I have adopted a dog reactive working line GS. She barks at small and large dogs doesn’t matter. For two years I have worked with her. I carry a stick and pepper spray. I protect my dog. Why do people expect their dogs to protect themselves without help? I love my anxious dog. I would never choose to put her in with a bunch of loose dogs.

i had to use a dog park to train my dog for moving to a country where dogs run in packs and WILL try to approach on leash. my dog knows that while some behaviors are rude or unwelcomed those behaviors are still normal for dogs to do. he knows its normal to be rushed by dogs, to see dogs fight over who knows what but never gets involved. he knows dominance is to be expected but isnt scary. I also allow him sometimes to just tell the dogs off. one time a herding dog was trying to herd other dogs including mine. the dog was ignoring its owner and the only thing it listened to was my dog turning and standing its ground. he loves other dogs but wont hesitate to tell another dog off if they are bothering him.

So what’s fair about “ training” your dog to stand up to bullies and packs by putting other peoples’ pets at risk??

@@lauracollins5298 why shouldnt my dog stand up to a bully or a pack? why are off leash dogs coming up to my leashed dog? if the owner is doing nothing then that means that me and my dog have to do something if their dog is attacking.

Or you could show your kids they're more important to you than some mutt & get rid of it. Takes way less than 9 mins & 50 secs to figure this out too.

I think it's important to note that most, if not all, of the dogs in the park are unknown to you. There are really no rules or boundaries, and they're strangers. It's kind of like if we dropped a person into a prison recreational yard. Sure, most of the inmates probably aren't going to hurt you, but there are some who will, and you don't know which is which. For example, some people aren't as responsible as you. I've seen dogs with "policing" tendencies, that see other dogs running and playing and feel the need to stop them. This can easily turn into other dogs (that are not yours) getting involved, and fights start. All the while your dog didn't do anything, but is now involved in a fight. That's just one example of the fact that you don't know the other dogs or what they'll do. It's a pretty big risk.

did your rottweiler have a relationship with your kids where they could touch him ? Or have they always been "seperated" through that "go there"

I spanked my 7 week old husky puppies today. Dog moms give harsh corrections all the time… they whine for a min and get over it. But the message was sent clearly. I tried all the positive crap and it works for basic commands but they’re already trying to eat my drywall. 1, 2, third time I did a spank on the butt. They’re not touching the drywall now. I stand by what I did. I’ve raised one of the best behaved huskies anyone’s ever seen. Yes a husky. Who is so good she’s rarely on leash.

You said not to buy 40 or 50 dollar collars from Amazon because they are no good. Why? What makes them no good, or what are the differences in one of those and one thats hundreds of dollars? Could you please clarify why.

It’s July 2023. I rescued a dog very similar to this 3 months ago. We have made progress, but this “chaos” you describe still rears its head. I already use an ecollar and have taught things like place. However, watching this makes so much sense. I’ll be giving this a try tomorrow!!!

My dog has the memory of about 2 seconds. She does not know what being social is. But she loves the dog park, so I take her. To be honest, who has control of life all the time. Take your dog anywhere, even if its a dog park.

Thank you! I think your method is eventually going to work. I have a stubborn little Min Pin who is curious about everything (neighbors, workmen, other dogs). We were only on our second attempt and it took us 10 minutes just to get out of the driveway but I do think this will be successful. I will certainly follow your site for any further training tips.

Excellent! I use a similar approach with retrievers. The retriever sits quickly and square with no verbal command from the handler. The dog is thinking a quick sit will trigger the retriever reward: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGWXstKQiMisnsY.html

I don't want to take my dog to the dog park anymore. But I live in the city and there isn't a lot of places where I can let her off the leash and run around. What do you think about private dog parks?

My 6mth old Australian Shepherd is great, comes when called, BUT the only place for him to run free is on the beach in Rio… he can quickly get overwhelmed with smells, birds, bins and people. The problem is there is no safe space… from beach to highway in 15metres. I know if he sees me walking away he will follow. All he needs is an ‘emergency stop and think’. Thanks for the video! His collar training will start today! 😉

the bad behavior of people is anywhere you go, not just the dog owners (and it has gotten worse in recent years, even with video cameras everywhere). Its why I don't go to places with crowds any more. Fortunately there are a lot of places to go that aren't crowded. The problem with owning a dog though now, is a lot of towns Only allow you to take the dog to the dog parks to run free. I use to just bring dogs to ball fields that had fences (that was after they already relieved themselves), but there are signs that post the listed fine for violating the regulations (and some towns the police have zero tolerance, no verbal warning).

I hate dogs and I'm not too keen on their owners except for the rare good ones. Not many of those though. Most are self entitled assholes with giant egos. At least the ones I encounter. Plus, dogs make my blood boil and trigger instant rage. I guess it's the fight or flight response kicking in?

Hello, dog parents! 🐶 Did you know that many dogs tend to have chronic anxiety because they were brought up in an isolated manner? This is especially true for pet parents and animal lovers who are living in apartments and similar residences where socializing with other people and animals can be a bit tricky. If you want to learn more about how to calm an anxious dog, find out here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dWV2tZNvisKwZs4.html So what is your very own strategy when it comes to calming down your dog? Please feel free to leave your input in the comment section so other pet parents can also benefit from them. 👇 I am so excited to hear from you really soon!
