's an overdrive block that gets kicked on in the dirty scene, as well as the dirty amp. When I took it out, the gap is gone. I'll fool around with some amp settings to see if I can just use that overdrive block for solos, etc. Thanks man!!

    Hello, I am a newbie as a guitarist and I have acquired a headrsuh mx5, total disappointment (perhaps because I am very new), my headrush I don't know if it is defective :D but it doesn't sound good, the bass sounds terrible, it lengthens, and very low I try to equalize but nothing helps, I suppose it's a configuration thing, but I can't know or find a place to configure it in a standard way, could you tell me a tutorial that would help, I've searched on KZread but nothing helps me, thanks for your video.

    Here is a link to my last backup of the MX5 with all my patches. Download it and copy over some of the patches to your MX5 (drive.google.com/file/d/1qQuI__l4abUlhopzZMUza5Dm-n8uMHgV/view?usp=sharing) One thing that will help is registering your pedal and downloading the free Celestion IRs (celestionplus.com/redeem-serial). There are download and installation instructions here (kzread.info/dash/bejne/i6Z6ms6eere2abQ.html). For any of my rigs that have missing IRs, load one of those selection IRs. If you still think they sound terrible, it is likely either your monitoring setup or your guitar. You should be using something fairly neutral to monitor the MX5 like basic studio monitors or decent headphones. If your guitar sounds terrible, try a different guitar. If you find that the rigs sound much better with a different guitar, you might be able to put an EQ as the first block and adjust the frequency response of your own guitar on all the rigs. If that's the case, EQ it to sound better, save the EQ as a preset, and re-arrange all the rigs to have that EQ as the first block. It is important to correct your guitar's frequency response with an EQ on the first block!

    Dave, I cannot express enough how important your videos were for my journey in the amp modelers world. I started with MX5 a few months back and was completely overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge required to set it up properly to make it sound as you need it. I wanted to give up and send the headrush back being convinced there is something wrong with unit and not my skills... a typical newbie mistake - looking back from the perspective. Even though I still have a lot to learn I feel like I am 10 levels higher then I was. Having said that I watched probably all of the videos available on YT regarding different modelers. But there were none that gave me so much understanding on how different effects work, not only in isolation but also together and how they affect each other. You knowledge about sound and sound waves in just priceless. And seeing you being distracted by a drone flying "in f sharp" in one of the vides was one of the funniest things proving you really feel sounds around you.

    @@DaveBode whats the difference between putting it in the cabinet or the amp?

  • @DaveBode
    @DaveBode8 ай бұрын

    @@jakedemetrius_official The MX5 has a cabinet modeler block and an IR block. I think the best sounds come from using the built in amp modeling and going into an IR block. Then putting stereo delay and reverb after the IR block. That way you maintain the stereo imaging of the time effects. This video was showing the idea of not using amp models in the MX5 to get some diffrerent distorted/overdriven guitar sounds. That said, I usually always used an amp model for all of my patches.

  • @DaveBode

    If you are thinking of getting one, I have good news! I am selling mine with all my patches. It’s a great place to start because the stock patches are more or less useless. If you are interested, I’ll send you the listing. And yes, running direct is a great way to go. Lower stage volume makes everything sound better. As long as the PA is loud enough you are good to go. It’s never been a problem for me and all my patches need minimal EQ since I EQ almost all of them on studio monitors.
