    Great video. The juno is a classic rave & techno synth 😊

    While the UI certainly isn't my thing I can use it. I've just never been good at programing a good sound out of an analog synth. I think it was the 80's sound bass in some of my tracks as Archaic Melody but I can't remember what tracks they were. I've found that it layers well with a TX81z and both synths cover each others weaknesses. Of course you can't forget the effects, EQ, and other audio processing. I've noticed that some delays and revebs go well with getting a better sound of the synth. I wouldn't mind a few more knobs and faders as well. Perhaps a dpad as well. The Alpha dial did have a lasting legacy that when onto other devices before and after this synth.

    After 15 years, no one has improved upon the elegance of the Saturn-ring modulation visual feedback. I always wonder why other synth makers don’t embrace this GUI paradigm

    I'm wondering if there is a way to create an arpeggiator with the Trackformer. It can do Midi Phrases, but at the beggining it seems i can't to change the pitch of those phrases

    I love the TB-03, I just use i for ideas and to play with, the build quality is insanely great. BUT, I have to say, my cheap Behringer TD-1 sounds just as good, it may even have a grittier bass IMO. And, you can buy THREE ULI-303's and still have plenty left over for cables for the price of one Roland TB-03. Now I want the TD- MO...

    I agree with Weaver in that Rick Beato is starting to seem like a total dumbass. Why NOT make music creation easier? Why the fuck do things like synths and such even exist? I think he's just bitter because he still thinks he's cool. Maybe I should send him a potato and he can figure out after 70 years how to make a song with that.

    I have owned a Alpha Juno 1 for 28 years(paid $240 for it from a music shop in Florida) and have an awkward love/hate relationship with it. Agreed the UI is not fitting for the synthesis engine, so much so I actually removed all the keys on mine and it is leaning on its side against the rack space acting like a oversized module. It control it from a Ctrlr patch on occasion, which is getting pretty long in the tooth, but I do like being able to control all functions remotely. Something about the resonance on this one combined with all those tonal options and that slightly abrasive sheen, then lower the cutoff and just turns smooth and Roland round. Nothing quite like it. Also appreciate I was hearing it in alot of Frankfurt techno in the late 80's well before the whole Hoover patch thing. It's part cheese, part classic Roland. Don't expect I'll ever get rid of it.

    The synth one is much less painful than the S though it is really a sideways movement from the EMX, for every one thing they improved they took something good the EMX had away. I've come to terms with the fact that Korg sucks now and for me the 2 series was the edge of the cliff they dove off of.

    I picked one of these up for $150 at a pawn shop like 5 years ago. It was great for pads....that was it. At the time I had a JP-8000 though that shrouded this and ended up selling it...can't say I miss it. Made a good profit off it and honestly....it's too much of a pain in the ass to program.

  • @wildphilgaming
    @wildphilgamingКүн бұрын

    Also, btw, the Hoover was only a preset on the Alpha Juno 2 not the 1. You can program it, obviously, into the 1...but it was a default in 2.

    This was the episode that introduced me to the show and I'm so happy that I found it! The PO24 Office was my first one and now I've become a big fan of the series as someone who is both combating and giving into GAS on a very tight budget! Curious if you've ever tried the PO33 or any others in the series, the PO33 really got me started on making my own music and it's super fun. I've also used the PO24 on a few industrial/noise projects as the centerpiece since it can get really gnarly sounding actually! Anyways enough rambling out of me, love the show!

    I absolutely love this synth. I have my dad's Alpha 2, although it needs service currently. The Alpha is strong and nuanced in any mix and, with a PG-300, can become much more hands on. The menu is deep, but not too deep, and the oscillator architecture is at least one (if not more) step(s) beyond the typical ADSR. MInimalist but Phat as all get out. This synth IS the early/mid 80s. I have used this and it really has analog flavor. There is portamento but I haven't been able to get it to do slides, but some more knowledgeable midi/sysex person I bet could figure that out. EXCELLENT episode although, certainly not bad gear, but whinge-worthy without the PG-300. Also the alpha wheel is designed and great for long sweeps, but limited for quicker envelope changes, thus the demand for the PG-300s to pull that off.

    the only way Roland Cloud is worth it, is the nearly ended (4 days to do) Play4Life feature - I have already argued for them to make this permanent - they agree and will probably do it? (¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) ... Japan HQ can get funny - I worked in the Roland CSuite for a time... the other is thing not having to sync a TB303 (or any other Roland gear), ever. I mean, ever. - this cannot be overstated. or having to use outboard gear (ick), when we have large accurate 50" touchscreens and MIDI mapping and Ableton. It's Joever. you will fall victim eventually.

    There is a ctrlr free editor for it that works great as a VST (With the MKS50) you could retrieve with it the "hoover sound" (what da) since it includes all original presets. For whoever thinks this synth sounds "thin", most of the preset are with the HP filter engaged, i guess it's because synths use emulate acoustic instruments, bypassing this gives it way more weight.Also, there is a filter mod that compensates for the lack of bass with high resonance.

    I love the IR-3R05 VCF of the Juno 1. It was called the Depeche Mode Synth for the poor because with the IR-3R05 Resonance you are able to create those VCF Velocity Bass Sounds beeing used in "nothing" from the album Music for the Masses. It does have the same Resonance Character.
