I like your tutorials. Your teaching method is very effective and I enjoy your humour. I recommend anyone wanting to learn travis picking learn the Kansas song Dust In The Wind with the three finger technique first. It’s a beautiful song that isn’t too hard to learn and sounds great. The reason I recommend it is that it follows the most common TP pattern throughout the song without much if any variation. Basically you learn just one pattern to play the whole song, and once you learn that pattern, almost everything else is just a variation of that pattern, and you will have the finger dexterity to handle anything.

Hearing you play and sing this song brings me back to fall of my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years of highschool. I always come back to Townes around that time and it reminds me of all those time, good and bad. But I thank God for all of them, I wouldnt be who I am today if things went another way. 🙏

Hey Mike. Thanks for all that you do! A couple years ago, I heard Kathy's song by S&G. It inspired me to pick the guitar up and play again after not performing for years through and after Covid. Your video taught me how to pick it and I've ridden that picking pattern through many other songs and originals since then. You're the best!

the program is called Transcribe! I've got no affiliation. It was recommended to me. There's tons of similar programs out there. Perhaps some better and/or cheaper. I dont know. But you can always start by just slowing down youtube's playback speed. I did that for 20 years.

I don't understand false revelations . Are you feeling under appreciated ? I've been transcribing music for many years but one needs to practice also listening. I have a BA in music composition with honors. There were people who thought that I had no business to major in music. I don't comprehend false revelations, I heard religion and politics and I got confused. I used to play flute at a local church. That was my form of worship until the so called music director asked me to sit down. I never went back to church. False leaders even in church

So I'm certainly playing on the term "false revelation" as it has a great and wide historical scope. But in this video I'm using this term to describe the feeling you get when you consume informational content and the enthusiasm of the speaker, or your interest in the topic make you feel elated, like your learning, like you've been enlightened....but in reality you walk away with nothing. It was merely feel good entertainment with no actual practical or long term value. I often listen to KZread or podcasts and delude myself that I'm "learning" that it's "educational". But then I wake I take a noment stop deluding myself: It's often just high brow entertainment. Nothing more. Does that clarify?

@MikesMusicMethod Thanks for your explanation, but I am in my seventies and I'm not WOKE. FALSE REVELATIONS to me has something to do with religion. But it is OK. At first I thought it was a sermon and God knows me. Michael the Archangel protects me. I'm going to disregard revelations, I don't get it. Simplify your explanation or it doesn't matter that I don't understand. I've never heard of this in my music studies

wise. I've hit that wall many a times. In fact, I listen to my favorite artists way less than I listen to artists I just "like" for the reason you mentioned. I don't want to burn them out. It's like overeating. Too much good stuff can make you sick, getting sick too often makes that good stuff less appealing.
