  If it will make you feel any better, we men on average are not much better than the average woman, however there are super geniuses like Fischer and they happen to be exclusively men. If you look at any competitive sport or video game you will find 90 to 100 percent men at the highest skill levels.

  Bobby changed his mind in the 70's. He was interviewed on a TV show and asked the same question. He said there were some women who were real good in chess and that he believed in equal opportunity.

  For the people saying that he is right: The reason women aren't as good as men in chess is simply for the reason that they don't play as much, people never sign their daughters for chess lessons or enroll them in a chess club, it's always the boys that get to play chess. Women also encounter harassment way more than men in games and that includes chess, so it's less likely that girls who start playing keep playing. You can see proof for the fact that they're worse because they don't have as many players if you look at what countries dominate the chess world and what don't. India with a high population and chess being a popular sport there is starting to dominate the world in chess even though their average iq is only 76, while countries like japan with a low population and chess not being very popular, they have an average iq of 106 yet completely suck at chess, their best male player has almost 400 points less than the womens world champion.

  High level chess is all about memorizing the whole set of moves, in the past they didn't have chess bots or computers. Only high IQ players could dominate because of their superior pattern-recognition ability(like Fischer).

  To date, the highest ever ranked female chess player was ranked 8th in the world, so just 7 men ahead of her. Judit Polgar, and her games are well worth seeing. Although on average men are better, I don't think Fischer was all that close to the mark. He was a bit of an asshole away from the chessboard....

  Well, America did work perfectly fine without females involved in male activities/ male titles. Forced integration was created in 1964. This interview was probably around that time. The media hadn't yet started indoctrinating males with female masculinity i.e. guys and girls are the same..

  @@lionzio_ Polgar became a GM at a younger age than Fischer. Also the youngest player to break the top 100 of all players in ELO. She is in the top 10 of all players. If 20x as many women were seriously interested in chess then we may have a woman world champion today.
