👋🏽 My name is Escarla ✨
This is my little crafty corner of the universe where I document my making and have lots of fun.
I'm a full-time artist + multidisciplinary maker. I am classically trained in fashion design (high school) and I have a BFA in computer art/3D.
I was born and raised in New York City and moved to a cute little artsy city in PA a couple years ago to finally live the slow-paced, magical lifestyle of my dreams. I work from home as a digital creative.
You'll find I'm always eager to learn and explore various forms of art. For the past few years, that's mostly been knitting, spinning, and crocheting.
New videos every week (currently every Thursday evening).

I see your Nuts. Nuts the squirrel, that is XD
when i saw how much you put into the intro to this video i hit SUBSCRIBE! this video was 🎉
Nicely done video! Thank you.
You could try putting your hand-knit cotton tops in the dryer to shrink them a bit. You can put them in for 10 minutes at a time and see how it goes!
Can’t wait to see your baby knits. 😊🧶
💖 I will definitely share
Hi Escarla! It's so great to see you. I love your videos and I'm so excited for you and your partner and coming addition! ♡ all the love
Thank you so much, that’s so sweet 💖 lots of love to you too, thanks for watching 😊
We have four Shetland/Hebridean cross sheep on our smallholding. I started knitting last year but I've never spun before. We just had the sheep sheared and two of the fleeces are only fit for mulch but the other two look pretty good - one black, the other moorit with blaeget markings. I've been thinking about having a go at spinning for a while and a friend has lent me one of her spinning wheels so I'm going to give it a try. I'm not sure where I'll find the time but I suppose I'll squeeze it in somehow! I'm thinking about socks maybe, if the wool is hardwearing enough? Otherwise, maybe a shawl of some sort? Hmm ...
Hey! When weighing you have to count the washingbag you weighed it in before too. Weighing after washing you forgot to count that in so that 60gr is probably mostly that bag is my guess
Yes!! I was more of stickler with my first few fleeces but I don’t consider the bag weight much. They’re incredibly light.
I love your videos! Your aesthetic and knitting is amazing!
Thank you so much 💖
This is super helpful! Can't wait to dive into the videos linked below your own to learn more about the history of shetlands especially. We bought four shetlands last year, and between them and the finn sheep raw fleece I picked up at a fiber festival a few weeks ago, I now have 5 bags of raw wool sitting in my study, staring me in the face.... LOL. Great to see an instructional video specifically about shetland fleece processing --- and helpful too to know you've only done this a few times and yet you already have a good sense of confidence about what you're doing. Makes me feel like it's okay for me to jump in and get going!
Wow that’s a lot of fleece to process! Maybe send some to a mill if it gets too stressful. Thank you for watching, I’m glad my video can be of help. You got this 🐑💪🏽
So many pretty, fibery things! 😍 You are a stronger woman than I, keeping to your no-buy goals. Great job and thank you for sharing! ❤ Fun fact: I used to be a block clerk (the person who writes who bought what) at 2 different auctions. Auctions move quickly! 😄 My advice, if you ever decide you want to buy something from one, is to sit in the auction audience for awhile and get acclimated to how fast everyone is speaking, what the auctioneer does to acknowledge bids (because each one is different), etc...before you get ready to bid on things. It really does help you understand everything that's happening so you can make the best purchase for yourself. 😊
Thank you! That’s so helpful to know. Maybe I will be brave enough to try and get a drum carder at auction 🤞🏽
I didn’t finish my sweater for the BHM craftavism MAL either. I have to frog my bottom ribbing. I joined a new ball of yarn and it is a different shade. Ugh! So is the neckline. I’ll fix it later this summer and make it for the yearlong sweater MAL. It is what it is. 😊 #knittinglife 🧶
Congratulations 🥰 The baby blanket is absolutely beautiful!
Funny story, my seven year old son thought we were going to a “sheep and wolf festival”
Hahaha now that’s a festival I would love to attend 😂
@@escarla he was concerned about the sheep getting eaten lol
We went this year! I’ve been probably three times in the 15 years I’ve lived in Maryland. This time was tough because I had both kids with me and it was wet and cold with rain
I just discovered your channel. I like your calm and down to earth style. It great to hear your about your crafting journey and activities.
Thank you so much 🥹💖
From Gerry- I go every year on Sunday. I live across the river from Harrisburg, PA. It takes me 1.5 hours, too. There were not as many wheels and looms to look at this year. I did buy some shuttles and some sheep fabric and of course a lamb sausage sandwich. God bless.
I’ll have to give a Sunday a shot. I’d assume it would be a little more calm. Sounds like you had a great time!
That sheep wall was amazing. Rhinebeck should adopt that practice. Also your willpower is incredible. I’m impressed that you managed not to buy for yourself.
Right!? It’s so helpful, picking a fleece could be very overwhelming and it’s so nice to see all the breeds at glance. Thank you 💪🏽 I tried very hard not to buy anything 😅
Thanks for sharing. The sheep were so cute! 🧶 Crowds are overwhelming for me too.
The sheep made it worth it lol 😍
I flew out from Wisconsin to go with my daughter who only lived an hour away from the festival.
Ooo must’ve been a wonderful weekend 💕
TU for sharing, I love the sheep &wool festival. But not able to attend anymore. But enjoying everyone’s viedoes ❤❤❤
Yay! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊
When I lived in MD I used to go every year. I loved the dog shepherd stuff and when my daughter was younger, she did too. Seeing these recaps makes me miss it! There is nothing comparable where I live now.
That must’ve been such a sweet tradition. I hope you get to live vicariously through the recap 😊
I call MDSW my Super Bowl!
Haha I love that!
Agree with you on the crowds! I’m working on my recap too and it really seemed like less people, yet more crowded at the same time, since everyone was indoors. The lambs are always my favorite part ❤
Ohhh I’ll have to check yours out! That’s so true i didn’t think of that. The booths felt so crowded like rhinebeck but yea everyone was avoiding the rain. I wish there were more places to take shelter. Hehe the lambs are THE BEST 🥹
I was at the festival last weekend but didn’t go inside for personal reasons. It was very cold for me, which didn’t make it enjoyable. My knitting buddy did go inside the fairgrounds and went to her usual vendors besides Thread and Maple from Canada. They had a show special that was not meant to be missed. I have attended the festival since the late 1990s and believe me my craft room is an appendage of a yarn shop, so I only attend it to socialize with fellow knitters. This year it was too muddy and cold. I now attend festivals in Europe so I get to meet new vendors, yarns and knitters. Glad you had a great time despite the weather!❤
It was so cold and muddy. I completely forgot to mention the mud. I would love to attend a show in Europe I would definitely find it a lot more enjoyable with so much more to explore. I’m mostly an online shopper so it’s nice to see some yarn in person but being on a yarn ban made it a bit of pointless trip 😂
Thank you so much for the wonderful video - and I also have to say that yours is, unless I'm mistaken on the design, the first Geogradient that I have really liked!! Beautiful work!
Thank you for watching 💖
My tip for you is to sleep when the baby sleeps as hard as it will be to accomplish. Take care of yourself, maintain your eating schedule and just relax and enjoy it all. The time goes by much too quickly.
Whoooaa what??!! Congratulations!!! 🎉🍾
Congratulations!! 🎉❤ excited to see all the adorable baby knits that you plan to make! 🥹
TY!! So many to come!!!
Congratulations on the happy news! Sending positive thoughts for you and your baby's health! I'm a mom of 3 (3, 5 & 6yo) and would just suggest listening to your body and taking time for yourself when you can
Thank you!!! 🙏🏽
Congrats on your new addition! I don't have any babies but allllll of my friends do and as a friend of many moms I will say don't forget about your friends and please ask for help if you need it. Being a new parent even with a partner is really overwhelming (I imagine). We are here for you and for the child-less friends we won't know what you need if you don't tell us. A good friend will be down to being you soup or a hug or just watch baby sleep so you and dad can sleep. Don't underestimate your community. <3
Thank you!! That’s great advice 💕
Congratulations!! 🎉
Congrats on your news. Sending love.🙂
My as a mom tips are: do what you are comfortable with, listen to your instincts. Also baby wipes everywhere for always. And always have a well stocked to go bag. And lastly most ppl are rude, be prepared to be a juggling boss babe at doors. ❤ congratulations 🎉
Thank you for the tips!! Baby wipes FTW!!
❤
Yayy! Congratulations! Wishing you all the best!!
Thank you so much!!
Congrats! 🎉 Also, thanks for talking about fibroids. 💜
💕💖💕
Aaaaa congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
Congratulations!!! I was wondering what the surprise was ! Don’t apologize u doing a cool human process. 🎉
Thank you!!!! 💖😁🐣✨
Congratulations
Congratulations! One advice from a mom whose baby is graduating this year. Enjoy every moment, they grow up fast
Aww I certainly will! Thank you 💖💖
Congratulations! And, don’t worry, nobody knows what they are doing when it comes to children, unless they don’t have them.
Haha facts. Thank you!!!
Escarla, big congrats on the baby news! That is terrific! I am post-menopausal now, but I had my one and only daughter at age 31 and. like you, had reoccurring big fibroids. All I can tell you is you are making a wise decision to have the baby or babies as soon as you can. Anyway, I feel for you. Having big fibroids and endomysterosis does suck. Been there, done that. You are doing all the right things. The blanket is gorgeous, how classic! Love the color and the little bootie socks are darling! Don't worry about the time span of your videos. On my youtube, I often take 2-3 weeks between episodes. We'll be delighted whenever you upload podcasts. Take care of yourself and baby boy! I am so impressed with the baby items you've made.
Thank you so much! I’m sorry you’ve had to also deal with fibroids but it’s great to hear from someone who went through something similar 💕 appreciate you!!
Congratulations!!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Mom tip... As long as you do it with love, you will do it right!!!😊 There are no rules! 😂😂
THANK YOU! I love that 💕
Congratulations!! So excitinggggg! You seem so humble and genuine, I love your channel!! Greetings from France ❤
Thank you so much!! 😊💖
Congratulations!!! What beautiful news. I pray everything goes well for you and baby all the way through labor and delivery. ❤ When I was pregnant with my daughter (my first), I had whack dreams including one that she would just fall out of me while I was doing basic things around the house. Wut? 😂 I look back at those weird dreams and just laugh at what a strange time that was.
Thank you so much 🙏🏽💙 Hahaha that’s pretty crazy. The subconscious is such wild territory 🤣
Happy news!! Yay!
💙💙
Congratulations!! You’re gonna be the best parent. You are so strong for taking all of the lemons life has thrown at you and making lemonade. Sending all the good vibes your way. I had a sweet baby boy last year, while I was pregnant, I had the craziest most vivid dreams.
Thank you 😊 I think that’s the best way to handle life’s little mishaps. Appreciate it 🧡 How sweet!! Hope he’s thriving, haha glad it’s not just me
