Called to Peace Ministries -- Joy Forrest

Called to Peace Ministries (CTPM) exists to provide a compassionate, comprehensive, and Christ-centered response to those impacted by domestic abuse. CTPM exists because God calls His children to live in peace. We assist victims of domestic abuse through offering advocacy, support groups, annual retreats, church support, education, and financial assistance.
We offer training, education, and mentorship to ministry leaders, people helpers, and churches as they seek to walk with women impacted by abuse. To learn more about CTPM visit Calledtopeace.org.

Joy Forrest is an advocate, author, biblical counselor, and the founder/executive director of CTPM. Joy is author of Called to Peace: A Survivor’s Guide to Finding Peace & Healing After Domestic Abuse and the Called to Peace Companion Workbook. She has been active in counseling ministry since 2005. Joy is a presenter for both Divorce Care and IBCD’s Counseling Care for Domestic Abuse curriculums.

I'm soo excited about this interview. Was following Remnant Radio long before I ran into ctpm. And became even more appreciative when Michael openly stepped into the abuse advocacy world. It really encouraged me to press on in this direction. The pushback against advocates and people helpers when we talk about abuse can be soo depressing.

I really appreciate the redemptive tone in CTPM. The Lord wishes than non should perish. And to want to protect victims while hoping that abusers will repent and be reconciled to Christ, even if not to the relationship, is a good tension that many don't want to hold. I am hoping to save up to go through your advocate program. Do you have a statement of faith for CTPM?

Why do people who claim they know God throw victims under the bus and in fact add rejection and judgment and blame onto the victim. They don't think it's right to judge the abuser but they judge the victim. They go to restore the abuser and not the victim. Why? i think they misread the bible. I think they misplace love and forgiveness and ignore accountability. They are ignorant of how to discern and of culpability in God's eyes. i think their boundries are whacked. They circumvent the law in the name of love and forgiveness. They usurp the law. The bible declared where the boundary should be. RENDER UNTO CEASAR WHAT IS CEASARS! if the law lets you down then God will deal with it. He has his ways. The Brute will pay. And we should not go soft on evil.

They crush our spirit. I got away and nothing is working out. Just like he said it wouldn't. They speak curses on you and then tell you they love you. They attack your mind and then want you to give yourself to them. It's horrendous but they get away with it.

Thank you, ladies, for pointing out that God does show His love for us when we are suffering by placing certain people in our lives at that time, agents of His love. So beautiful, thank you!

The question shouldn't be can they change, but WILL they change.I have not heard of one single case of wifebeaters who have profoundly changed with the wives' back-up of the man's change from a violent, cruel abuser to warm, lovin'fuzzy huggin'husband.

This a the issue I have with Christianity... God gave Man Free Will. You say He also doesn’t want his children to be hurt... yet many Women are. So why doesn’t this God step in to protect the very creation He made to keep Men company? This ideology is patriarchal... why men believe they own us. And why women fall for this sense of societal, sense of duty. At the cost of theirs, and their children’s lives. More victims God ain’t protecting? This religion is man made, so therefore this God is a victim blamed. Otherwise he would smite down these abusers if He existed.

The problem is that these men still want exalt the first Adam over the second preeminent Adam - Jesus Christ. They are idolaters and want women to worship them as God, the very spirit of antichrist.

Lying and stonewalling deceitfulness are core abuses within all types of abuse. These core behaviors psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually torment and painfully perplex their targets. These behaviors follow what “the father of lies” does. These behaviors are behaviors of Lovelessness and Hatred.

It’s not true that the person with the money wins! I started with an attorney and had an op on my kids father and luckily I did get supervised visits and feel after going back many times to fight for protection of my kids on my own without an attorney I did get pretty fair deal from courts, but it definitely wasn’t easy!! 😢I am glad it’s over ! At least that part! It’s still five damages to my kids emotionally , unfortunately. They are all adults and I can just pray for them and my grandchildren 🙏🏻

Dear i'm afraid you are just confused and are confusing many others, in search of clarity. I do adhere to the complementarian view, because God is a God of order. Christ submit intierely to His Father so to man have to Submit to Christ and the woman to her husband. what is the sens to have a head you do not sumit to. just don;t marry and stay with God, far away from marraige tribulations. People we marry are broken just like us, that's not an escuse to those monsters fake christians. But marriage is not for the immatures. the examples you have chosen are not adequate sister. The command is not to murder and David didn't murder goliath for personnal purpose, it was WAR and that's not murder. and the example of Rahab is not to be take to justified sin, because our God is not the God of lies. Rahab context was for her.We can just take that like an escuse and start to lie for escape pains. For me; the botton line is that no one has to expose her/his life when there are in danger of any kind, because emotionnal abuse can lead to so many physical sicknesses, physical abuse can lead to death. so no, no one has to live in fear, it's not the will of God. BUT divorce for all in not a unique answer to crisis, because i have see people repentance and change of heart by God's grace. It's possible for God. May God help us; his children when we choose a partner for life. May we seek His counsels and Will for us. May we trust Him in the storms of life, we change or others change. there is hope in Him. Stay blessed!
