    I have a friend/next door neighbor who does this. I can't take it anymore and the worst part is her problems are trivial and almost completely overblown. My friend thinks the world owes her everything, while she plays the victim. It's exhausting. Everyone is doing her favors and yet she complains about it. Her sweet landlord hasn't raised her rent in years, and she's paying easily half the market value, yet she talks crap about her landlord. She is getting free government money to get her GED but has failed and droped courses because she's decided that the course is too hard and the teacher is teaching right... Yet she's planning on going to college for engineering.... were she'll be taking the debt and she'll be on her own if she doesn't understand the course. Her workplace is accommodating her injury by spreading her shifts out into 4 hour blocks, so she doesn't lose her hours and pay. Yet, she complains that she has to work an extra day... which do you want? Money or an easy shift? She ranted the other day that her free physiotherapist was talking about his summer holidays and she was jealous of him... she's never happy for people. I could go on but I truly think she needs anti-depressants or something. She's completely taken advantage of my kindness. Her last rant ended in me saying, can we talk about something else, and her saying "but I feel so much better after I talk to you." I walk away feeling heavy and angry and in a bad mood. 👎

    I had a nearly identical circumstance. Once with a neighbor and once with a roommate. Unfortunatley, I had difficulty avoiding these convesrations with them due to proximitry. When I look back, I wish I would've moved/gottten away sooner. From what I've been researching, it's true that someone can feel better after venting. The issue is that the more a person vents (and feel rewarded for venting), the more they will continue to do it. Over time, this will lead the person to "vent" about any little thing so that they can feel the percieved reward from it. Unfotunately, this reward comes from someone else's attention, time, and energy. Additionally, the act of venting causes the venter to re-live the negative scenario, which places their mind in a negative state (along with the listener's mind). And if the venter continues to put their mind in a negative state, they will continue to train their mind to more frequently visit a negative state. It is a vicious cycle.

    You have always found and enjoyed going to unique coffee shops. Thanks for your videos. You have helped me often with mindset. I remember you asking me once, how is that working for you? When you obviously saw it was not, but you made me look at the situation to realize it was time for a change. You helped me look at things as an opportunity. I get to choose who I have in my life, where I want to go. Know when to let go or when to keep going. Pushing self to better, letting go of an old pattern that no longer works for this time and learning new ways. We can get stuck in a pattern of just coasting along and not paying attention, going through the motions. We don't need to go through the motions, we can be excited about our life and change what needs to be changed. Grow. Forever learning. I thank you for teaching me at my age. Never to old to learn new things.

    Thanks so much for the kind words. “How is that working for you?” - I’m glad this question supported your thoughts. It’s a question that we may not think about asking ourself, though once asked can have us step back and see what is working and what is not working (and how things could be improved). You are spot on when you talk about getting stuck in patterns. Patterns and routines can be beneficial for us, while others can be a detriment. Forever growing together :)

    Hey, i get what you mean. But what if the person, Didn't had any intention to be selfish? And just wanted someone to talk to? And what if they didn't wanted to stress them out, So they hide some important information? What if the person was just a child who needed mental help and that they try getting help but their parents won't support them and just call them crazy? That is what i wonder, Because most children online have mental issues.

  • @michaelostrow
    @michaelostrowАй бұрын

    Yeah I understand that. I believe that most people who vent don’t have the intention of being selfish. Nor do many realize the stress and energy drain it may cause on others. That being said, if someone is needing help and support, it is important that someone will lend an open ear and guidance for them. This is especially important for parents to listen to their children. The parents should listen to the children to understand their lives and offer guidance. It’s unfortunate when parents have too much on their own plate and not enough emotional bandwidth to support their children’s development.

    I forgot to answer your question- Ideally I would love to sell kitchen tools and equipment. Products I’m familiar with, good quality and worth the price. And things I would love to have in my kitchen. I’m also interested in making videos for KZread but that would just be for fun- never in front of the camera - just sharing videos of different locations etc. I’m still trying to figure out my vision for that - and niche 😅 I did some social media marketing for my brother’s app a couple years back and I really enjoyed that. I’m just not sure how that would work with a restaurant or cafe - working remotely. Also most places don’t have the budget for that. Maybe work for a food magazine. 🤔

    Great thoughts on kitchen tool and equipment. Playing around with these ideas is always fun. And it should be. That gets you started on things. Then they get hard and frustrating at some point, but if you’ve had enough fun before then, you may keep up with it. I’m experience some of that with KZread. And I haven’t found my niche either. Just doing them for fun and seeing where it can go. And I’m trying to be more consistent so hopefully that niche will speak to me. Social media marketing for restaurants or cafes would be a cool way to work remote. Though you might be right about the budget. Restaurants often have a low profit margin. I’m not too sure on cafes though 🤔

    Yes, if it’s something you find interesting and/ or fun you’re more likely to keep working at it, even if there are no immediate results. Even if it’s very “hard work” if you find it fulfilling, then it often doesn’t “ feel like work”. That’s how I used to feel when I worked in gastronomy- I often worked 10-15 hrs days, 5 days a week and I loved it. I really miss it and im looking to find something that makes me want to wake up early and stay up late because I love the work- I want to find that same sense of purpose once again. Minus the crazy hours, of course 😅 I’m too old for that- specially my knees 😜

    Thank you!!! There is just so much information online and videos that it’s kind of overwhelming. 😅 I have the “old school” way of thinking- in that if you want to learn a new skill or make a career change, you go back to college or a trade school etc. There are so many courses available online -it’s really hard to choose 😵‍💫 Which is the stage I’m currently stuck in- I’m in “Choice overload, also known as overchoice, choice paralysis, or the paradox of choice”. Also, when moving into a new field- It’s hard to tell which is a “good” course to take or who’s giving good advice - as opposed to a hack who teaches people how to do a half a*s job. 😅 But you’re right, I need to just go for it and try it. You can’t make an omelette without cracking some eggs 😜 I’m also not religious - But combined with the feeling my life is lacking purpose, I can see how that could be one of the reasons for my (current) existential crisis 😅 That’s a great point- I never thought about it that way. In general I think not having a plan or set goals is a bit harder when you don’t have a place to call home.. For the last 3 yrs I have moved to a new city /country every 1-3 months (more or less) and I think it’s getting to me.. Ha! It’s not always on purpose- or the plan.. It depends on the Visa situation, cost of living and the food 😉 Which I’m sure you know about as a fellow traveler. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video and answering my question. I’m looking forward to your next post. Keep up the good work! Ps You cracked me up when you said Msanabanana 🙃

    Responding to KZread Comments I completely understand what you mean about it being overwhelming. I also feel overwhelmed when I want to learn something new. Honestly, that feeling lasts for such a long time, until you start seeing some progress with it. One example for me now is learning Vietnamese. Where do I go to learn the information, where is best.. etc. constantly feeling like I’m not moving fast enough. I’m not sure there is a perfect answer. Though I’m not one to believe in going back to university and paying tens of thousands of dollars to learn information you can learn much cheaper online. Though I agree it’s challenging to find sources you can trust and believe in. (And the more you trust and believe in them, the more intent you’ll be on learning the information from that source.) I like starting with the free versions or the cheaper versions (at least in the beginning). Like buying a “starter” item to see if you like it in the first place. Rather than spending TONS of money or committing to something you’re unsure about. If there is someone you like or some organization you like, that could be a good place to start. For example, I like reading books, but so many are just a waste of time. I like the author Cal Newport, so I know it’ll be a safe investment of my time and energy to read another one of his books. Let me know where you start cracking those eggs 🥚 I’m very familiar with what you’re talking about (changing countries/cities every whenever the visa is up). After years of doing this, I’ve finally decided to stay in one city for the foreseeable future. I agree plans and goals are harder with no set home. I feel a large part of that is due to the amount of mental energy and time consumption it takes to keep moving (finding new places to get food, as well as apartments, cafes, etc). With a set home I’m finding more time for a routine to get into around those goals/plans. Thanks so much for sharing and for the positive words!

    Thank you for your thoughtful advice 🍎 I will definitely keep it in mind as I dive into this new path. ✨ Sorry for the late reply- I just made a new move from Bangkok, Thailand 🇹🇭 to Ninh Thuận, Vietnam 🇻🇳 😜 I love Thailand and I plan to go back … Chiang Mai looks cool. So far things have been a little rough - there is no public transportation and the area where my airbnb is located is not the nicest. :/ I killed two huge cockroaches- today- I hate cockroaches 😵 and the water heater is not working- so I have to use a bucket to shower for the next few days. I guess it could be worse… 🐭 Everything looked newer and cleaner online :/ maybe it’s due to construction next door. Today I’m just telling myself… “ you don’t have to stay here forever, this is just for a set amount of time, make the best of it, make it work, it’s okay to step outside your comfort zone, it’s not that bad, it has just been a couple of days …. I’m stressed thinking I made a huge mistake - But this is just my black and white thinking… Everything is either great and amazing or an absolutely disaster and a huge mistake. I’m working on it 😅

    The main reason for coming to this small beach town was to have minimal distractions and get work done. I find it hard to focus when I don’t have a routine. When I get to a new place - I spend a lot of time finding my way around, figuring out transportation and of course.. sightseeing 😅 I feel guilty if I stay home all day - it just feels like a day wasted but I also feel guilty about going out all day and not getting things done 😅 Anyway, long term I don’t plan to stay in this part of the world- I can never get used to the heat. I find it exhausting sweating from morning till night 😓 I want to live in a place with changing seasons- I’ve been thinking about going back to Berlin, or maybe Budapest. I just need to figure out the whole Visa thing 🙄🤕 I grew up in NYC so that’s what I’m used to …

    @@Msanabanana1973 What you're sharing is right on par with what we were talking about before (though maybe a bit more on the extreme side). Being in a place where you are now consumes so much mental effort and attention on minute details. Like "will there be another cockroach while I'm sleeping" or "i'm dreading another bucket shower". So much so that it's challenging to get your mind to focus on the stuff that's most important to you. I know and I've been there.. One of the worst experiences for me was noticing a GIANT spider on the wall near the door of the bathroom once I had already begun my shower... I love Thailand too! I've actually been craving to go back to Chiang Mai - lovely place. When you go, there is a beautiful peaceful temple on Doi Suthep that I'd recommend going to for some meditation (it's usually not over crowded). Sometimes I find it draining and it changes my mood. My friend yelled and vented at me when I was telling this person that I can’t hangout as much because of my commitment to my intern disability job. I tried my best to hangout when I can but my friend keeps asking me to hangout when I’m working, and had two jobs at the time with only one day off. Sadly I had to stop being friends with this person due to high expectations from me. It caused me so much anxiety, sleepless nights, and my personality was more negative. Had to go to the doctors to check my heart condition because I was telling my dad that I had some chest pains. I’m usually bubbly and silly. So far. I’m getting back to my normal self. I’m just slowly trying to get over the hurtful things my friend said to me

    I am familiar with the situation you found yourself in. And I also know how challenging it can be to get over any lingering pain. I hope that you are able to disconnect from the pains over time and that you are able to find that cheerful and bubbly self again. And I hope that you’re able to find positive people to surround yourself with. I’m sending some positivity your way! 🙌

    Michael is wonderful, I understand that you are spreading positive values, a spiritual life that is less dependent on material things, I think many people need that at this time. Hopefully many people will join the group and accompany you. Wishing you early success with your set goals.

    Family seems to be the most difficult when it comes to understanding us. I imagine they have this view of us from childhood and they don’t see us as growing and changing humans. Have you tried telling her how it makes you feel. Example (when you vent to me, it makes me feel…)
