I'm all for having this, but I don't understand why you can't just use the usb adapter and software emulation. On systems that old the emulation ought to be perfect by now...

2:52 _"...the PC's I/O memory space"_ Am I being too pedantic when I point out that should be, "the PC's I/O _address_ space"? But more seriously, this is brilliant. I have been _so_ missing my good old I/O port and IRQ conflicts on all these new modern machines.

Why are DOS games so much better than modern "3D hyperrealistic gaming of today"? Because DOS games are simply games AND modern "3D hyper-realistic games of today" are not remotely real.

Thank you for the video, you read about expanded video cards in wikis but you hardly ever get the name and models listed. EGA 640x350 kind of bugs me retrospectively because 80x30 ASCII would work using 640x360 instead or 360/30=12 as in a nice clean 8x12 character resolution. Just 10 measly rows short, ah so the monitor spec limit is why we had 350 tall.🤔 Hence why someone would make a 480p compliant EGA card, 80x30 ASCII with the standard 8x16 character. I don't dislike EGA but the whole CGA monitor compatibility failsafe setup meant so few games ever used the full 64-color system palette.☹ Also the default colors were still pretty loud that I think one more generation of Composite Artifact Color output was warranted for the video card standard. That is the rub of higher than standard, you form a hardware and driver island that others have to support or don't heh, plus pairing it with a compatible monitor too. Regardless very cool screen modes by that card.😁

I'm calling it cheating in the era of Minecraft on a TI calculator, BUT not cheating with regards to the actual intent of most cartridge console makers. I found you looking for the classic, "Doom on," journey, 6502 in my case. Still awesome.

Excellent 👍👍 I wish companies that do New games for retro systems like NES and Genesis would think more like you did here , , because I'm tired of MEGAMAN and Castlevania imitation games , , I mean Faceball 2000 did get an NES release so why are homebrew folks stuck in such a limited choice box ???? This is excellent 👍 how about BloodRayne on the NES for next project ????? 🎉❤🏆🏆

It's weird to *nowadays* see the MS-DOS Editor (QB.EXE /EDIT %filename) running on *real, m o d e r n hardware* , let alone DOOM in that configuration! I know, the MoBo isn't the newest (Try that wire-bodging on a Dark Hero! 😁 ), but still! Sir, have a thumb up, have a sub! 🤓

Awesome work. Recently a easier option appeared PCEM17. PC emulator on hardware level. All you need is a powerful CPU. For example a ryzen 3500X will run it good. Performance is excellent and you can emulate a lot of different hardware, especially good is that it supports Voodoo 3dfx hardware. It can even do Windows 98 and supports routing the MIDI to host OS to an MT-32 emulator.

GP2 engine is weird - you specify target fps in the game settings and it's locked at 25,6 fps maximum if I remember correctly. To check how the PC copes with it, you need to press O during gameplay and it will show you CPU Occupancy while button is pressed. If CPU can't handle your graphics settings, it will show over 100% and gameplay will slow down to reach fps target

To avoid this ungainly configuration, how about creating an ISA backplane, with an adapter for the SBC that would sit it in one of the slots, much like the old Zenith 8-bit computers?

Would be cool to see all the Vogons and other similar sites tweaks for windows 95 be applied here, and run a driver updater tool like SGI to see if it can find all the missing drivers. More modern kernels running on 95, and games backported by that one dude

I am very curious if the Danalog DDX 3216 could be reflashed to run a dos variant or os/2 or unix or something.. currently it works with a LCD screen but I noticed its CPU is an AM386 sc 300. or 386 chip which has a cga and xt keyboard. Has a eprom and bios encoderdecoder probably to work the firmware. 16 mb ram 2*8 chips) and 16mb flash memory (I think this is where the actual recallable prorgam information is like the state of the faders, programs fxs settings etc.. ) while I am guessing the ram is used to process between the CPU and the SHARC processor and maybe process thedigitalaudio and midi etc.. not 100% sure. But I am curious if it would be possible to reflash a bios onto the eprom (it is a 512kb eprom) and maybe flash DOS onto the 16mb or something so the system boots into dos. It comes with a PMCIA adapter with a chip I think is normally used for floppydisks but maybe this can also process PMCIA cards not sure - maybe the PMCIA slot can be used as a harddrive of sorts. Anyway this seems above my technical level but curious if there is anything I am missing here, is it just a matter of connecting a cga video card to the CGA pin of the CPU??? I am also wondering if the sharp processor itself can act as a soundcard of sorts.. anyway there is already digital / analog dac stuff goign on on this mixer so it feels like it might be possible any info on issues or if this would be possible are really sought and what steps would need to be done to get a monitor, dos and a keyboard hooked up toe the mixer so that the sharc and processing can be unlocked to run more programs than the supplied mixer stuff like stock DSP fxs and audio routing.
