Carrots look fantastic! I don't bother thinning them out until they are ring finger big. We only have space for one of those B&Q plastic 1m cold frames on legs. Filled it with seived compost, sand and the legs with shingle from our veggie area of the garden. We sow two rows of carrots on the outside and a row of spring onions in the middle. Using the cold frame lid we were able to sow them in Jan and have been picking every other carrot. There is only 3 of us and we some other bit from the garden it soon makes up portions for dinner. Been getting some decent size carrots considering it is only a foot deep. Hubby doesn't like celery and said the tops taste like it so i save them up, chopped and frozen for when i make veg stock. Veg scraps are great for veg stock as it adds extra nutrition to meals. I don't add salt when making it as other stuff for the meal might already have it. Plus i use other spices and herbs. I try to be zero food waste so what i don't use in a meal or for stock i put in a tub for our wormery and the rest in the main composter. Yes the weeds in good weather surely love to make their grand entrance! lol Great job clearing up. It is hard work but i bet it feels great afterwards, when you see the results of work. My worse weed has to be sycamore saplings as they are hard to get out than dandelions. Meres/horse tail is just a pain in the ass as they can break easily. Apparently it makes good tea, just like dandelion roots makes a good coffee replacement. Not tried it yet though. Bind weeds and ivy from our next door neighbours are a bit annoying. Think we are overall cut out the ivy now and the bindweed isn't as invasive anymore, same with the meres/horsetail. It takes time though but pays off. Mulching and no dig helps with weeds on the beds. Love the use of the window boxes on the composter pallet. We are just trying our first yellow courgettes too and they are juicy and the skin is much softer. Definitely a keeper for our seed list! Our kid said they look like bananas! lol Flowers look pretty and very kind of Ali to send out seeds. You never know but that cucumber might still send out another leading shoot. Can't believe that it is July already! Must be all that crappy weather we have had. Glad that it has cooled down a bit again so i can get out in the garden and do stuff without melting! Anyway, all looking fab on your plots. Have a great week and take care!
@@AnyKeyLady thank you. I've never made stock, for anything. Only packet mixes for sausage and chicken casserole so I'd like to learn this next. @@billvalsallotments5915 hi. Ahh I hope it's a hit for you. Still nothing touched at home 😃
Morning guys, my radish either bolted or got slugged so I’m going to have to sow more. Shhh 🤫 my carrots 🥕 are doing good. But tomatoes 🍅 are struggling still. @@myrustygarden hi Ali. Yeah two of my beets were starting to bolt but I caught them on time and chopped the tops off. What's up with your Tomatoes then? And I'm leaving the pink basket up 😂😂 a couple of people said they don't need support but it looks fab so 🩷🤣 there it will stay I saw the white radish and might try them next year Hot hot here 🫣 pray for rain 😂 🥕💚
Hi Eric and Rach, the onions normally fold over when they are ready so maybe they needed to be in the ground once they had shooted. We love greyhound cabbage. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.
Lovely video Rach! Those sweet peas look lovely and yes the more you cut the more it grows. Cut the pods off unless you want seed for next year but you don't start to save them just now. Is that green mesh on the green house shade cloth? I looking into getting some poly tunnel plastic and shade cloth. Is there a reason for the high corrugated iron fences? I am also looking to block the end fence of our garden as we have two parallel back fences that backs onto a commercial property and we get rats, foxes and the weeds are terrible. Take care guys and have a great week!
@@AnyKeyLady thanks 🌼🌱 The green mesh is debris netting that was already on when we got the plot. Eric said we might need some for the poly tunnel at home And the corrugated fencing is there as some of those plots house livestock so can't be changed which is fine with us. Enjoy your week and thanks for the comment 😃💚
@@ericandrachallotmenteers It's sweltering here in London today 29c and 30c tomorrow! I might just put some old net curtains over the sugar snap peas tonight just in case. Better than nothing i guess until i can get something. Ah ok yes you don't want the animals getting through and eating your crops. Hope you are staying cool in the heat. Take care.
You have so much growing, considering you were so upset by things not doing earlier in the year, you have gotten so much grown from seed now The sweet peas are lovely. They are so strongly scented. Such a joy. They do set off Duncan’s hay fever though 😂🫣 Thanks for the mention. I’m not sure the dwarf beans will climb it though as mine didn’t climb last year… but they’ll look pretty anyway. That greenhouse is lovely. They a great space to have on the plot. I also love radish ❤
Hi Clare and thanks for watching. I'm still learning so much but making notes where I can of sown, failed or success, when and where etc so hopefully next year I'll be giving away expert advice 🤣 not! And you're welcome. I pictured you howling when I said 'I've no idea what to do with them cos I've got no onions to dry out do it!' 😂 And I'll make these beans climb after I've made that beautiful pink trellis for them! 🩷🤣 And I still don't think we utilise the greenhouses full potential but again, it's a learning curve isn't it 🙂💚 Radish is great! Quick easy and lush to eat... 😋
wow everything is looking great 👍🏾
Thank you 💚🌱
Hi Rach and Eric, great to get jobs done, normally dwarf beans don't need support, I grow Annabel never support them, get a fab crop from these, why don't you sow radishes direct?, they are an easy veg to grow direct, and you will get loads, I sowed parsnips well over a month ago and carrots got no germination so this morning I redone the area and gave them another sow, I have never sowed parsnips in June but I'm thinking if they germinate they will grow quickly, ignored the advice on the packet 😆🤞sweet peas are gorgeous, mine are doing ok not as good as yours tho. its all looking great, Steve
Hey Steve. Oh there's something I didn't know. About the beans. Well I'm not taking the pink basket out now 🤣 it's my fave thing on the plot at the minute 😂🩷 And I have sown some radish direct, I usually always do, but I'll randomly sown stuff at home then a week later it's ready to take down the plot to transplant lol My parsnips are still at home and look fab. Need to find a spot for them though 🤔 And I'm well happy with the sweetpeas. Will they come back yearly or do I have to sow each year? Thanks for the comment, have a lush week 😁🌼😎
I'll be asking you how you're applying that slug deterrent Rach - ordered some! Everything coming along nicely. Your pallet compost bin is so neat - mine are shoved together and all crooked 😂 it'll look lovely with little pot of herbs (maybe nasturtiums? They'll give good coverage).
Haha crooked but unique Kerry, I wouldn't expect anything else from you 😂 And I really hope the no slugs works for you. And I've potted up some seeds today in the new planters. Need to find something to pot in the lower ones as they are in constant shade? 🫣 but that's a question for another day (video) 😂
Hiya Rach nice video love the new compost area all it needs now is turning into some nice compost. Nice to see Sophie working away with you. Hello John and hope you are well. Thank you for the comment and I'm glad you enjoy our videos. We certainly aren't professionals, we just do what we enjoy and share our experiences ❤ Have a fab week, take care 🌱😎💚
You had me saying " Rach they are Beets not Radishes, " then you realised lol. Yeah the tomatoes looked like nutrient deficient, some people get that mixed up with blight, I guess the blue pipes are to water to the bottom and you feed at the top ?. Love the idea of the container gardening around the compost bays. I reckon your onions will pick up now they have been planted outside. I think its gonna get way too hot inside the poly tunnel for your brassicas and cause them to bolt, you will be better off getting them planted out, Or you could fit 12 volt fans ( from scrap yard, old car radiator fans ) into the polytunnel ran off a car battery to add a bit of a breeze, sometimes a window vent and door being open still doesnt get a breeze if there is no wind up. The carrot looks great, I will be happy if mine are like that, the rest will only get bigger as time goes by, i thinned my carrot box out a fortnight ago, i must have thrown about 100 or more onto the compost pile lol. Your peas look really well, i bet they taste lovely, I grew Keveldon Wonder ( they failed miserably ) and Bachelors Bigga Peas, they are doing fantastic and taste delicious. Really enjoyed this video Rach, looking forward to your next one now, Be interesting to find out how your sourdough does for the slugs.
Thanks Jimmy. Yeah the tomatoes still healthy although leaves are still curling etc so apart from feeding and watering like we are I'm not sure what else I can do And yes, we've always used the blue pipes to bottom water, helps with root growth as they go down to find water don't they. Plus it saves those plants that don't like wet leaves Thanks for the comment mate, hope you are well and keeping safe in the sun 😎🌱
you know what that soil looks lovely around your peas id give growing onions a go by seed in that bed when it comes around to sowing again under nets i bet they will do great , all my onion sets went to seed never again for me , everything will boom this week we have some sunshine on the way x

Those peas looked yummy and they made it home! Not just for allotment snacking. Good luck with the next batch of onions. Tomatoes are really growing well. I’ve had some leaf curdling too.
