Du Cinema

Du Cinema

Du Cinema is a channel dedicated to the art of filmmaking! I share video-essays about popular culture and a wide variety of movies 🍿🎬.

I love to discuss broad topics and talk about all kinds of movies. I firmly believe that learning more about cinema can give you so much more enjoyment from movies and will make you appreciate the art a little bit more.

But, what does 'Du Cinema' mean? Well, it's inspired by the famous and well respected French movie magazines titled Cahiers Du Cinema, meaning 'notebooks on cinema'. It was founded in the 1950's and included essays of influential filmmakers and film critics. The literal translation is "from cinema", the place where it all starts 🎥.

It takes a lot of guts to play the character in a movie like brokeback mountain. Especially, taking that kind of risk so early in his career. While others are playing safe.

Ali G interviewing Beckham and his stick-woman is one of the true greats of now classic British TV. They were both so cool and played along which made the whole thing just epic.

From someone who has watched every movie he has taken a major part in. His discography has such a distinguishable vibe. It’s always dark, serious, raw, masculine and revealing. He’s in another world of his own.

Geez, Napoleon was by far his best role, but he was impressive in his other roles. He should stick to positive roles & not buy in to the bs.

I def (in this video) see some spaces that I remember perhaps from dreams my dreams are memorable about the extremely different environments that I, whoever’s perspective I am behind, inside That particular dream, supplied. and this but weird even the finding is they were never meant to be places as this video suggests and so every pile becomes words and every question is yes so I feel much there was noting to see nothing much to note all to be and stay sealed for the reason is and was there and I have to say I will make it so

If you liked this video and want to delve, you "must read" the appendix "On Acting Madness" in Adam Phillips' 2012 book, Missing Out. Both psychotherapist and theatre critic, Phillips says "...the mad are trying to make themselves impossible to ignore and impossible not to want to ignore." Since "insanity" and "sanity" are culturally-determined behavioural roles that everyone chooses to follow or not follow, Phillips contends "It becomes more and more difficult to be 'originally' mad" (p. 175). Such insights abound.

A great summary of kinds of liminality. Thanks. In the wee hours, under faint indirect lighting, my normally convivial kitchen turns liminal. Double-check your Greek-root pronunciations, e.g., "elegaic" is el-li-JI-ic.

Because the competition is piss poor. Winning an award for film-making from the academy in the last decade is about either how diverse you are, meaning dogmatically approved or there is no one else of any merit so its wining by default. Winning anything on merit in 2024 in Hollywood is like being the best hockey player in all of Ecuador. Oppenheimer is good in relative sense. But in absolute sense... lets just say this is not the golden age of Hollywood. Competition is not what it used to be. And politics dominates the awards ceremonies more than ever.

I know God took care a lot of our problems but our homes are not fixed. My family is still separated and I hope they have gotten what they deserve.
