Falconry And Me

Falconry And Me

Join me on my adventures with birds of prey, and other amazing animals too.
You will find instructional guides on falconry techniques, and close up insights into the birds I work with.

Although you cannot learn falconry from videos and books alone, I hope to answer some commonly asked questions, and overlooked issues that people ask about.

Hope it helps, and happy flying!
Amy

I can't help feeling sad for Fable. She's obviously well cared for, but she's confined and has no other ravens to interact with.

As I’m watching this, at midnight on a Thursday, I’m feeding potato bugs to a roughly 3 week old western screech owl I found. First saw it 2 days ago, left it there for the parents, but there’s no sign of them, I pointed a camera at it. So tonight I brought it inside to attempt to save the little guy. I caught a bunch of bugs for it and he gobbles them up. I raise birds and chickens and stuff, I know animals, he feels so light for his size, I don’t think it has eaten in a while, more than the 2 days I know about. It seems content tucked away in an empty cardboard box. I got a barn full of food for him when he grows up, if he wants to stick around he’s welcome.

Lovely video ❤. I am hoping the lovely Fable has the company of other ravens and is allowed to fly also. Crows are super smart and need company and stimulation, as I'm sure you already know.

In Coastal Virginia, I moved in w my 86 year-old sister at the request of her daughters, when they perceived she was having memory troubles and her health was declining. She had been maintaining a fairly substantial bird feeder on her balcony for years, that was visited by song birds, crows, squirrels, and at night Raccoons. Since she passed a year ago and her out-of-town daughter & son-in-law purchased the house, they have hired work crews to restore things, and the feeding was interrupted for some six months before I began my own haphazard program. The Crows are the only birds that watch for me to toss goodies out on the lawn. I realized they DO NOT TRUST food left on a plate or cardboard. It seems to be an extended family group, and one crow or another will come check every hour or so to serve watch and see if I will make any offering. Then the loud Summons goes out and the rest show up in half a minute. I have to retire to indoors and stay in the shadows, before they drop to the grass to forage; they do not trust me out on the deck. I regret that I will be moving to new digs in a few weeks. They are critters I would like to know better.

When I come home from work in the morning, I feed birds, squirrels, possums and whoever else that comes in my yard. One day I noticed a ring with a pink stone in it on the picnic table where I leave the food. Then a plastic bead, then a ribbon and so on. Well, I saw my raven friend leaving another gift! Oh man I was so happy that I got another friend stopping by! He always leaves me gifts, ravens know us humans like shinny stuff. My little wooden box is filled with gifts from my raven. I love this little (well not so little) dude!!!!!!!! I live in Chicago.

Was at a “scenic lookout” near the summit of a Washington State pass about ten years ago and watched and heard a raven repeatedly make the sound of a car door closing. Something he must of heard many many times hanging out at that spot. It was uncanny.
