My wife and I had to move from Colorado Springs area in 2006 and we came back in 2018. What a difference, so many more people, sooooo much traffic, seems like you're always sitting at a red light. Housing has gone crazy. The home I sold in 2006 for $122,000 is worth over $475,000 now. We pay almost $2000 a month for a one bedroom 765sf apt in Colorado Springs.

PBS identified Colorado Springs as one of the worst cities to live in within the next decade due to drought. I have lived here for over 60 years. The growth has little infrastructure. Bad traffic, at times. Hard to get medical services. Housing is expensive. Just about everything is expensive. Crime is bad.

I think the only thing thats keeping my mom and I from returning to Colorado is lack of water. Living in Florida we got a backyard overlooking a pond and golf course, crazy thunderstorms. But the heat sucks doo doo here 😂. Growing up in Colorado springs the front range and mountain range beautiful views, military around is so cool, seeing jets fly around. Military cargo trains crazy. Plus always went to Dragon Mans. So many positives but its that lack of water and crazy house market.

The bottom line is no place is perfect. I suppose San Diego used to be perfect but then high taxes and cost of living ruined all that - so back to no place is perfect. It is all about tradeoffs. I used to live in Orlando, Florida - which, when I mention that, so many comment why I could move here from a paradise like that? Yeah, spend a summer in Orlando, then tell me how great it is. Orlando was great for those that are mostly house bums and can afford to spend a car-payment on AC (my bill was frequently over $800 per month) and then go to the theme parks during the off peak season. I lived there because I worked for a major employer that owned a few castles. Orlando is nice for about 3-4 months out of the year. If I had to live in Florida again, I would go for a coastal city to benefit from the sea breeze, but not Orlando. Orlando is just a swamp flanked by beaches (about an hour away) - which are only good for sunbathing - no real waves. And, good luck finding car/home owners insurance. Not really much for outdoor activities beyond water parks. They had a few rail-trails, but I would only attempt doing those early in the morning. There are few natural springs - if you don't mind fighting a few alligators for a place. Colorado Springs, I can actually eat outside a good bit of the year. Yes, it gets cold but you can always put on more layers. Because of a lack of humidity, the heat/cold hits differently. I'd take -10F in Colorado Springs before 40F in Orlando. We also get some relief at night as it dips into the 60s and even 50s at night in the summer. My main issues with the weather so far - occasional extreme cold (below 0), wind, and the dryness. Lotion, chap-stick, and carrying water bottles everywhere are now part of my life. Snow isn't a big deal here - most of the time - normally melts off within a day or so. I moved here for the mountains - both the views and to play in. I went skiing 13 days last season, so I feel like I got my money's worth. Colorado isn't cheap, but just worth it (to me). If you can afford to live here and don't mind the few problems, it's a great state. If you can't afford to have fun here, then living in Colorado is a bit of a waste - might as well move to the mid-west for half the cost.

There is a huge fiber build throughout the US right now and for the next 5 or so years. Fiber is not common, but becoming so. Internet is not a problem, nor has it been since I've been here the past 3 yrs and work from home. BEAD and RDOF (gov't funding) is what is bringing most of the fiber throughout the US (accessibility for all).

This is California now, expensive, high taxes, unemployment, bad traffic, business closing. It's very sad to see the changes. Coloradans are quiet, humble, easy going, but many have moved away because they cannot afford the state anymore. All these realtors encourage people to move here because they are struggling financially and they are only thinking about making money. In 2022 alone, 45K californians moved here. The reason why we don't want them here is because they are imposing the believes and politics that caused their state to collapse. People used to drive fast in the highway only, in the streets people were so polite, now there is so many accidents and speeding, the fatality rate has gone up so high, we don't recognize the place. Don't trust realtors, they only boost the best and they don't tell you the truth, like insurance cost and nuclear power dangers in the north part of Denver. He is very bias as he states it.

  • @RandyVazquez

I would move here again and again every time. There are way more positives about this city than any of the negatives I listed. If these are the worst 15 things I could experience while living here, then it’s still better than the 15 I could come up with living on the East Coast. The only thing I would change is I’d have moved here sooner tbh. This is my favorite city in the country! BY FAR!

It’s safe, it’s FUN, it’s insanely beautiful, it’s growing and getting more good restaurants and entertainment, I love the weather (aside from the wind lol)… I honestly freaking love it here and don’t plan to leave any time soon

Yeah, I can see the driving thing. I used to live in SE Alabama - pretty laid back driving for the most part (except for granny doing 90 on a dirt road). When I moved to Atlanta, within a year, my driving style changed to be much more aggressive so much so that people back home refused to ride with me when I was the driver. However, the absolute worse drivers are in Orlando. Literally everyone's brain is on vacation mode.

Yeah. The wind is no joke. At least it isn't constant but occasionally, we do get aggressive winds. I moved here about a year ago. Spent 6 months in an apartment while my house was being built. We rented a garage that had a 110v outlet and got by with that, but occasionally I would buzz up to Briargate to charge. Now that I'm in my house, we have a dedicated, wall mounted charger (EVSE) installed and just charge there 99% of the time while local. Since I charge up to 85% each day, I've never needed to charge in town after moving into the house. There are places in Colorado that are less agreeable with Teslas so I got Tesla to retrofit my car to work with CCS networks too so that I have more options available. Not perfect of course, but it works well enough. Actually, my biggest surprise was the lack of level 2 (slower) charging options at shopping centers or at hotels here - although I do see them at a handful of apartment complexes. Environmental benefits are nice, but what pulled me in was just how fun they are to drive without going deaf. Also, being a technologist, they better fit my taste and personality (phone with wheels). For those considering an EV, Colorado has one of the most generous incentive programs at the state level and if you combine that with the federal incentive (depending on the car) - that could be about $12,500 off. However, I bought mine while I still lived in Florida and before the federal incentives.

Colorado springs 10 or even 20 years ago wasn't a bad place. In fact it was one of the best places to live. But between the huge uptick in crime, homeless, and traffic. It's pretty much like any other major city. Oh, and the cost of living is insane. You'd better have a great paying job, or you won't be able to afford to even have an apartment. Idk how anyone can survive here as a young adult. My wife and I make over 100k/yr combined and bought our home before the market skyrocketed, and we still struggle to afford anything extra. If you can live somewhere that isn't another major city, then I'd go there. There is nothing special about COS anymore. It's just another trashy big city.
