About the double writing of Bonanza… You may not know that because you seem to be an english speaker, but as a bilingual and graphic designer, I can tell you that there is a convention with up/down title writing. You can verify this going to any bilingual french/english library. In English, the title will be written one way and in french the other way. So… I may seem pecky, but I do like to have my collection placed in a way that I can easily read the titles all in the same way (of my choosing). I just wanted to point you out the existence of that writing convention and that ignoring that convention would be ignoring other buyers cultures. Sincerely, Sebastien

My biggest regret was Gloomhaven. I love complex board games but Gloomhaven just didn't feel fun at all for me for some reason. It's too big and fiddly to the point where I'd rather play a computer co-op game with my friends. It was my lesson that complexity doesn't equal a huge box. EDIT: Just to add some optimism to my comment. I did buy a similar game after that named Nemesis, which me and my friends absolutely love. It has similar mechanics as Gloomhaven, but it spares us from all the long-running campaign stuff that never did much for me, except Hero Quest.

I think the point about amount of options each turn is interesting, and I fully agree with it. In my group of friends, we have two brothers who are infamously slow to take their turns. I think you called analysis paralysis, even though I think it's a bit different from that. I think some people are able to plan ahead while other people are doing their turns, but some only start processing when it's their turn. On top of that, and my point I'm trying to make, I have a theory that it wouldn't matter if my friends were met with the simple choice of, "buy the plot or not" or if they had 100 different options. They will always take a roughly same amount of time to make any decision. We're always left waiting for them to make a choice regardless if it's extremely simple or super complex. So in other words, having many options is simply better than having very few.

I also used to sleeve every game, but I've realised some games play better without. I now usually only sleeve games when cards get played with a lot. Matte sleeves really helps when shuffling.

I feel like Planet (one of the games I have), had such good potential with the artwork on the front, but then they put on logos/prizes and an entire side of the box is barcode and boring information and more logos(and just sticks out from the rest of the box)

I have a Kallax and like half my cubes are three games with pretty uniform height/thickness and one game that’s shorter and (usually) fatter that doesn’t fit aesthetically with the other games. Cascadia, TM: Ares Expedition, Modern Art, Hadrian’s Wall, and Viticulture all mess up any uniformity for box height on my shelves. Oh and Blitzkrieg! and Caesar! being in the same line but looking completely different when viewed from the side and even having slightly different heights kills me. Similarly with Wingspan and Wyrmspan not matching when placed side-by-side because SM logo is different size and Wyrmspan’s name/info is lower than Wingspan’s. It would have looked so good if they matched, too. Carcassonne 20th anniversary box is really nice though. As is a lot of the big-box Uwe games but some are so thick and have so many components I can’t store them vertically.

I think I understood everything you said here. My take aways from this video: 1. Only buy the newest games. 2. You need to buy more games whether you like them or not. 3. Buy any and all games that have a theme you like. 4. Sleeve everything, all your cards, hexes, tiles, figures, cubes and meeples...everything! 5. Buy all the games that reviewers like. 6. More fun comes from more content. 7. Never go to conventions. 8. Buy only the most complex games. 9. Try to do everything you can to fill the void of not playing board games. 10. Never hate any game. If you don't like it there is something wrong with you. 😉

I board game in my opinion that has both elements from both modern and old board games is diplomacy. In the game you can get eliminated and friendships can be ruined because of false promisses it is still a lot of fun and not every turn you get supply centres. There is no luck in the game (especially if you pick nations by player choice) and every game is different in terms of play styles, players and nations.

Magic Maze fell into the Steep Learning Curve category. I would play it for 15-20+ minutes with a couple of students at the end of a class. 2-3 weeks later I would get a chance to play it again and it felt like we were restarting again from the early scenarios. I could never get to the advanced scenarios. But I love the concept of it. Great video

There's this french publisher called "Matagot" who used to have these dull gray spines on every game they published. I hate that my copy of Scythe looks like this. They now stopped doing that and instead just put their logo on the spine. It's much better but I'm not gonna buy the same game twice lmao

That was not the first US release of Settlers of Catan. The first and second release was a dark brown box and the tiles used photos instead of artwork. 2nd edition was the same cover, but had 4 different colored player pieces so you could combine two sets and play with up to 8.

Very nice review, but one thing I´m not so sure about: the little games. These games are so tiny that you can display them anyway you want. Don't need to stack them into a big pile. Just display them on a shelf with small space or display them in front of something else, games or books or whatever.
