People SAY they want dispassionate journalism like this, but in practice most people want their preconceived biases and prejudices reaffirmed and don't want to hear anything that goes against that. And so the business of infotainment has arisen.

"When I find the vein I hope I will feel better". Young David's comment here has haunted me as the polar opposite happened and I feel so sad for him and his family. I well up a bit every time I see it.

I had a dream about 7 months ago about a volcano erupting and I saw the mountain with snow and the lava coming down fast and people running in hysteria packing the train to get out of there. Everybody was thirsty and screaming while there was ash falling all over. After this dream the Iceland volcano erupted but I couldn't see a train in that area. Mt. St. Helens is the one that is clicking for me. Anybody in the area please stay alert.

I get volcanologist's and geologist's being on the Mountain, I get those that wanted to tempt fate to get close to it and risk their own lives (so be it), I get the workers that kind of had no choice but to continue working, I get the people that refused to leave the mountain (their choice). What I DONT get are the teenage campers who almost died and the family with 2 babies who decided to go backpacking! (especially them). People being warned for weeks about a possible massive eruption and you take a 4 yr old and a 3mo old (who had no say in making the decision) and risk their lives? It's disgusting and awful! Thank goodness they survived!

I'm from suburban Chicago, took a trip to Oregon this week and was reminded of Mount St. Helens, which made me remember watching this film (and the jingle of course) in 4th grade at Laidlaw Elementary School in Western Springs, Illinois, in 1996 with Dr. Van Lear. It all fits together!

Why did you need to add those beeps in the video?? I wished to watch the video but couldn’t due to the noise BEEPS!!

I was 50 miles away on top of Mount Rainier watching Mount Saint Helens erupt. After seeing a most incredible lightning display we aborted our climb and headed down. In just 30 minutes we had ash falling on us. It coated the snow and looked like a lunar landscape.

At the time this documentary was made mountain climber Robert Rogers still thought this whole thing was a hilarious joke. All those people died, lives destroyed, and he's making jokes. He should be thankful that he survived, and mourning for those who weren't as fortunate.
