    Our characters are shaped by our experiences, how we process those experiences and then remember them. Using the analogy of the battle between the good wolf and the bad wolf within all of us, we could discipline our minds to nurture, cultivate and let the good wolf win and thrive. #gratitude #awareness

    Great speech! I agree with this observation. Filipinos form a bond of sorts. Once we were in an airport lounge in Schiphol and the duty manager was a Filipina. When she saw our group she brought an entire cart of snacks for us! I also experienced something similar aboard a cruise ship with my friend’s family. We got treated to all the Filipino dishes during meal times. They were so happy to see their kabayans on board. And this is why I encourage my friends to teach their kids and grandkids how to speak Tagalog. It is the key that unlocks this privilege club.

    Thanks, @Dinah Salonga! The whole thing roots from our ancient past where these beautiful islands nourished us abundantly. We did not have to grab, scam, or hoard stuff. We shared, cared for, and respected each other. We still, consciously and unconsciously, live out values like 'kapwa tao', and 'bayanihan.' I am not a native, but I have learned through osmosis:)

It seems like there are many such ecovillages across India like there are several Naturopathy Centres across India founded by and inspired by Gandhi. Thankfully, my translation of the meaning of Govardhana was quite close:)

    Guru-Ji, we got the culture of kissing the hand from the Spanish culture. The word "mano" is in fact a Spanish word for hand - the right hand! Suprisingly, kissing the hand of elders is also present in the Malay culture - Malysia, Indonesia and Brunei Darusalam. When I was younger, I was "forced" by my parents to ask the blessings of all Titos and Titas present by kissing their hand and saying "Mano po.""

    When I moved back to the US and got my first apartment at age 18, the landlord's wife was a Filipina. Since I didn't have any furniture, they gave me all their their old furniture and everything that I didn't need to buy anything for the apartment except for food. Several years after I got settled in, I made friends with another Filipino who was going thru some hard times and I allowed him to move in with me while he was looking for another job and another place to stay.

    You are so correct, this is the explanation i want to know hear why filipinos term as resilient. Those 3 reasons are exactly the filipino attitude. Pinoys accept that life is a journey and there are so many challenges allong the way. 2. The goal is Lean on God forhelp when challenges comes. 3. Optimism. That goal ( God) made filipinos be positive. Because God saves his people. Following the examples of Jesus. True Problems will pass just call on to Him and slowly divine help will come in surprising and little ways.

  • @mischkutamora3342
    @mischkutamora33423 жыл бұрын

    The elders taught us a moral value about being resilient. "When failures or challenges comes in life, dont remain down, get up, and move on" just like when we run then suddenly fell down. We need to get up, puff away the hurts, shake it off and then move on. We dont remain fallen.

    Great explanation of the importance of "who we think we are" and how it becomes our identity! It's just like how our 'habits' is linked to who we are! I also read the habits thing from the book, Atomic Habits, where the author shared how we should start with what values we have or want as a person (to me that's relative to what you said about IDENTITY) and ask yourself if your habits contribute to that. Thanks for the insights!!

    As a Filipino, I just take for granted this trait that we possess and good thing you have this lecture and it served as an eye opener because you, as an outsider can determine the difference or the unique trait that we have because you have experienced other cultures as well as you are from a different culture & also have observed other cultures like the American culture. Thank you Raju for the enlightenment.
