Worst video in the topic of pruning
Lovely to see you again. It’s funny how plants all have their own schedule. I’m way down in Tennessee and my hydrangea have barely begun to bud, but my rose bushes have all sprouted new leaves and the crabapple is just beginning to flower. The bumble bees and and red wasps are out, too, so it’s time to break out the long gloves when pruning.
Thank you, just need to work up the courage
So cheery!
Wow! I've admired your yew in passing and imagine my surprise when I found this video. Feeling inspired.
What kind words! Do pop in for a coffee or tea sometime you’re passing.
I would love that Jean! Kind regards Michelle
Niwaki means garden tree
Love it
I am delighted to find your channel again. Something happened, and I lost your channel.
fascinating ~Thanks Jean
This is encouraging, thank you. I’m going to try it on an olive tree.
Such a beautiful Spring garden Jean. That Amaryllis behind you is gorgeous. What is the bright coral/red colour branches to the right of the Penstemon? Cheers from Roxanne in snowy 🇨🇦.
Hello Roxanne, thanks for your comment. Yes, the Amaryllis has taken an age to get going but at last it is, as you say, gorgeous. The bright gold/red branches belong to Cornus (Dogwood) Midwinter Fire. I've raved about it so much in previous vlogs because it's just beautiful in winter. The trick is to cut all the branches down to just a few inches when the leaves start to grow every year in the spring, as new wood has the best colours. It's very hardy here but I don't know whether your winter might be too brutal for it? Worth a try! Jean x
@@JeanKnox95 I had a feeling it was a Dogwood but I've not seen that magnificent colour before. Here in Ontario, Red Osier Dogwood is native. I'm fairly new to your channel so I will go back through your videos to find it growing in other seasons.
NOT very helpful - with any °Close - Up - Pictures° of How this Dutch - Hoe is (1) USED, (2) At Which Angle & (3) WHICH of the °Dutch Hoe° group is being used. Also NO Mention of How to REMOVE Perennial Weeds. (Which would have been Very useful. Japanese Anemones = to Weeds - the way they spread so RAMPANTLY - Throughout the WHOLE garden (If they're NOT kept in Check !
Great video
Can you give me the exact plant name 😀
The plant is Taxus baccata, the common yew.
Love the idea. How big was your yew when you first started the pom poms?
I think it was probably about 120cm tall and it is still not much more than that.
Sorry to hear this Jean. Take care and stay safe.
My goodness, Ngyla, how did you find me? It's hard to believe we've been back home for 5 months now, and Tosh is so very pleased to be home! We survived well and it was a most interesting experience.
@@JeanKnox95 I will email you to catch up
🐸
Niwaki translates to "garden tree". Lovely work though.
So good to see you back and settled!
It is SO good to hear that your house has been sorted out and you’re back home. The front garden looks amazing and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the back on your open day. Best wishes.
Thanks so much for your kind comments. It is good to be back, and Tosh is particularly appreciative - seven mice and a bird worth of appreciation! And, if you visit in August, do introduce yourself to me.
Lovely,Jean
Oh, my! So glad to see you back on the airwaves, and just in time for your lovely summer garden. 🌺
Thanks for your very kind words, Sweetbriar, much appreciated.
Great video, love the finished product!
Thank you,Jean, from a novice gardener.
Super pruning
Jean I love your video, I was inspired to do it myself. I posted a tiktok and got 1m views 😳. I posted a follow up video with your voice and screenshots from this video to show where the idea came from and it has 173k views and 15k likes as of this morning. I just wanted to thank you for being such an inspiration 🧑🏻🌾💚
Your garden 🪴 looks beautiful and appears well looked after .
Thank you this has inspired me to give this a go!
Thanks Jordan, it really wasn't difficult at all. Let me know how you get on.
Thank you Jean, great video and lovely cat!
Thank you Charlotte, I'll pass on your comments to Tosh who is resting at the moment!
Thank you so much
Thanks, Selahattin, glad it's been helpful.

I'm enjoying your videos a lot! They are teaching me a great deal.
Thanks so much, Lindsey!
Thank you so much, Jean, this video series is precisely what I needed!
Thanks, Lindsay, I'm so pleased these videos have been helpful. There should have been one more in the series, about planting, but my house was badly damaged when a car drove into it and, although the back garden is fine, the house is uninhabitable and my laptop, with all the video clips, etc, is buried under rubble and probably dead.
I just bought one 🤓 Thank you!
I'm sure you'll find it invaluable!
Just found your channel, I’ve just started this year to garden. My property has been a mowed wasteland until now, but I’ve retired and have the time to do something with it. I think your videos on garden planning have convinced me I’ll have to get out the graph paper and do the paper work as I clear the beds and start testing plants. Best regards to you and Tosh.
Thanks for your kind comments. When I started doing these "designing from scratch" videos I was really quite surprised myself how truly logical it all was. I suppose I'm a bit of a "trial & error" person, and these videos are the outcome of all the errors! But so much is just common sense, isn't it? Good luck with your garden clearance!
I have a big bush in front of our house,.such as yours. I tried shaping it up but now after watching your video time to eat some lolly pops. Loved your experience and explaining and most of all inspiration, thank you!
Thanks for your kind comments. It really was a remarkably simple thing to do, and very effective, but it probably took me a good couple of years to bite the bullet and make the first cut. Looking back, it did look quite scruffy after the first cut but it has improved year on year, so don't be disheartened if it isn't immediately stunning! Perfection takes time!
I love your videos, they have helped me so much in my garden!!
I'm so pleased the videos have helped you. There's a lot of common sense in gardening and garden planning.
Very good video that place is very beautiful and calm, also I loved the participation of the cat!
Thank you for these kind words. I'll tell Tosh (the cat) that you enjoy his participation - he'll appreciate that!
Many thanks. A very helpful demonstration of the Dutch hoe.
Best help on weeds I’ve seen-thank you
Enjoying your video from America. Really lovely garden. you did a fabulous job creating that topiary. Just subscribed.
Thanks Allen, and thanks for telling me where you live! Glad you found the video useful.
Your garden is beautiful Jean x
Thanks very much, Debbie. At the moment it's submerged under 30cm of snow, so not looking at its best!
Very useful for starting from first principles, avoiding possible mistakes before they're 'set in stone'.
Thanks for sharing 🌲
You're very welcome. It was a lot easier than I had anticipated so don't be put off!
Неожиданно! Красиво!
Thank you for good and useful information Jean.
What a great result!! I can't even keep a globe cedar round. 🤦🏻♀️ I'm for sure going to have a look for those one handed pruners though.
Thanks Roxanne. Yes, I can't praise these shears highly enough (Jakoti Hand Shear for Gardening or Sheep Shearing). They make the job so much easier, very comfortable and great hand strengtheners!
Even as a longterm gardener I learned something from this. Thanks, Jean. MS
Great video. I am the inexperienced one. Thanks. Gail
nice 1 dear.
