It's a classic, no doubt. My father gave it to me as a teenager for hunts in Wyoming. Being from Indiana, where centerfire rifles are not allowed for hunting, it was a quick appreciation. After arriving one year for a hunt in Wyoming and the scope was off, I decided to go with peep sights. It was an instant win for appeal and functionality.

I liked your video.....forcing a mag inside a gun is never a good idea, keeps too much tension on everything....best to leave the slide open insert the mag then close the slide....as for the jams with hollow points i am not surprised one bit.......that happens sometimes with 1911's they were designed for ball ammo and since these are clones of service guns they are finicky with anything but FMJ....i have Sistemas Argentine 1911 in 45 ACP made in 1953 and it hates hollow points.....but loves FMJ what is was designed to shoot....just an observation.....

In '60's used these at school in the Cadet Corp. The magazine is never taken out except to clean. Loading it while in the rifle is much easier. Might be able to source some 5 round stripper clips too. Cycling the action, hold bolt ball between thumb and fore finger, knuckles up like a fist and ride in one motion smoothly against the tension. Like you are instinctively doing at the end of the vid. Gets better with practice and very fast.

I just picked one up Tuesday of this week! Looking forward to hitting the range. Its been about 23 years since my previous FN MkIII Hi Power…. That I had to do to it, what just comes standard with the SA-35. As in disconnect the mag safety, and install the Cylinder & Slide shop “No Bite” commander style hammer…. A Hi Power spur type hammer eats the web of my hand! Same with a G.I. 1911 ( thank goodness for beaver tail grip safetys.)

good shooting and a good group at 160 yards. Ist it a two or five groove barrel ?

I have to agree with @Libertytree257 very good info, have a look at the s/number on the bottom of the mag and see if it is the same as the rifle and they often part company with the right gun, If you are going to talk toe the camera foe as long as you did with ten rond in the mag and the weight of the rifle you are already tired before you shoot, looks a good rifle. I have to ask why a strange range of 160 yards?

  • @dirtydan8342

Hello Nova, thanks for the comment. The 60 yard range is my pistol range shown in this video. I have a rifle range but it's setup for shooting from a bench. I didn't want to shoot this rifle from the bench.

Try an old stock mag and it will be perfect function. The after market ones have that problem

Thank you for this feedback. I think the mag works well. It's more about user training. I thought since I've shot many bolt actions, I knew how to operate this one but that was a mistake. Nothing better than learning a new firearm and walking away a better and more respectful shooter.

I like the plastic grips. Wood is nice, but plastic means that I don't have to worry about messing them up. Plus, they are thinner and give great purchase (grip). Which is why the military went with them. They are very particular, you know?

  • @brianbridle951

"Iron sights", inmy military service they were "battle sights" (close range 250yds) the fold down with the vernier adjustment allowed greater accuracy when you had more time. You could load 10 but the norm was 5 with one in the chamber (in the hopes that after 5 shots the enemy would think your out and raise up enough for a kill.) You should be able to do 6 in 10secs and still hit the body.

It never fails to amaze me that people continue to put up 'review' videos of firearms that they clearly know very little about. An element of research before the camera starts rolling wouldn't go amiss.

Is the bolt assembly numbers the same as the rifle , as not the right mag is the main reason you're having problems, I have fired the SMLE many times never had a miss fire, you should be using stripper clips, and not removing the mag it might help

What can I say ,,number 1 your not using the bolt right you angle to the bolt as high as it go's your not doing that ,2 your sights aren't zero.'d in properly you zero it on a 100 meter range when your target shooting set your sights to 300mtrs

Now that looks like a darn fine example of the .303 Enfield! Keep her safe, brother. (Yup! For your own rifle, brass last a lot longer if you "Neck size" only. Don't full length resize UNLESS you absolutely must! We get 9 to 13 or so uses per case.)

At the tender age of 12 I was shooting these as a Sea Cadet, the range officer had us fold our berrets into our shoulder to buffer the brass butt plates. We used to use decommissioned rifles for rifle drill along with their bayonets. A great time in my life 😁 I'm 56 now 😢

I bought one yesterday. I only had time to run 75 rounds through it. No issues with feeding or extraction. I hope to get back out in a couple of days and run a lot more through it. I was only out at 10 yards and it seemed to shoot a little low and left. I'll know more the next time at the range. I did like shooting it though!

Back in the '70's, I bought a barreled action Ruger #1 in .30-06 and installed a Fajen 4A Greek Circcasian walnut stock that I built from scratch. Just the two rough pieces of wood cost me $180 back when that was a lot of money. Then I slowly hand checkered it myself. Total build time over 100 hours. Mounted a Leopold 3X9 scope on it and after glass bedding it, it shoots less than a minute of angle all day long (with custom handloads of course). It has got to be one of the most beautiful rifles I have ever seen with deep colour and grain that just gleams. You can't buy that type or quality of wood anymore as it's long gone. I don't think I will ever sell this one....

If I did not love my Beretta M9 so much, I would have gotten one of these. They have really nice trigger pulls and good design. SA did it right. The only thing I’d like to see is the lock for the slide to have more spring tension or force to snap it off and on for carrying cocked and locked. (Like my SA 1911 GI .45). What bullet weight and velocity do you get with that load? 9mm NATO or +p+ equivalent?
